From the Knoxville News sentinel 13 Mar 2004 FERGUSON, BILLIE RHEA BUTTERS - 76, of Oak Ridge, STRONG, ALMA EDITH - age 93 of Lake City, FERGUSON, BILLIE RHEA BUTTERS - 76, of Oak Ridge, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, March 11, 2005, after a long battle with Multiple Sclerosis. In the last few weeks, she had been treated at the Methodist Medical Center in Oak Ridge. She was born September 8, 1928, in Knoxville, the daughter of Oliver Wendell Phillips and Annette Craig Phillips. She worked for many years as a secretary, first at Trinity United Methodist Church in Oak Ridge and then at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. Mrs. Ferguson was a member of the First Baptist Church in Oak Ridge for 52 years. In her earlier years, she was active with the Anderson County Democratic Women and was an avid bowler. In her later years, she enjoyed drawing, bird watching, reading, playing bridge and Scrabble, and working crossword puzzles. She is survived by her devoted husband, James Edward Ferguson with whom she would have celebrated a 34th wedding anniversary on April 8. She is also survived by her daughters, Deborah Widener of Oak Ridge, Shari C. Butters of Kingston, and Rhonda Madewell and husband Ron of Oak Ridge; son, James R. Ferguson and wife Mary of Knoxville; and sister, Marjorie Phillips of Oak Ridge. Mrs. Ferguson is also survived by four grandchildren, Dawn Huotari and husband John of Oak Ridge, Heather Debord and husband Ron of Knoxville, and Kimberly and Michael Higginbotham of Oak Ridge; and four great-grandchildren, Chris Douglas, Samantha Kuca, and Savannah and Luke Debord. Funeral services are Sunday, March 13, 2005 at 8:00 p.m. at Weatherford Mortuary with Dr. Ray Lloyd officiating: Graveside services are Monday at 10:00 a.m. at Woodhaven Memorial Gardens in Claxton. STRONG, ALMA EDITH - age 93 of Lake City, passed away Friday, March 11, 2005 at the Lake City Health Care Center. She was born April 29, 1911 in Anderson County, Tenn. to the late Charles and Maggie Lee McGuire Duff. Edith was a member of the Island Ford Baptist Church. She loved dealing with junk, yard sales and spending time with family and friends. She was a friend to all who knew her. Edith is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Sam Strong; daughter, Helen Strong; sons, George Kelly Strong & Tommy Frank Strong; brothers, Code Duff, Earl Duff, Pete Duff, Glen Duff & Charles Duff; sisters, Ila Burress, Ona Roberts, Effie Cummings, and Kate Fowler. Survivors: son, Joe & Kay Strong, Ferndale, Mich.; daughters, Ludy & Walter Daughterty, Lake City, Judy Strong Buell, Livonia, Mich., Joy & Bob Johnson, Almont, Mich., Naomi Strong Goemaere, LaFollette, Tenn.; 22 grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren.
