Member of Clinch River Baptist Church, Lake City. Lewis was a former employee of Bivens Body shop & preceded in death by son, Lewis Jones, Jr.; parents, Conda & Katherine Wright Jones; brother, Johnny Jones. Survivors: daughter, Angela D. Hall; grandchildren, James L. Jones, Sherrie Harrell, William E. Jones & Constance Jones all of Shelbyville, Tenn.; 2 great granddaughters due in February; brother, Luster Jones of Clinton; sisters, Bonnie Doran of Conn. & Mildred Shubert of Athens; 8 nieces & nephews. OVERTON, ANNA BRADEN - age 89, of Berwyn formerly of LaFollette, passed away Wednesday, January 19, 2005 at Victorian Manor Nursing Home in LaGrange, Illinois. She was the beloved wife of the late Alfred Hinson Overton. She was born in Blue Diamond, Kentucky the daughter of J.L. (James Levi) Branden and Maud (Nee Phillips). She is the dear mother of Betty (Robert) Ramirez. The grandmother of Melissa Hattula and Fond sister of Annette Braden Mora. She was loved my many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends 1:00-2:00 PM, Sunday, January 23, 2005 at Deep Springs Baptist Church. The burial will follow at Overton Cemetery. Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton is in charge of all arrangements. EBEL, ROBERT ARTHUR - 86 of Oak Ridge, died Friday, September 21, 2005 at the Methodist Medical Center. He was born September 19, 1918 in Minneapolis, Minnesota; his parents were Anne Bachland Ebel and Arthur August Ebel. He was born at home, and his twin sister, Shirley Anne was born next at the Swedish Hospital. He had a wonderful mother, a wonderful father, and two magnificent sisters, Dee and Shirley Anne, who was his constant companion in his formative years. As a boy he was a good student, and playing football and swimming were his extracurricular activities. In 1936 he was the breaststroke champion of all eight Minneapolis high schools. He attended the University of Minnesota and earned a Bachelor degree in Chemical Engineering. December 27,1940 he married Dorothy Mary Ballance. She was his one and only, the true love of his life. On February, 5,1941 he went on active duty as a Second Lieutenant in the Coast Artillery. During the defensive phase of WWII he served in Alaska. Later, in the offensive phase of the war, he became a combat engineer and served on Okinawa. He was discharged from the service March 15,1946 with the Rank of Captain. He returned to the University of Minnesota to refresh his chemical engineering skills pursuing a Masters degree. His thesis was titled "Diffusion Rates in Porous Solids" and was judged to be of doctorate quality. As a result he was awarded a Ph D with a major in Chemical Engineering and a minor in Mathematics in 1949. He also became an Emeritus Member of Sigma Xi, the Scientific Research Society. He came to Oak Ridge in October 1949 and went to work for the Gaseous Diffusion Plant in the Operations Analysis Division. It was the start of the Old War with the Soviet Union. In the arms race that followed, the Diffusion plants were enlarged until they consumed ten percent of the total power being generated in the United States. His interest was improving the thermodynamic and fluid dynamic efficiency of every stage. By so doing, the overall unit productivity was increased threefold compared to the original K25 plant. His family life centered around his two boys, Jack David Ebel and James Arthur Ebel. They were in Indian Y Guides, Boy Scout Troop 224, and the Atomic City Aquatic Club. He served as president for several terms. The boys were brought up in Grace Lutheran Church. He retired from the Diffusion Plant in 1983. For the next ten years he traveled with his wife to every continent including, Australia. They saw the points of interest and studied the history of each country they visited. He loved to write and authored books on the history of his family, going back to the Civil War, and also a book on their travel adventures. Lately he has been occupied primarily with his children, grandchildren, and working at Grace Lutheran Church. He always felt that he had been truly blessed in his career, in his family life, and in his spiritual life. Mr. Ebel is survived by: his wife of 64 years, Dorothy B. Ebel; sons, Jack Ebel and wife Penelope of Lexington, KY and Jim Ebel and wife Rose of Oak Ridge; sisters, Dorothy Lohman of Houston, TX and Shirley Jesberg of Phoenix, AZ. Mr. Ebel's nine grandchildren adored their grandfather and will miss him dearly. Funeral services are Tuesday at 11:00am at Grace Lutheran Church with Rev. Stephen Damos officiating. The burial will follow at Oak Ridge Memorial Park. The family asks that any memorials be directed to Grace Lutheran Church, 131 W. Gettysburg, Oak Ridge, TN 37830. O'NEAL, HALLIE MARTELL McKINNEY - 90 of Clinton, died Saturday, January 22, 2005 at the Continuum Courtyards. Mrs. Hallie O'Neal, better known to her friends as Dolly, was born in Bedford, Kentucky on January 17, 1915, the daughter of William McKinney and Rose Kidwell McKinney. She was the widow of Norman Alexander O'Neal who died January 8, 1998 after 66 years of marriage. Mrs. O'Neal had been a resident of Oak Ridge since 1945 and was a member of Robertsville Baptist Church. She was a homemaker who devoted her entire life to her family and home. She was an exceptional cook and decorator and also an avid basketball fan. She is survived by: son, Palo O'Neal and his wife, Pat of Oak Ridge; daughter, Norma Cardwell and her husband, Morris of Overland Park, Kansas; three grandchildren, Danny O'Neal and his wife Connie of Dickson, TN, Teri Browne and her husband, Patrick of Olathe, KS, Eric Cardwell and his wife, Charline of Olathe, KS. Mrs. O'Neal is also survived by: two step-children, Cathy Fulgham and her husband, Joel of Chicago, Illinois, Carson Cooper and his wife, Pam of St. Petersburg, FL. She has eight great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. She also had four step-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be held in the chapel of Weatherford Mortuary at 7 pm on Tuesday, January 25, 2005 with Dr. Michael Prince officiating. An entombment service will be on Wednesday, 9 am at Woodhaven Memorial Gardens in Claxton. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 5-7 pm at Weatherford Mortuary in Oak Ridge. Born July 4, 1915 in Coosa County, Alabama, he was preceded in death by: his wife, Fredia Russell White; parents, Thomas D. and Lula Jane White; several brothers and sisters, and grandchildren, Alexander Cline and Salea Duncan. A member of First United Methodist Church, he was a U. S. Army WWII veteran, and retired from Union Carbide Corp. National Laboratory at Oak Ridge after 26 years. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers, and traveled throughout the southeast as a union organizer for the American Federation of Labor. A life-long Democrat, he was active in party politics on the local and state level. He is survived by: a son, Karl White (Cora) of Knoxville; three daughters, Ann (Virgil) Cline of Tullahoma, TN.; Joan Majit of Milpitas, Cal. and Lea (Ron) Duncan of Harriman; grandchildren, Sharon Cissell, David and Adam Cline, Eric Anderson, Luke and Samara Duncan and Kayla White; great grandchildren, Jordan and Ethan Cissell and Abigail and Olivia Cline. Funeral 2:30pm Tuesday January 25, 2005 in the Kyker Chapel with Rev. Robert Pfaff and Rev. Michelle Buckles officiating.
