He is survived by his wife, Margaret Mabes Baird of Williamsburg, KY; daughters, Kimberly Mabes of U.S. Navy and Amy Marie Mabes of Williamsburg, KY; brother, Orval Baird of Baltimore, MD; sisters, Mabel Baird of Baltimore, MD, Brenda Gross of Hazard, KY, Frances Baird of MO and Joyce Stricker of MO; several nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends to mourn his passing. Funeral services were Feb. 25 at Croley Funeral Home with Rev. John Justice officiating. Interment was in the Baird Cemetery. "Jim" Baird born Nov. 8, 1921 passed away Feb. 28 at the Methodist Medical Center in Oak Ridge. He attended the Ivey Dale Church of God. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He enjoyed going to the mountains, four wheeling and gardening. He was preceded in death by his sons, LeRoy and Harold Baird; four sisters; two brothers; parents, Albert and Martha Hatmaker Baird. He is survived by his wife, Reva Baird of LaFollette; daughter, Patsy Powers of Caryville; sons, Charles Baird of Jacksboro, Jerry Baird of Caryville and Steve Baird of Jacksboro; brother, Charles Baird of Ypsilanit, MI; seven grandchildren, two great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services were March 2 in the Martin Wilson Chapel with the Rev. Pat Ayers and Rev. Tommy Swafford. Interment will be March 3 at 11 a.m. in the Woodlawn Cemetery. He was preceded in death by his brother, John Blankenship; sister, Sentenual Foster. Harvey Bullock, age 80 of Caryville passed away March 1 at the Lake City Health Care Center. He was a member of Caryville First Baptist Church. He was retired from Union Carbide in Oak Ridge. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was preceded in death by his wife, Faye Pebley Bullock. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Roger and Mary Bullock of Albuquerque, NM; daughter, Margie Bullock of LaFollette; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be March 4 at 11 a.m. at Cross Chapel with the Rev. T.D. Hooker officiating. Interment will follow in Campbell Memorial Gardens. Blanche Burris, age 68 of Caryville passed away Feb. 23 at her residence. She was born Nov. 19, 1936 in Anderson County to the late Arthur and Gladys Merwin Neer. She was a member of the Berachas Baptist Tabernacle. She was a very loving wife and mother. She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Patricia Bransom; son, Virgil Burris; brother, Carl Neer; sister, Mary Daugherty. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Ellis Burris of Caryville; sons, Arthur Burris and wife, Libby of Claxton, Jimmy Burris and wife, Linda of Jacksboro, Donnie Burris of Oak Ridge, Arthur James Neer of Anderson County; daughter, Nancy Burris and Bobby Andrews of Caryville; brothers, Clyde Neer of Lake City and Doug Neer of Powell; sisters, Gladys Harrill of Norris and Bertha Fritts of Andersonville; nine grandchildren; special grandson, Jimmy. Shan Carroll, age 86 of Fairfield, PA, formley of LaFollette passed away Feb. 22. He was preceded in death by his sister, Ruby Leach. Cook, age 81 of LaFollette passed away Feb. 22 at St. Mary's of Campbell County. He was a veteran of World War II and a member of the Stooksbury Masonic Lodge. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Cook; son, Stanley Wallace; parents, Richard and Goldie Barker Cook. He is survived by his daughter, Renee Carper of Toledo, OH; sons, Reggie Cooke of Kingsport and Ron Wallace of Knoxville; nine grandchildren, six great grandchildren; a host of relatives and friends. Ronnie Gene Cooper, age 70 of LaFollette passed away Feb. 27 at Sunbridge Nursing Home. He was of the Baptist faith. He loved to whittle. He loved his grandchildren and family very much. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Cooper; parents, Homer and Ellen Parrott Cooper. He is survived by his son and daughter in law, Dewayne and Lisa Cooper of Newnan, GA; grandchildren, Daniel and Jessica Cooper of Newnan, GA; sisters, Pauline Queener of LaFollette and Jeanette Davis of Pontiac, MI; special niece and nephew, June and Ray Watts of Middlesboro; several nieces and nephews and a host of other friends and relatives. Charles E. Cowan, age 73 of Louisville, KY, formerly of LaFollette, passed away Feb. 21. He was a retired Army Sergeant Major with 29 plus years of service, having served in WWII, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. He was a security guard for the University of Louisville and a member of the German-American Club, Parents without Partners and Sister Cities of Louisville. He was preceded in death by his wife, Alfreida Cowan; parents, Grant and Ola Hobbs Cowan; brothers, Fred and Bobby Cowan. His is survived by a daughter, Ronda D. Beck and her husband, Mark; several nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Funeral services were Feb. 26 at Owen Funeral Home, Louisville, KY with interment in Bethany Cemetery. She was a member of the Eastern Star in Texas and Calvary Baptist Church in West Palm Beach, FL. She was preceded in death by her husband, Delmas Fortner. She is survived by her nephew, Ellis Walker and wife, Sue of LaFollette, Paul Walker and wife, Andrea of Quebec, Canada; great nieces, Michelle White, and Christy Walker; great-great niece, Rebecca White, and great-great nephew, Michael Senick. She was a nurse and worked in the medical care profession. She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Norma Tilden. She is survived by her husband, Vester W. Louise Green, age 83 of LaFollette passed away Feb. 21 at the St. Mary's Medical Center in Knoxville. She was a member of the High Street Baptist Church. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great great grandmother who enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She also enjoyed playing the piano while children were singing, going to church and gospel music. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Green; daughter, Fayette Lee; parents, Harley and Bell Housley Bass; sisters, Geneva Edmonds, Vireda Crisp, Wilma Jean Housley and Mary Nelson; brother, James Housley. She was retired from General Mills in Chicago, IL, a World War II veteran, a member of the D.A.V. and the American Legion. She attended Charity Worship Center. She was preceded in death by her parents, Luke and Kate Dowell Herrell; brothers, Carl, Elmer, Luther and Willard Herrell. She is survived by 16 nieces and nephews; several great nieces and nephews. Funeral services were March 1 in the Cross Chapel with the Rev. Harry James officiating. Interment was in the Bakers Forge Cemetery with full military honors by the Campbell County Honor Guard. He was born Feb. 26 in Anderson County to the late Woodrow and Vonnie Eldridge McGhee. He was of the Baptist faith. He enjoyed bowling, fishing, selling cars and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Albert Wayne McGhee. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother who enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She also enjoyed teaching Sunday school. She was preceded in death by her son and daughter-in-law, Steven and Hulana Marlow of Jacksboro; daughters and sons-in-law, Connie and Kenny Campbell and Diann and Ricky Stewart, all of Duff; ten grandchildren and two great grandchildren; mother, Edna Milton Burger of Duff; brother, Raymond Milton of Duff; special friend, Lorine Milton of Duff. She is survived by her son, Jerry Reese of Indianapolis, IND; daughter, Lois Coffey of LaFollette; three grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, one great great grandchild; several nieces, nephews and a host of friends. Joan Catherine Owens, age 65 of Speedwell, passed away Feb. 24 at Wellmont Bristol Regional Medical Center in Bristol. She was of the Baptist faith and attended the Outreach Baptist Church in Middlesboro, KY. She was employed by The Peoples National Bank for over 25 years. Above all else her purpose in life was to be a mother to her two sons and that made her most happy. She was preceded in death by her parents, Russell and Henrietta Burgmeier; stepmother, Helen Burgmeier; great nephew, Dustin James Henson. She is survived by her husband, Jake M. Owens, Jr. of Speedwell; sons, Gregg Russell Owens and wife, Linda of The Plains, OH, Mitchell Douglas Owens and wife, Judy Ratliff of Murray, KY; brother, James Charles Burgmeier and wife, Josie of Santa Clara, CA; nieces, Deborah Elaine Burgmeier and her fiance, Randy Bolding of Marionville, MO, Paula Burgmeier of Morgan Hill, CA, and Becky Jindrich and husband, Tom of Danville, CA; great nieces, Catherine Henson, Ashley Barnett, and Kayla Jindrich; great nephew, Joseph Jindrich; several other relatives and many, many friends.Private graveside services were conducted by Rev. She was a licensed LPN, going to school for her R.N. license. She passed the test for the THP. She loved to play volleyball, music and her house was done in frogs. She loved her family very much. She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Poly Wright; special friend, Mark with love from Ashley, Dustyn and Pearl. She is survived by her children, Ashley and Dustyn Seals of Clinton; parents, Tony and Pearl Harmon of Jacksboro; brothers, Tommy Gene and David Scott Harmon of Jacksboro; special nephews, Cody and Jonathon Harmon of Jacksboro; a host of other relatives and friends.
