>From The Oak Ridger 4 Sep 2007 Carus Kisner Hicks DuBose, 78, Carus Kisner Hicks DuBose, 78, a retired engineer from Oak Ridge National Laboratory, died Monday, Sept. 3, 2007, in Oak Ridge. DuBose, a native of West Virginia, worked in the Metals and Ceramics Division at Oak Ridge National Laboratory for 35 years. He retired in 1990. He was chairman of the contest of the International Metallographic Society and the American Society of Metals International from 1968 to 1981 and was honored for his service in 1989. DuBose was a veteran of the Korean War, having served in the U.S. Air Force for four years. He was an avid photographer and was known for his photographs of the Great Smoky Mountain National Park and other scenic areas of East Tennessee. He served as an assistant scoutmaster for Troops 229 and 328 of the Boy Scouts of America. DuBose supervised Boy Scouts on outdoors trips throughout the region and accompanied Scout troop 328 to the Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico. DuBose graduated from Norris High School in 1948 and attended the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. He was a member of United Church, Chapel on the Hill. DuBose is survived by his wife of 50 years, Mary Estelle Fulmer; three sons, Michael, William and James; four grandchildren; and a sister, Josephine DuBose-Shirlen. He was preceded in death by parents Laura Louise DuBose and Carus Hicks. The family will receive friends on Thursday, Sept. 6, 2007, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the United Church Chapel-on-the Hill with the funeral service at 8 p.m. with the Rev. Boyd Carter officiating. The family asks that any memorials be in the form of contributions to the Boys Scouts of America. Graveside services are 10 a.m. Friday at Woodhaven Memorial Gardens in Claxton with full military honors provided by the Volunteer State War Era Honor Guard.
