She was born Oct 24, 1919 in Andersonville, the daughter of McKinley Braden Sr and Ora Disney Braden. She was a graduate of Lake City High School and had lived in Oak Ridge since 1943. Mrs Kendig retired from the Oak Ridge Hospital where she was a licensed practical nurse. She was a member of Central Baptist Church and had worked in the Caring Center of the church. Mrs Kendig sang with the Sweet Adelines group and she also enjoyed cooking, sewing, flowers and gardening. She was the widow of Avery Franklin Kendig Sr, who died Aug. 24, 1987. Mrs Kendig is survived by three daughters; Annette Piper and her husband, Charlie, of Concord, NC, Barbara Young and her husband, Larry, of Oak Ridge and Brenda Pickens and her husband, Earle, of Gainesville, FL; her son, Franklin Kendig and his wife, Judy, of Honolulu, Hawaii; one brother, McKinley Braden Jr and his wife. Mildred, of Knoxville; and two sisters, Audrey Livingston and her husband, Bob, of Powell and Jeanette Dake and her husband, Don, of Nashville. She is also survived by six grandchildren; Julie Poole of King, NC, Karen Pearson of Concord, NC, Leigh Monger of Oak Ridge, Keith Young of Knoxville and David Pickens and Dr Brian Pickens, both of Gainesville; seven great-grandchildren, Brian Poole and Taylor Poole, both of King, Katie Pearson, Kelsey Pearson and Kristen Pearson, all of Concord, and Steven Monger and Merritt Monger, both of Oak Ridge; and numerous nieces and nephews, to whom she was known as "Aunt Violet."
