Robert William (Bob)7 Slover (Samuel M6, Aaron5, Aaron4, Abraham3, Jacob2, Abraham1) was born September 09, 1888 in TN, and died January 31, 1960 in Lake City, Anderson Co, TN. He married Martha A Dunkin June 19, 1909 in Anderson Co, TN, daughter of Zachariah Dunkin and Mary Gaylor. Notes for Robert William (Bob) Slover: Clinton Courier - Feb 4, 1960 A Marine Corps hero of World War I, Robert Slover, 71, died early Sunday morning at his home in Lake City. Mr Slover was a retired coal miner, a former police officer, and a member of the American Legion and the VFW. He was the holder of the Distinguished Service Cross, the nation's second highest military honor, and other medals. Mr Slover was a sergeant in Company B, Fifth Regiment, US Marine Corps, during World War I. He received the DSC for exceptional heroism and conspicuous services above and beyond the call of duty in France in 1918. Among his medals was one from Marshall Foch, Commander In Chief of Allied armies. Mr Slover was a cousin of the late Colonel S L Slover of Norfork, VA, prominent newspaper publisher and former Anderson Countain. He was buried with military honors Tuesday morning at the Oak Grove Cemetery. Funeral services were held at Martin Chapel in Lake City with the Rev M W Bodlien officiating. Mr Slover is survived by his wife; Mrs Martha Duncan Slover; three daughters, Mrs Ernest Martin, Miss Winnie Mae Slover, and Mrs Joe Day, all of Lake City; one son, Robert D Slover of Knoxville; five grandchildren; three brothers, Horace and Pleas Slover of Lake City, Leonard Slover of LaFollette; two sisters, Mrs Midia Miller of Lafollette and Bertha Foust of Lake City. Notes for Winnie Mae Slover: Winnie Mae Slover, age 80, of Lake City, passed away Sunday, Jan 28, 2001 at her residence. She was born Nov 17, 1920 in Anderson County. She was a life long resident of Lake City. Winnie Mae was a member of First Baptist Church of Lake City. She was a telephone operator for several years for Southern Bell in Lake City. She is preceded in death by parents; Robert and Martha Duncan Slover; sister, Marjorie Slover Day; brother, Robert D Slover. Survivors; sister, Joan (Jody) Martin of Lake City; nephew and niece and family; Gary and Gail Day of Lake City; several other nieces, nephews, and many friends. Notes for Marjorie H Slover: DAY, MARJORIE H - age 77 of Lake City, TN, passed away Oct 9, 1999 at St Mary's Hospital in Knoxville, TN. She was born May 9, 1922 in Anderson Co, TN. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Lake City. Marjorie and her husband, the late Joe E Day were the owners and publishers of the Town Crier Newspaper for many years. She was a member of the AARP, the Keen Club, and a former member of the Tennessee Press Association. Marjorie loved spending time with her grandchildren, whom she loved very much. She is preceded in death by her parents; Robert and Martha Slover; brother, Bobby Slover; and her husband, Joe E Day.
