Dear Barbara Do you have anything on Severs or other spellings of Seivers. ? I may have contacted you before. My address book on variant spellings of Severs is a mess as there are so many entries and i have been unable to find a system that really works. I would, usually list you as Barbara SeiversKesterson so it would index with Seivers but sometimes I would list it differently. Some time ago I talked with Mary Harris at the Court House and she was working on a family (Leinart??) which had come to Anderson county as a huge family unit. The father had 7 daughters, all had married, and three had married Seivers or similar spellings . She thought my William Severs l752 was one of them. He did not seem to be as he had married a Catherine Peck in Montgomery Co Va in l793 and came to Knox Co before l802 and appeared to be in the part that was made into Anderson Co. There were known children (William l797, John l798, Jacob Peck l809 , and Mary "Polly" Severs l795--she married William Lamar as his wife #2 in l8ll at age l5 apparently). There were other posssibles (Daniel l800-02, Charles Jackson Severs l8ll) and, probably, some other daughters. The males seem to appear in the earliest census of Anderson Co. Phillip Seiber was a contemporary and both WIlliam and Phillip were mentioned in the early Court Minutes as road workers, etc, and their last names varied so much in spelling that they could not be distinguished except by first name. It is possible there were others named Phillip and WIlliam mixed in there but not so likely. If you are aware of anyone else working on Severs I would appreciate knowing. I have some scattered info on other spellings of Severs acquired along the way, especially Phillip Seiber. It does appear that William Severs was a deserting Hessian soldier having deserted in Savanna GA in July l782 and being named Johannes Wilhelm Siebert at that time. In l793 he married under the name of William Severs. In Knox co there seems to be one record as William Sevoirs but nothing else. I have the exact birth date of the Hessian and have his parents and uncle back in Germany to about l720. If anyone has a DOB on WIlliam Severs it would help confirm/dismiss the "Hessian theory". There was some doubt that William l797 was really a son of William l752 but a DNA test, recently, was a 24/25 match with a known relative of Jacob l809. Possibly someone is aware of something that might lead to finding a DOB that William Severs THOUGHT was his. Since he was born in l752 and the Hessian was born l751 in Feb. and Since there was no Feb in l751 on the English Calender or in the "Colonies" it is likely the Hessian might think he was born in l752 as the date would have been written l751/2. My understanding is that before l752 the first Month of the year was MARCH. In l752 Jan and Feb were taken from l751 and given to l752 (note-September means 7, October means 8, November means 9, and December means l0th month BEFORE the change). At any rate William l752 was buried in the fall of l852 and his stone reads "AGE 100". (The Hessian would, really have been "Age 101" as he was born under the German calender --which changed BEFORE his birth. Sorry to be so windy, but his DOB could be critical to some confirmation of the "Hessian Theory" as it is a family legend but UNPROVEN. Since I have found the family (Metzebach, Germany) a finding of a living relative in Germany could result in DNA proof of this Theory/Legend. Charles Severs
