    2. >From The Oak Ridger 16 Oct 2007 Myrtis Jena Canaday, 88, of Knoxville, Tenn., Bob Cantrel Margaret Ann Phillips Edwards, age 67, a resident of St. Petersburg, Florida, Steve Allen Goodman, Myrtis Jena Canaday, 88, of Knoxville, Tenn., died Monday, Oct. 15, 2007, at Fort Sanders Parkwest Medical Center. She was born April 23, 1919, in Magnolia, Ark., the daughter of Walker and Nellie Kate Williams Barnett. Mrs. Canaday was preceded in death by her husband, Reedes Canaday, and a daughter, Barbara Rogers. She is survived by son, George Canaday and his wife, Lillie, of Knoxville; sisters, Elizabeth Taylor of Clinton and Doris Barnard and husband, Dewey, of Oak Ridge; and by three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, Oct. 18, 2007, at Brevard Memorial Park in Cocoa, Fla. with arrangements handled by Brevard Memorial Funeral Home. Bob Cantrell was born to Webb and Martha Fite Cantrell on Feb. 11, 1914, in Alexandria, Tennessee. After graduating from high school, he served in the Civilian Conservation Corps. While working at the Corps' Smokemont Camp in Western North Carolina, he met Kathryn McLain. They were married July 29, 1938, in Waynesville, North Carolina. Bob came to work in Oak Ridge in 1943. During his career at the Y-12 plant, he worked in the Personnel Department and later served as director of the employee recreation leagues. He completed his Y-12 career as a retirement counselor and retired in 1979. Bob was a leader in the local Red Cross and an active member of First United Methodist Church, Oak Ridge, where he served on the Finance Committee and Administrative Board and as a teacher in the Genesian Sunday School Class. Throughout his life, he delighted in his family, in attending Oak Ridge High School athletic events, in watching sports, especially the World Series on TV, and in reading political and athletic biographies. He was a "people person" who enjoyed regaling others with stories about his life and family, the church, pastors, and church staff whom he loved, and politics. He had a gift for relating to children and youth because he was a child at heart himself. To his wife, Kathryn, he was "Hoot." To his children, he was "Dad." When grandchildren arrived, he became "Pop." he was preceded in death by his parents and by his wife, Kathryn. His survivors are his daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Jim Underwood, of Oak Ridge; his son and daughter-in law, the Rev. Dr. Robert T. "Bob" Cantrell Jr. and Marie Cantrell, of Knoxville; and his grandchildren, Doug Underwood of Bountiful, Utah, Mike Underwood of Huntsville, Alabama, Sarah Cantrell of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, and the Rev. Wil Cantrell and his wife, Rebecca Cantrell, of Knoxville. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 18, at First United Methodist Church, Oak Ridge. The funeral will follow at 4 p.m. in the church sanctuary with the Rev. William C. Mooney and the Rev. Dr. Stella Roberts officiating. The family will also receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. after the funeral. A burial service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 19, at Oak Ridge Memorial Gardens. Margaret Ann Phillips Edwards, age 67, a resident of St. Petersburg, Florida, passed away at 7:05 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 14, 2007, at Parkwest Medical Center in Knoxville surrounded by her immediate family. Mrs. Edwards succumbed to multiple myeloma after being diagnosed in October 2005. She was born and raised in Devonia, the New River area of Anderson County. She retired in September 2005 from a nursing career after 31 years of service. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Edwards; her parents, Burley Allen and Lina Mae Phillips; her brothers, Alvin Ray, Billy Allen and Ted Edward Phillips; and her sisters, Inez Worley and Helen Faye Lemmon. Mrs. Edwards is survived by her sisters, Mrs. Ervin (Bernice) Patterson of LaFollette, and Ruby Phillips of Lake City; her brothers; Virgil Eugene Phillips and wife, Linda, of Oliver Springs, Burley V. Phillips and wife, Lisa, of Lenoir City; her son, Michael Phillips and companion, John Gronley; and her grandson, Eric William Gronley (Willy) of Mt. Hamilton, California. She is also survived by aunts, Mrs. Elmer (Louise) Arms of Knoxville, Mrs. Mack (Lilly) Phillips of Clinton; and by 30 nieces and nephews, 34 grandnieces and grandnephews, and 5 great-grandnieces and -grandnephews. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2007, at Sharp Funeral Home. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 18, 2007, in the chapel of Sharp Funeral Home with the Rev. Don Daugherty and the Rev. Terry Braden officiating. An online register book is available at www.sharpfh.com Steve Allen Goodman, loving husband, father and grandfather, age 61, a resident of Oak Ridge, died Monday, Oct. 15, 2007, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge, Tennessee. Steve was born Oct. 20, 1945, in Leinarts, Tennessee, to Grover and Sammie Mildred Hoskins Goodman. In addition to his parents, he was preceded by a sister, Pat Goodman. Mr. Goodman is survived by his wife of 43 years, Margaret Huff Goodman; a son, Tony Goodman and his wife, Missy, of Brandon, Mississippi; and a daughter, Anessa Osborne and her husband, Darrell, of Calera, Alabama; his granddaughters, Jaime and Sydney Goodman of Brandon, Mississippi, and by his grandsons Scott Goodman of Brandon, Mississippi, and Cameron Osborn of Calera, Alabama. He is also survived by three brothers, Roger Goodman and Larry Goodman, both of Oliver Springs, and Danny Goodman of Clinton; a sister, Shirley Goodman of Clinton; a niece, Melanie Hasse of Santa Rosa Beach, Florida; a nephew, Charles T. "Chuck" Johnson Jr. of Whites Creek, Tennessee; and by a sister-in-law, Patricia Anne "Patsy" Johnson and husband, Charles T. "Tommy" Johnson Sr., of Joelton, Tennessee. Mr. Goodman was a machinist/toolmaker by trade and he worked at Rexnord Industries in Clinton for 31 years. He loved bass fishing with family and friends. He also coached football at the Boys Club of Oak Ridge in the mid-1970s and received the Charles Harklerod Coach of the Year award in 1977. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2007, at Sharp Funeral Home in Oliver Springs. The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2007, at Batley Baptist Church with the Rev. Luke Kidwell and the Rev. Archie Nelson officiating.
