Charles was a member of Clinton Second Baptist Church and was born September 1, 1971 in Anderson County. Preceded in death by father, Howard M. Davis; brother, Stephen Davis; niece, Rachael Rhyne. Survivors: mother, Evelyn Davis of Clinton; son, Noah Jacob Davis of LaFollette; daughter, Gracie Renee Davis of LaFollette; former wife, Mary Davis Miller & husband Chuck of LaFollette; sisters, Glori & husband Gordon Bright of Knoxville; Lisa & husband Terry Champion of Powell; nephew, Joshua Bright; niece, Hannah C. Champion. The family will receive friends 6:00-8:00 PM, Friday, March 18, 2005 at Holley-Gamble Funeral Home with funeral services following in the chapel with Rev. Charles Pickrell officiating. DAVIS, JIMMIE - age 82, of Caryville (Stoney Fork Community), passed away Wednesday, March 16, 2005 at Baptist Hospital in Knoxville. She was a member of Pleasant View Baptist Church in Clinton. She was preceded in death by: her husband, Charles Davis; and parents, Billy and Elizabeth Cross Tackett; brothers, Joe, Ike, Starling, Robert, Ed and Tildon Tackett; sisters, Melvina Daughtery, Laura Marlow, Biddie Davis, Kansy Watson, Luvernie and Mabell Tackett. Survivors: daughter and son-in-law, Beulah & Kyle Akers of Chattanooga; sons, Bobby Joe Davis of Clinton, George & Herbert (Peanut) Davis both of Caryville; special granddaughter and husband, Christy & Chris Barton of Caryville; several nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Funeral services 2 pm Saturday at Beech Fork Baptist Church with Rev. James Adkins and Rev. Lee Phillips officiating. Interment at Beech Fork Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6 to 8 pm Friday at Cross Funeral Home in LaFollette. MARTIN, PAUL E. - age 62 of Knoxville, passed away March 16, 2005 at his home. He was an Army Veteran of the Viet Nam War. Survived by wife, Carol Martin; son, Darrell Martin; brothers, William of Oliver Springs, Robert, Michael, and Harry Martin all of Oak Ridge; sister, Marie Gassaway of Clinton; several nieces and nephews. Family and friends will meet at 10:45 am Saturday at Oak Ridge Memorial Park for an 11:00 am graveside service. Rev. Ray Buchanan officiating. L. - age 89, of LaFollette, passed away Wednesday, March 16, 2005 at St. Mary's Hospital in Knoxville, He was of the Baptist faith and retired from State of Tennessee Dept. of Transportation. Preceded in death by wives; Edra Johnson Meredith & Mayme Carmany Meredith, parents: Samp & Sarah Reynolds Meredith, and grandson, Brent Branam. Arrangements by Cross Funeral Home MULLINS, LARRY EUGENE - age 55 of Clinton, formerly of the Beech Grove Community, passed away Tuesday, March 15, 2005 at the Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. He was born August 30, 1949 in Weeksbury, Ky. to the late Aster and Virginia Scarbrough Mullins. Larry was a member of the New Hope Baptist Church. He loved fishing, woodcrafts and dancing. He is preceded in death by his parents. Survivors: son, Michael J. Mullins & wife, Tina, Clinton; daughter, Kimberly Wilson & husband, Daryl, Clinton; 7 grandchildren. Hatmaker Funeral Home of Lake City in charge of arrangements. PENNY, SELDON KEITH - 72, of West Knoxville went to be with the Lord on March 17, 2005. He is survived by the love of his life and wife of 49 years, Marvene G. Penny; his sister Arda Louise Cook; and his children Lisa Marie Clay, Laura Jayne Irwin, Seldon Keith Penny Jr., Lynnbeth McCarn; and his in-laws Skip Clay, Jeff Irwin, Beverly Penny, and Malcolm McCarn. He is leaving behind 12 grandchildren Courtney McCarn Niemann, Tiffany Clay Bailey, LauraBeth Clay Cole, Keith Edward Clay, Travis McCarn, Katherine Penny, Brandon McCarn, Abby McCarn, David Keith Penny, Kyle Irwin, Chica Irwin, and Luke Penny and Dear Friend, Betty McDowell. Keith was also blessed with his first great grandchild Claire Marie Bailey. Keith was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on August 25, 1932 to Oren Seldon and Arda Mae Penny. He graduated with honors from the University of Oklahoma in 1954 with a degree in engineering physics and was a member of the Tau Beta Pi engineering honor society. He later attended the University of Tennessee where he obtained a doctorate degree in physics. He was one of the first few students to graduate from the former Oak Ridge School of Reactor Technology. Keith joined the Oak Ridge National Laboratory in 1955 in the Neutron Physics division. In 1963 he organized and served as the first director of the Radiation Shielding Information Center. He worked on many projects while at ORNL including the nuclear airplane, the Tower Shielding Reactor, the Bulk Shielding Reactor, the Oak Ridge Research Reactor, and the Health Physics Research Reactor. Later, he joined the computer science division as section head and later was the Chief Officer of Computer Security. He retired after 35 years of service in 1989. Keith was always very active in his community of Solway where he established the Solway community center and was involved in the West Knoxville Optimist Club. He was most noted in the community for his passion for coaching softball. Because of his love for his three daughters, he coached girls' softball for many years and was a great influence on many young peoples' lives throughout the community. He was very active in his church, Robertsville Baptist, where he was an ordained deacon. He taught Sunday school for 12 years and sang in the choir most of his adult life. Funeral services are Saturday, March 19, 2005 at 10:00 am at Robertsville Baptist Church with Dr. Michael Prince officiating. Graveside services are Saturday at 4:00 pm at Sherwood Memorial Gardens in Knoxville. STOUT, GLADYS MITCHELL - age 93, formerly of Clinton, passed away Thursday, March 17, 2005 at her residence in Jellico. Gladys was a member of St. Mark United Methodist Church and was born July 20, 1911 in Union County. She is preceded in death by husband, Earl C. Stout; parents, Rufus & Mary Stooksbury Mitchell; daughter, Mary Helen Mounger; son, William Foster Stout; sisters, Zena Stooksbury, Mossie Webb, Ina Lay, and Reba Melton; brothers, Herman and Bill Mitchell. Survivors: daughters, Bobbie E. Stout of West Virginia, Brenda Gail Bratcher of Louisville, KY, Kay & husband George Dobson of Jellico, Sue & husband Larry Kelly of Gallatin; son-in-law, Frank Mounger of Clinton; 12 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Lonnie was a member of Farmers Grove Baptist Church and was born April 1, 1919 in Campbell County. He was a veteran of the United States Army having served in World War II. He was a member of the Clinton Alpha Masonic Lodge ##376 F. & A.M. Preceded in death by parents, John & Eva Sexton York; brothers and sisters; son-in-law, Carl "Bub" Peace. Survivors: wife of 67 1/2 years, Mary York of Clinton; daughters, Wanda Roberts of Clinton, Roberta & husband Charles "Chuck" Henderson of Clinton, Loretta "Gail" Foust of Clinton, Vickie Peace of Clinton, Connie Ross of Clinton; sons-in-law, Jim Roberts of Morristown, Joe Foust of Knoxville,Paul Wilder of Clinton, Ronnie Ross of Knoxville; brother, Carl York of Clinton; sister, Edna Blair of Clinton; 6 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
