Can you just visualize a Christmas of years ago by an ancestor? I bet the homes smelled of fresh baked breads and pies...and the smell of fresh pine from a tree that was cut down from an ancestor's farm. Maybe popcorn was strung by the children sitting by the fire laughing and wondering what cherished gift they would recieve. I don't remember us having a tree until we came to Ohio. But I do remember when I was about 6, in 1947, my GRANNY DELK came over from Fentress Co to Anderson Co to spend Christmas with us. We had lots of candies, apples, bananas and oranges and all kinds of nuts. I thought I was in Heaven with all those goodies. I never had seen so much. I remember sitting by the grate trying to crack a Brazil nut. It took me forever but it was so good. Daddy had also bought a coconut and we sipped the milk from it. I musta knawed on the meat for days. To my surprise the next morning Santa brought me tricycle and a Betsy Wetsy doll....
