    3. I'm looking for information on the Lewis Ralston and Ellen Gentry family that lived in Union Co in 1900. Both their ancestors lived in Union Co and Anderson Co in the 1800's. Below is information on their family: Ralston, Lewis, b Dec 1859 in Cole Creek, Anderson Co, TN Gentry, Ellen, b July 1870, KS, possibly Caldwell, Sumner Co Ralston, James, b bet Apr & June 9, 1891, Cole Creek, Anderson Co, TN Ralston, Wm "Bill" C Ralston, b Apr 1896 Ralston, Laura A, b Apr 1900 Gentry, Anne W, b Feb 1888 in Caldwell, Sumner Co, KS, d/o Ellen Gentry *In 1900, neighbors of the Lewis Ralston family were the Stewksberrys. Lewis Ralston's parents are Wm "Bill" Ralston, b 1817 in TN and Sarah Stewksberry, b 1830. The Wm "Bill" Ralston family appears in one of the Union co censuses for 1850 or 1860; I've forgotten which one. Ralston, Wm "Bill", b 1817 Stewksberry, Sarah, b 1830 Ralston, Lewis R, b 1859 Ralston, Elizabeth, b 1853 Ralston, Mary, b 1854 Ralston, Joseph, b 1856 Ralston, Louisa, b 1857 Ralston, Nancy, b 1858 *Ellen Gentry's grandparents are listed on the 1860 & 1850 Anderson Co censuses and are as follows: Gentry, Alfred, b 1820 in TN Unknown, Sarah, b 1821 in TN Gentry, Wm "Bill" E, b 1841 Gentry, Joseph E, b 1840 Gentry, Susannah, b 1844 Gentry, Altmaninah, b 1846 Gentry, Sarah E, b 1848 Gentry, Mary Ann, b 1849 Gentry, Dr W, b 1852 Gentry, Isaac D, b 1854 Gentry, Nancy, b 1856 Gentry, George W, b 1857 Gentry, Margaret W, b Jan 1860 a. Wm "Bill" E Gentry must have left Anderson Co in about 1859 or sooner because he is not enumerated on the 1860 Anderson census. In fact, I can't find him listed on any federal census. According to the 1900 Union Co census of Ellen's parents' birth places, he married a girl from TN. They must have left together for the west. Their daughter, Ellen was born in 1870 in KS and according to their marriage record, was married to Lewis Ralston in Wellington, Sumner Co, KS in 1890. There is, also, a marriage record for a Wm Gentry to Mary Harris in 1892 in Wellington, Sumner Co, KS, and I believe he must have been Ellen's brother. b. It has always been maintained in the family that Ellen Gentry was 3/4 Cherokee. Most of us have these stories, but there's no doubt that this one's true. Her children bear it out in their appearance. I'm wondering if there were any Indian towns in Union and/or Anderson Co in the 1850's to 1860's? c. Lewis Ralston and Ellen Gentry moved to Pineville, Bell Co, KY after 1900 where Lewis worked in the coal mines. He died in 1926, and she died in 1929. Thanks for any help. I would like to make any connections w/ these families, as they've been very difficult to trace. The family knows very little about them, and as a result of floods and a lack of interest there are few to no family pictures or papers. Regards, Connie
