Clinton Courier Sept.21, 1972 Mack Phillips Retired Miner, Dies Friday Mack Phillips, 57, a retired motorman for Consolidated Coal Co. of Devonia in the New River section of Anderson County, died at 2 p.m. Friday morning at his home. He lived on Airport Rd. in the Norwood community of Oliver Springs. Phillips had been ill for several years and had retired in March of 1970. He suffered from a lung ailment. When he was able, he enjoyed fishing as a pastime. Services were at 2 p.m. Sunday at Batley Baptist Church of which, he was a member. The Rev. Howard Robbins officiated and burial was in Anderson Memorial Gardens. He leaves his wife, the former, Lillie Mae Daugherty, two sons, Clifford Ray Phillips of Knoxville and Vernon S. Phillips of Oliver Springs, three sisters, Mrs. Burley Phillips and Mrs. Lucy Goad both of Oliver Springs, and Mrs. Morgan Cook of Soddy, four brothers, Walter and Carlie Phillips both of Cleveland, O., Barney Phillips of Columbus, O., and Ed Phillips of Virginia, mother, Mrs. Mary Phillips of Oliver Springs and four grandchildren.
