From the Knoxville News Sentinel 4 Mar 2004 HYDE, CLARENCE GERALD - 90 of Oak Ridge, MASSENGILL, IRMA - age 90, of Lake City HYDE, CLARENCE GERALD - 90 of Oak Ridge, passed away peacefully at his home, Wednesday, March 02, 2005, surrounded by his loved ones. He was born in Bryson City, North Carolina on September 24, 1914. Mr. Hyde came to Oak Ridge in 1950 and worked as an ironworker for Union Carbide at the Y -12 plant until he retired in 1973. He was a devoted family man and avid fisherman, who spent many enjoyable hours on lakes and streams enjoying the sport with family and friends. Mr. Hyde was an accomplished mechanic and took pleasure keeping the cars, lawn motors, roto- tillers, and outboard motors of all his neighbors and family in good running condition. He also enjoyed raising a vegetable garden and yard work. Mr. Hyde was preceded in death by: his mother and father, Henry Grady Hyde and Amanda Dorsey Hyde; and brother, Paul Hyde; and sister, Gladys Jenkins. He is survived by: his wife, Lois, of 67 years; his sons, Gerald Hyde and wife, Juanita, of Gainesville, FL, Bobby Hyde and wife, Nancy, of Oak Ridge, Billy Hyde, and wife, Rosemary, of Clinton; and daughter, Sandra Namken, of Gallup, NM.; his grandchildren, Eric Hyde, Brian Hyde, Neal Hyde, Doug Hyde, Ginger Hardy, Susan Hyde, Jason Hyde, and Rebecca Hyde; his great-grandchildren, Jessica Lyon, Josh Lyon, Tucker Hyde, Koby Hyde, Leo Hyde and Ashley Hardy. Mr. Hyde is also survived by: his step-mother, Bessie Hyde, of Asheville, NC., his half-sisters, Eleanor Ownby and husband, Nathan, of Asheville, NC and Evelyn House, and husband, Cliff, of Warner Robbins, GA. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 5, 2005 at 1:30pm at Weatherford Mortuary with Rev. Bob Gray officiating. The graveside services at Oak Ridge Memorial Park will be private. MASSENGILL, IRMA - age 90, of Lake City went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 2, 2005 at the St. Mary's Medical Center of Campbell County. She was born July 8, 1914 in Campbell County. She was the daughter of the late John J. & Cora Massengill. She was preceded in death by parents, sister, Nyree Nelson; nephews, Lowell & Jimmy D. Nelson. Survivors: brother: James A. Massengill & wife, Mildred, of Norris; nephew: Lewis Charles Nelson of Norris; niece: Carolyn Lawson & husband, Trent, of West Tennessee; great-niece: Tanya Hackney & husband, Jonathan, of Kentucky; great-nephews: Eddie & Robbie Nelson of Lake City. The family will receive friends on Friday, March 4th, from 6 to 8 PM at the Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Lake City with the funeral service to follow at 8:00 PM in the chapel with the Rev. Henry Hensley officiating. Interment will be Saturday, March 5th at 11:00 AM at the Oak Grove Cemetery in Lake City.
