    3. Anderson County News Sept. 6, 1919 Fatal Fall From Stairway Wiley Ring, Veteran Citizen, Victim Of Singular Accident Wiley Ring, aged 72 years, was fatally injured by a fall from a stairway early last Saturday morning in the Fourth district of Anderson county and lived but a short time. He was decending an old fashioned stairway without railing and in making a mistep fell striking his forehead. The morning was cloudy and on arising early he failed to see clearly to prevent the unfortunate accident. The remains were taken to Clinton and prepared for burial by the Clinton Undertaking Co., to await the hour of funeral. Deceased was born in Anderson county and spent his long and active life here. He was a Federal soldier in the Civil War and saw service on the battlefield. After the war he engaged in railroad construction work and her with many other Clinton men helped in construction of the old K& O railroad. At one time he owned much local real estate and built both business and residence houses on his property. He was a progressive and industrious citizen and took much pride in the growth of his home town. He leaves five daughters, Mesdames Will King, of St. Louis, John B. Shinliver of Knoxville, Mattie Norman of West Virginia, Misses Emma, of Settle, Wash., Parthenia, Knoxville, two sons, Amos M. Ring, St. Louis, Stephen Ring, Clinton and other near relative. The funeral services were conducted at the Mortuary hall of Clinton Undertaking Co., Monday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock by Rev. Bascom Waters, who spoke of the warm friendship he entertained for the deceased as a citizen and fellow townman. It is the request of the deceased that no flowers be donated for the services and that the funeral be brief as possible, as he discredited long drawn services and flowers over the dead. Touching music was rendered by Messra D. C. Richards, H. C. Scruggs, Misses Josephine and Lillian Scruggs. The room was crowded with relatives and friends, who after taking a farewell look upon the features of the deceased, followed the remains to Sunset Cemetery for interment. The death of Mr. Ring removes a veteran citizen of the community and his genial nature will be missed by those he came in contact in daily walks of life.
