Clinton Courier July 17, 1986 Phillips, Ex-Miner, Dies At 70 A retired coal miner, Robert Phillips, 70, of Lake City Rt.2, died of lung cancer Sunday at Methodist Medical Center. Phillips was born in Caryville. He retired in 1963 and had lived in Lake City the past 20 years. Phillips was a member of the United Mine Workers of America and enjoyed gardening and working outside. A Baptist, Phillips and his wife,Dessie Byrge Phillips, had been married 51 years. In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, Elmer Phillips of Clinton, Lester Phillips of Zephyr Hills, Fla.,and Coy Phillips of Briceville, two daughters, Mrs. Stella Cass and Mrs. Louise Neal, both of Lake City, 13 grandchildren, one great-grandchild and two brothers, Eather Daughtery of Corryton and Byrd Daughtery of Caryville.
