Brummett, 84, a resident of Oliver Springs, Mary Alice Slusher Campbell, age 80, Jerry Lynn Lively, 58, a lifelong resident of Oliver Springs, Richard David Smyser, 81, of Oak Ridge, Lisa Mars, of Lake City, Gladys Bessie Mitchell Stout, 93, of Clinton, Lonnie York Carl A. Brummett, 84, a resident of Oliver Springs, died Wednesday, March 16, 2005, at Fort Sanders Parkwest Medical Center in Knoxville. The son of John W. and Mattie Miller Brummett, he was born on July 26, 1920, in Clinton, and lived all of his life in Oliver Springs. He was a coal miner who had worked in several area coal mines. He retired in 1981 from the K-25 Plant in Oak Ridge after 17 years of service. He was a member of the United Mine Workers of America and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local Union No. 760. Mr. Brummett was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II who received a Silver Service Star and one Bronze Star. He served in the 90th Bombardment Group, 319th Squadron. Mr. Brummett always expressed concern for the well-being of others and never put himself before his friends and family. He was never harsh or temperamental toward others and always had a kind word for everyone. He was a family man who was proud of his home, wife, children, granddaughter, and great-grandson. His family will deeply miss his love and kindness. He was a loving husband, a tremendous father and grandfather, and the best "Poppy" ever to his great-grandson, Tanner. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Larry Steve Brummett and Carl Gary Brummett, and a brother and two sisters, Clyde Brummett, Lucille Pride and Beulah Duncan. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Floella Duncan Brummett of Oliver Springs; his daughter, Vickie McGinty of Oliver Springs; his granddaughter, Kristy Styles Herron of Maryville; and his great-grandson, Tanner Carlton Herron of Maryville; his sister, Johnnie Duncan and husband, Raymond, of Oliver Springs; and special friends, John and Margie Dugger of Briceville, Jim and Bea Hall of Canton, Ill., T.J. and Marjorie Barrett of Shepherd, Mich., and Ken Palmer of Oliver Springs. He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. The family extends a very special thank you to Private Sitters Eldercare, Terry Phillips, Kathy Phillips, Ruby Roberson, Joanna Hamby, friends and co-workers at Oak Ridge National Laboratory's Research Reactors Division, Y-12 Plant Maintenance, Dr. Ronald Pack, and Fort Sanders Parkwest Medical Center, 2nd floor staff. The funeral will be held at 8 p.m. Friday, March 18, 2005, in the chapel of Sharp Funeral Home in Oliver Springs with the Rev. Luke Kidwell and the Rev. Tommy Hensley officiating. The burial and graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 19, at Anderson Memorial Gardens in Clinton. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. Mary Alice Slusher Campbell, age 80, died Wednesday, March 16, 2005, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. The daughter of George and Vergie Slusher, she was born May 1, 1924. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, William David Campbell, and five brothers and a sister, John, Matt, David, Knuckles, Luther and Amanda Slusher. Mrs. Campbell is survived by her daughter, Gayle Alford; her son, Charles Campbell Jr.; her brother, Paul Slusher; and by five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. The funeral will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 18, 2005, in the chapel of Martin Oak Ridge Funeral Home with the Rev. John Hughes and the Rev. Brian Kearns officiating. A memorial service and burial will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 19, at the Cow Fork Baptist Church in Beverly, Ky. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Online messages to the family may be left at www.martinoakridgefuneralhome.com. Jerry Lynn Lively, 58, a lifelong resident of Oliver Springs, died Wednesday, March 16, 2005, at the James G. Quillen Veterans Hospital in Mountain City. The son of William Ernest Lively and Pearl Roberts Lively, he was born Feb. 7, 1947, in Oliver Springs. Mr. Lively was a U.S. Army sergeant who served his country proudly during the Vietnam War. He was an expert M-14 rifleman, receiving several medals, badges and decorations, which included a Purple Heart with an Oak Leaf Cluster, a Republic Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device 1960, a Vietnam Service Medal, a National Defense Service Medal, a Parachutist Badge and a Combat Infantryman Badge. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Edna Hardwick. Mr. Lively is survived by his son, Ernest Scott Lively of Oliver Springs; his sister, Margaret Woods and husband, the Rev. Herman Woods, of Kingston; his granddaughter, Heather Morgan of Oliver Springs; a brother-in-law, Don Hardwick of Florida; two aunts, Lucille Pride of Oliver Springs and Beulah Flynn of California; and by a several extended family members and many special friends at the American Legion, Post No. 112, in Oliver Springs . The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 19, 2005, in the chapel of Sharp Funeral Home in Oliver Springs with the Rev. Herman Woods and the Rev. Kevin Nichols officiating. Burial and a graveside service will follow at Oliver Springs Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Richard David Smyser, 81, of Oak Ridge, died Monday, March 14, 2005, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. Mr. Smyser is survived by two daughters, Lucy Tashman and husband, Ira, of Decatur, Ga., and Katherine Smyser McAleer, and her husband, V.J., of Highland Park, Ill.; seven grandchildren; Michael, Paul and Nathan Tashman of Decatur, Ga., and Ally, Quinn, Mariel and Shea McAleer of Highland Park, Ill.; and by his sister, Alice Raphel of Monkton, Md. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, March 19, 2005, at the Oak Ridge Unitarian Universalist Church with Jake Marrill presiding. A reception will follow the service.
