James Robert Weir Jr., age 74, of Knoxville, J.C. Daugherty, age 68, a resident of Oliver Springs, died Saturday, July 14, 2007, at his home. Mr. Daugherty was born March 6, 1939, in the Devonia community of Anderson County. Following the death of his father, the family moved to Oliver Springs in 1952. J.C. retired after working 30 years in construction as a pipe fitter and welder for TVA He was a member of Oliver Springs First Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hooper Daugherty and Dola Lowe Daugherty; and by two brothers, Lowell and Truman Daugherty. Survivors include his wife, Doris Sweeten Daugherty of Oliver Springs; sons, David Alan Daugherty and wife, Helen, of Kennesaw, Ga., and Larry Dean Daugherty and wife, Cindy, of Mont Vale, Va.; grandchildren, Adam and fianc e, Rachell Henley, and her son Chase, and Ashley, Whitney, Patrick, Chelsea, and Cheyenne Daugherty; brothers, Paul Daugherty and wife, Barbara, of Roanoke, Va., Louie Daugherty and wife, Gail, of Roanoke, Va., David Daugherty and wife, Celest, of Arizonia, and Glen Daugherty and wife, Evelyn, of Kingston; sisters, Betty Lawson and husband, Roger, of Kingston, and Linda Hyatt of Kingston; sister-in-law, Janice Daugherty of Harriman; special friends, Margaret Nelson of Oliver Springs and James Bradley of Clinton. The family will receive friends Monday, July 16, 2007, between the hours of 6 and 8 p.m. at Sharp Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow in the funeral home chapel at 8 p.m. with Pastor Robert Combs and the Rev. Barry Ariaz officiating. Mr. James Johnson Jr. was born to the late Mr. James Johnson Sr. and Mrs. Lillie Mae Johnson on Oct. 8, 1923, in Cherry, Tenn. Mr. Johnson served in the U.S. Army during World War II and in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. On Thursday, July 12, 2007, God called him home with his loved ones around his bed. He leaves to mourn his passing and to cherish his memory: wife, Mrs. Ernestine Johnson; son, Albert Johnson and wife, Tia, of Oak Ridge; daughters, Ernestine Johnson of Knoxville, Catherine Gipson and husband Pierre, and Carnell Henderson and husband Edward, all of Oak Ridge; sisters-in-law, Viola Oliver of Oak Ridge and Buela Johnson of Battle Creek, Mich.; brothers-in-law, James Oliver of Battle Creek, Mich., and James Beasley of Florida; grandchildren, Eboney Anderson, Marlo Anderson and wife Jeanette, Shalonda Anderson, Tarika Anderson, Janicia Henderson and Arshawn Henderson; a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; special friends, Mary Dixon, his caretaker, Una Jackson and Tyrone Holmes. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 17, 2007, at 7 p.m. at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church with Elder T. L. Mims officiating. Graveside services will be held on Thursday, July 19, 2007, at 1:30 p.m. at the Tennessee Veterans Cemetery in Knoxville with full military honors provided by the Volunteer State War Era Honor Guard. Gary Dean Steward, age 57, a resident of Fall Branch, Tenn., died Thursday, July 12, 2007, at his home. Mr. Steward was born Feb. 28, 1950, in Leeds, Ala., and moved to Oak Ridge at the age of 3. He had lived in Fall Branch for the past 22 years. Gary retired from Aerojet Ordinances of Tennessee, Inc., in 2004 as a master machinist after working for the company for 20 years. He previously worked for 13 years at the Y-12 Plant in Oak Ridge. He was a member of the Beechfork Holiness Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Samuel Steward and Louise Limbaugh Steward; and by his father-in-law, James Hollows. Survivors include his wife of 22 years, Connie Hollows Steward of Fall Branch, Tenn.; daughter, Jennifer Steward of California; granddaughter, Keilah Snow of California; sisters, Pat Tripp and husband, Bill, of Oliver Springs, Sarah Lawson and husband, Richard, of Oliver Springs, Sharon Eason and husband, Tom, of Oliver Springs, and Janice Eason and husband, Mike, of Salisbury, N.C.; brothers, Edward Steward and wife, Maricia, of Clinton, John Steward of Oliver Springs and friend, Naomi Williams of Halls, and Ron Steward and wife, Terry, of Oak Ridge; mother-in-law, Betty Hollows of Crossville; aunt, Remell Harris and husband, Daniel, of Oliver Springs. He is also survived by 33 nieces and nephews, several cousins and extended family members. The family received friends Sunday, July 15, 2007, between the hours of 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. at Sharp Funeral Home. Funeral services followed in the funeral home chapel at 1 p.m. with the Rev. An online register book is available at www.sharpfh.com. James Robert Weir Jr., age 74, of Knoxville, passed away Monday, June 11, 2007, at Baptist Hospital West. He was born Dec. 29, 1932, in Middletown, Ohio, the son of James Robert Weir Sr. and Kathleen Lawson Weir. He is survived by five sons: James Robert III, David Jeffrey, Joseph Todd, Patrick Allen and Scott Anthony, who love and miss him. He is also survived by two sisters, Judy Weir Goode and Kathy Weir Dickey. Mr. Weir worked at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory for 39 years until his retirement in 1994. The last 20 years, he served as associate director and director of the Metals and Ceramics Division. During his tenure, he was the recipient of the E.O. Lawrence Award. He earned his bachelor's degree in 1955 in metallurgical engineering from the University of Cincinnati and his master's degree from the University of Tennessee in 1962. Mr. Weir was an avid sailor for more than 40 years. He was a member and past commodore of the Concord Yacht Club and successfully competed in numerous regattas in many classes of boats throughout the Southeast region. He was also instrumental in the early development of the sailing education programs at the club. Mr. Weir enjoyed acting with the Oak Ridge Playhouse and he was an avid singer with barbershop quartets in younger years. In keeping with Mr. Weir's wishes, his body was cremated. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 21, 2007, at 6 p.m. at Weatherford Mortuary.
