    2. From The Knoxville News Sentinel 26 Feb 2005 BOSTIC, PAUL EUGENE - age 79, JONES, BESSIE (GOIN) - of Andersonville, LYON, WILLIAM SOUTHERN JR. (BILL) - age 83 of Farragut MAGILL, MARJORIE CABBAGE - age 84 of Knoxville BOSTIC, PAUL EUGENE - age 79, passed away Thursday, February 24, 2005. After graduating from high school, he served as a torpedo gunner on the Navy plane, Avenger in the Pacific area during World War II. After receiving degrees from Union College, Barbourville, KY, and the University of Tennessee, he served in public schools as a history teacher, a principal, and a superintendent. The recently completed sports complex of Anderson County High School was named for him. After his retirement as superintendent of Anderson County Schools, he remained an avid supporter of both the academic and the sports programs of the school system. He also was a loyal supporter of UT sports programs, especially football and basketball. Paul Bostic was a man of deep convictions and courage. Against bitter opposition, but also with the support of other compassionate and progressive persons, in the 1950's he initiated, sponsored, and the first integrated Little League Baseball Team in Tennessee. After retiring, he worked tirelessly for several years compiling and publishing a genealogy of both his family and his wife's family, with whom he had an exceptionally close relationship. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Clinton. He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard Roscoe and Stella Bruce Bostic; step-mother, Naomi Bostic; and brothers, Ralph and Earl Bostic. He is survived by his devoted wife of 58 years, Bertie Jenkins Bostic; son, Paul Eugene "Jenks" Bostic, Jr. & wife Dudley of Andersonville; daughters, Jo Ellen Bostic of Norris, Dr. Cheryl Scarboro of Augusta, GA; grandsons, Cristofer Scarboro & wife Jill of Urbana, IL, Sean Paul Scarboro & wife Olena of Augusta, GA, Brandon Emert of Norris; granddaughters, Jenky Walker& husband Daniel of Knoxville, Mollie Farrar & husband Zach of Beaufort, SC, Katherine Emert of Norris; great granddaughter, Raleigh Jack Walker; brother, Poe Bostic & wife Anna Faye of LaFollette; sisters, Helen Slater of Athens, OH, Martha Bostic Dossett of LaFollette; sisters-in- law, Melba Jenkins Greer of Clinton, Ruby Bostic of Ohio, Chris Bostic of Corbin, KY. The family will receive friends 3:00-5:00 PM, Saturday, February 26, 2005 at Clinton First Baptist Church. The funeral service will follow his visitation with Rev. Sam Dean officiating. His burial will be 2:00 PM, Sunday at Oak Ridge Memorial Park. JONES, BESSIE (GOIN) - of Andersonville, born May 3, 1925, passed away 3:10 p.m., Friday, February 25, 2005, at her home with family and friends at her side. Preceded in death by: husband, Claude Jones; mother and father George and Parlie Goin; brothers, Leonard, Pat and Junior Goin; sister, Bertha Hickle. She was a member of Ailor Dale Baptist Church. Survived by: daughter and son in law, Claudine and Oral Wynn; son and daughter in law, Jerry and Debbie Jones; son, Jimmy Jones; grandchildren, Katrina Lawson, Elizabeth and Chris Johnson, Jack Ricker, Justin Ricker, and Sarah Jones; great grandchildren, James and Kaitlyn Lawson, Trinity Johnson; brothers, Rev. John Goin and Harvey Goin; sisters, Thelma Mallicoat, Emma Dyer; several nieces, nephews, and loving friends. Family will receive friends Saturday 6 to 8, Cooke Mortuary Chapel. (BILL) - age 83 of Farragut died Friday morning, February 25, 2005. Bill was born in Pulaski, VA. He graduated from the University of Virginia and joined the Manhattan Project in 1944. After a year at Hanford WA, he returned to Oak Ridge and from 1947 to 1985 he was a radiochemist at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. He published a number of papers, gathered several awards, authored, co-authored and edited a number of technical books, was on the board of a number of technical journals and wrote a column for one of them. An avid reader, a poor golfer and an average tennis player, he enjoyed both sports and intellectual activities. Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Carey Greer Lyon. Survivors include his son, William S. Lyon III and wife Robin of Farragut; daughter, Victoria Lyon Tolley and husband Dr. Vincent Tolley of Sevierville; grandchildren, Amanda and Adam Lyon, Josh, Laurie and Katie Tolley; sister, Jane Lyon Alderman and husband Ernest Alderman of Sarasota, FL; 3 very caring sisters-in-law, Mary Alice Greer Nichols of Oakfield, TN, Carolyn Greer Bond of Denmark, TN and Anne Greer Carter of Chattanooga, TN. A service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at St. Elizabeth's Episcopal Church with The Rev. Matthew Dutton-Gillett officiating. Interment will be in the Pleasant Forest Cemetery. Marjorie was a member of First Baptist Church Concord. She was a graduate of Knoxville Business College. Marjorie was retired from Union Carbide K-25. She enjoyed traveling and gardening. Marjorie was a loving aunt and a wonderful mother to her nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles Russell Cabbage and Pearl Janeway Cabbage; brothers Gilbert Lee Cabbage, Victor C. Cabbage, and P. Luke Cabbage. Survivors: brother, Mark Eugene Cabbage and wife, Millie of Aiken, SC; nieces, Brenda Cabbage Hayes of Powder Springs, GA, Phyllis Cabbage Freshour and husband, Sam of Knoxville, Cynthia Abbasttista of North Arlington, NJ; nephew, Gary Douglas Cabbage and wife, Marsha of South Carolina; great nieces and nephews, Brenda Ann Hayes Edmonds, Jimmy Ray Hayes, Janet Renee Hayes Moss, Samuel Adam Freshour, Judy Renee Freshour, Anthony, Mark and Michael Abbasttista.
