    2. From the Oak Ridger 28 Feb 2005 Paul Eugene Bostic, 79, of Clinton, Reafus Sidney Bunch, 75, a resident of the Stevens community in Morgan County James T. Nail Jr., 83, of Oak Ridge, Wilma Harber, 77, of Clinton, Hubert Cantrell, 78, of Clinton, Florence Penland, 85, of Oak Ridge, Paul Eugene Bostic, 79, of Clinton, died Thursday, Feb. 24, 2005. After graduating from high school, Mr. Bostic served as a torpedo gunner on the U.S. Navy plane, Avenger, in the Pacific theater during World War II. He subsequently earned degrees from Union College in Barbourville, Ky., and the University of Tennessee, and went on to serve public schools as a history teacher, a principal, and a superintendent. The recently completed sports complex at Anderson County High School was named for him. After his retirement as superintendent of Anderson County schools, he remained an avid supporter of both the academic and the sports programs of the school system. He also was a loyal supporter of UT sports programs, especially football and basketball. Paul Bostic was a man of deep convictions and courage. Against bitter opposition, but also with the support of other compassionate and progressive persons, he initiated and sponsored the first integrated Little League baseball team in Tennessee in the 1950s. After retiring, he worked tirelessly for several years compiling and publishing a genealogy of both his family and his wife's family, with whom he had an exceptionally close relationship. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Clinton. He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard Roscoe and Stella Bruce Bostic; his stepmother, Naomi Bostic; and his brothers, Ralph and Earl Bostic. Mr. Bostic is survived by his devoted wife of 58 years, Bertie Jenkins Bostic; his son, Paul Eugene "Jenks" Bostic Jr. and wife, Dudley, of Andersonville; his daughters, Jo Ellen Bostic of Norris, and Dr. Cheryl Scarboro of Augusta, Ga.; his grandsons, Cristofer Scarboro and wife, Jill, of Urbana, Ill., Sean Paul Scarboro and wife, Olena, of Augusta, and Brandon Emert of Norris; his granddaughters, Jenky Walker and husband, Daniel, of Knoxville, Mollie Farrar and husband, Zack, of Beaufort, S.C., and Katherine Emert of Norris; his great-granddaughter, Raleigh Jack Walker. He is also survived by his brother, Poe Bostic and wife, Anna Faye, of LaFollette; his sisters, Helen Slater of Athens, Ohio, and Martha Bostic Dossett of LaFollette; and his sisters-in-law, Melba Jenkins Greer of Clinton, Ruby Bostic of Ohio, and Chris Bostic of Corbin, Ky. The funeral was held at 5 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 26, 2005, at First Baptist Church in Clinton with the Rev. Sam Dean officiating. Burial was at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 27, at Oak Ridge Memorial Park. Pallbearers were Mr. Bostic's grandsons, Cris and Sean Scarboro, and Brandon Emert, and grandsons-in-law, Daniel Walker and Capt. Zack Farrar, U.S. Marine Corps. Honorary pallbearers were James "Jiggs" Seivers, John H. Price, Dr. Curtis Sexton, Hugo Hughes, Steve Brody and Howard Henegar. Reafus Sidney Bunch, 75, a resident of the Stevens community in Morgan County, died Sunday, Feb. 27, 2005, at the University of Tennessee Medical Center at Knoxville. Born on Feb. 17, 1930, in Devonia, he was the son of Laura Bunch of Coalfield and Walter Bunch, now deceased. He lived in Detroit, Mich., for eight years, and St. Louis, Mo., for 27 years before moving back to Tennessee. Mr. Bunch was a retired auto worker and worked at both the Chrysler Automobile Plants in Detroit and St. Louis for a total of 35 years. He held various positions with Chrysler through the years, retiring as an inspector. Mr. Bunch most recently reaffirmed his faith in God and shared his salvation with family members. He was an accomplished musician. His favorite instrument was the banjo, which he spent many hours playing. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a brother, Norman Bunch, and his mother-in-law, Hazel Carroll. Mr. Bunch is survived by his wife, Omer Carroll Bunch of the Stevens community; his son, Scott Bunch and wife, Christy, of Winchester; his daughter, Regina Foster and husband, Mark, of Wartburg; and four grandchildren, Shawn Seiber, Jared Foster, Brandon Seiber, and Samuel Ross Bunch. He is also survived by two brothers, Cledyth Bunch and wife, Nicey, of Devonia, and Carlos Bunch and wife, Peggy, of Kingston; five sisters, Effie Ward and Ester Byrge, both of Oliver Springs, Stella Kennedy of Lake City, Margaret Leach and husband, Don, of Oak Ridge, and Freda Bunch and husband, Castle, of Coalfield; his father-in-law, Sammie Carroll of Devonia; brothers-in-law, Dolphus Carroll and wife, Sue, of Wartburg, Willie Carroll and wife, Freida, of Devonia, the Rev. Houston Carroll and wife, Joyce, of Dutch Valley, and Herbie Carroll and wife, Teresa, of Devonia; and by many nieces and nephews, special friends and extended family members. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 2, 2005, at Shiloh Baptist Church in Devonia with the Rev. Lee Phillips and the Rev. Houston Carroll officiating. Burial and graveside services will follow at the Phillips Cemetery in Devonia. The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, March 1, 2005, at Sharp Funeral Home in Oliver Springs. James T. Nail Jr., 83, of Oak Ridge, died Saturday, Feb. 26, 2005, at his residence. Mr. Nail was born on April 7, 1921, in Eclectic, Ala., to James T. and Rilla Dennis Nail. A resident of Oak Ridge since 1950, he was a member of the First United Methodist Church. He enjoyed working on cars and gardening. He and his late wife, Irene B. Nail, who died April 2, 2004, also enjoyed traveling together. Mr. Nail was a machinist at the Oak Ridge Gaseous Diffusion Plant, K-25, until his retirement in 1982. Mr. Nail is survived by three daughters, Linda Butler and husband, Roger, of Nashville, Susan Saunders and husband, Barry, of Oak Ridge, and Marie Dahmus and husband, Anthony, of Chattanooga; six grandchildren, Jackie Hudson of Beverly Hills, Calif., Steve Hudson and wife, Angie, of Atlanta, Ga., Jennifer Hudson of Nashville, Stephanie Dahmus of Brentwood, and Alicia Heidmann and husband, John, of Knoxville; and three great-grandchildren, J.C. McDearmon, Elijah McDearmon and Mark McDearmon. He is also survived by his four sisters, Julie Powell and husband, Jerry, Charlotte Jordan, Jerry Powell, and Jonny McCune; his brother-in-law, Joe C. Brewer and wife, Betty, of Farriday, La.; and his sister-in-law, Aliene Coker and husband, Ray, of Folson, Calif. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 1, 2005, in the chapel of Martin Oak Ridge Funeral Home with the Rev. Bob Cantrell officiating. Burial will follow in Anderson Memorial Gardens, Oliver Springs Highway. The family will receive friends from noon until 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
