Hi Terry, I was going thru a box of photo's from one of my deceased relations and on the back of the photo is the name "baby" Rhea (nickname I have heard for this fellow all of my life)he is in a Navy Uniform from WWII. Do you know this gentleman or have any idea as to who he may be? Also there was a John Rhea that lived across the Road from Sen. Bob Lindsay, Bob's was on the left and John's was on the right after crossing over Rhea bridge going down 4th street to Lovely Bluff or Savage Garden Rd. There's none left cousin, we ate them all at the Presbyterian Church fish fry last summer!!!!! Bill will have to catch us another batch for this year. Barbara, Send me an email, so I can send you some info. I used the one you recently gave the list but it bounced back to me. Thanks Jane Altum Wilson
Anderson County Surnames, Roberts, Slover, Whaley, & Johns are all my Husband's lines. My Lines are Henderson, Patterson, etc. My Henderson's came from VA, KY, TN then to IN, IA and farther West. John W. Henderson was an Indian Fighter :( and his Brother William was a Surveyer. They went west taking many Families with them. Some they married into. What I am trying to get to is that maybe some of these families get connected and can be traced back to wagon trains (which I think of as going out west) but when people moved from VA or Ky to TN, they must have had a group movement for safety sake. Are there records of this?? Maybe we can trace our Ancestors back to their "roots" with this type of information?? Maybe we can connect with other Researchers on this list who know where their Ancesters came from, maybe with the same group movement?? Bettie, John and I are researching the Roberts Family and we know Wesley and Arta Roberts came from NC to Tennessee and ended up in Anderson County. We need to go back to NC and find them but we have no idea where in NC. Wesley Roberts was born abt 1800 and Arta abt.1798 somewhere in NC. I immagine they were married there. But where we don't know. Does anyone on the list have Ancestors who came from NC in the same time frame 1820's to 1840's ?? It might just give us a hint where to start looking! Thanks!! A bunch of Brays from Anderson County moved to Howell County, Missouri shortly after the 1880 census. The aforementioned Adeline Bray married Robert Teasley in 1884 in Howell County. However, I have never been able to find them in a Howell County census. I decided to look again. I found them in 1900 in Arkansas. I found Adaline as a widow in 1910 living back in Howell County. The 1900 census entry was most interesting. Here follows my transcription of the 1900 census entry in question, plus my research notes. I still don't know who Adeline's mother was, but I have all manner of new confusion and obfuscation to consider. Jerry Strawberry Twp, Izard County, Arkansas, 12 Jun 1900 p.375a, HN 114, FN 115 Teasley Robert F. 48 head m m16 w Jul 1852 farmer MO TN TN Adeline 44 wife f m16 w Jan 1856 TN TN TN 6 children, 4 living Mary E. 14 dau f s w May 1886 AR MO TN Roxie F. 6 dau f s w Oct 1893 AR MO TN Effie J. 5 dau f s w Oct 1894 AR MO TN Aultman Ally M. 20 Sdau f s w May 1880 AR TN TN Minerva Adeline Jane (Adeline) Bray was the daughter of my ggg grandfather Edward Payne Bray. Adeline's mother was probably Edward's second wife Martha Patsy Sweet. I am descended from Edward's first wife Anna F. Messamore. So Adeline was probably the half-brother of my gg grandfather Joseph A. (Joe) Bray. However, there is a certain amount of uncertainty concerning Adeline's mother. I have generally listed Anna F. Messamore's date of death as about 1855, although a year or two earlier seems more likely. Edward Payne Bray married Martha Patsy Sweet on 12 Mar 1855 in Anderson County, Tennessee. If Adeline's date of birth in this census entry is correct, then she was born almost exactly nine months after the marriage of Edward Payne Bray and Martha Patsy Sweet. Additional confusion arises because Adeline was not listed in the 1860 census. Rather, in 1860 there was a daughter Jane age 5 for whom there are no other records. The 1870 census lists Minerva A. age 16 and the 1880 census lists Adeline age 24. So if the age of 16 in 1870 was correct, then Adeline was probably born about Jan 1854 and was the daughter of Anna F. Messamore. In this case, Anna must have died either giving birth to Adeline or else she died sometime during the next year, and then Edward Payne Bray married his second wife in March of 1855. If the age of 24 in 1880 was correct, then Adeline was the daughter of Martha Patsy Sweet. I have reluctantly come to the conclusion that the Jane Bray who was 5 years old in 1860 was the same person as the Minerva Adeline Bray who was 16 years old in 1870 and 24 years old in 1880. It's the only thing that makes any sense. Also, it reminds me of my g grandmother Mary Mahala Jane Bray. I have never found a single record for my g grandmother that lists all her names. But I have found all of her names in at least one record, plus my mother assures me that my g grandmother really did have all those names. So if my g grandmother had all those names, why not Adeline? If Adeline was the same person as Jane Bray who was age 5 in 1860, then it has some interesting implications. The most accurate age for a person may usually be found in the earliest record. So if Adeline was 5 years old at the time of the 1860 census, then she was probably born in Jan 1855. That would suggest that Anna F. Messamore died in Jan 1855 giving birth to Adeline, and Edward Payne Bray remarried only three months later. I don't know if that's the most likely scenario, or if we should believe the 1900 census saying that Adeline was born in Jan 1856. There is some degree of mystery associated with Ally M. Aultman. There is every indication that she was Adeline's daughter. Which is to say that Ally was Robert F. Teasley's stepdaughter and Adeline was reported as having four living children. Adeline was married twice. Her first husband was Milton T. Altum, which easily could be a variant spelling of Aultman (or vice versa). The problem is that Adeline was divorced from Milton Altum in 1878 and she did not marry Robert F. Teasley until 1884. So who was Ally Aultman's father given that she was born in 1880?. We also note that Adeline's maiden name was restored by her divorce decree, so if she had an illegitimate child then the child was more likely to have been named Bray than Altum. Nevertheless, we are looking at Ally Aultman likely having been Adeline's daughter. ______________________________ > ATTACHMENT part 3 message/rfc822 Date: Sun, 30 Jan 2005 23:45:55 -0500 From: "Jerry Bryan" To: TNANDERS-L@rootsweb.com Subject: RE: [TNANDERS-L] Yarnell/Bray >I have no dates for Martha Patsy Sweet Bray other >that they were M. abt 1855 I have the marriage date as 12 Mar 1855, although I have only secondary sources for the marriage. I cannot find them in the Anderson County marriage book. I don't know what the primary source was -- possibly a family bible?? Martha was 28 years old in the 1860 census, 38 years old in the 1870 census, and 48 years old in the 1880 census -- born in Tennessee. I would practically kill to have everybody's census ages be that consistent. She was born in Tennessee, daughter of David Sweet and his wife Highly (Hiley would probably be a better spelling). I cannot find her or Edward Payne Bray in the 1900 census. If found, they would probably be in Missouri. >I misplaced my notes from earlier today. What was >Sarah H. Bray's husband's first name? John L. Lewis has and will always be one of my hero's. I can still on occasions see his Photo on the walls of older people in the region. I was having one of those Brain Power Moments when you can't remember what happened 30 minutes ago let along 35 years back. A young fellow that lives next door was asking me questions about the events and I couldn't remember the name of the book or the movie for anything, I could remember "Buddy" who lived around the corner from a cousin on Payne Ave and some of the locals but that was about it. Also one of the Detectives from Cleveland that was working with the FBI on the case fell in Love with Norris Lake and the area so when he retired from the Cleveland P.D. he relocated to the area and purchased the Shanghai Boat Dock. He later sold out and moved off for Florida. Back in the early 1970's an Author wrote a book about some of the exploits of this C.P.D. Homicide Detective and his boss, Pat Joyce and I have been racking my brain trying to remember the title of the book and the writer. I can't remember if he was a Plain Dealer Reporter turned Author but I have checked through Barnes and Noble and can't seem to hit on anything. And the sites from the Libraries in OH want a State ID from OHIO your left leg, right arm and still a resident of the State before they will let you into their sites. SO, I was hoping that I might get lucky and Angela would find an old newspaper clipping that just might mention the Detective and the writer if he was a Plain Dealer reporter. I can remember James Neff but he wrote on organized crime, the Cleveland Wars,Bill and Jackie Presser from the Teamsters. Oh well maybe if I think on it for a few days, weeks or months it will come back to me. John __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Sheriff Rose Kitts of Campbell County, Tenn., said he sold the weapon, a nickel-plated, pearlhandled Smith & Wesson revolver, to a Dr. Lee J. Seargent of Knoxville in 1952. The pistol was stolen from the doctor within the last year. "I'm not supposed to say anything, but there's a good chance the weapon is the same one," the sheriff said in Jacksboro, county seat of Campbell County. Gilly is one of three men indicted Thursday in the killing of Yablonski, shot to death with his wife and their daughter in their Clarksville, Pa., home, Dec. 31. The pistol was fished out of the Monongahela River by Navy scuba divers along with an Ml carbine. Both are undergoing tests by the FBI. According to reports from the scene, Yablonski was shot five times with 38 caliber revolver bullets. His wife was shot twice and his daughter twice, also with .38 caliber bullets. Huddleston and two other men from the La Follette area are staying in Cleveland over the weekend, preparatory lo resuming their secret testimony before the grand jury. Huddleston, who served a prison term for robbery between 1946 and 1949, according to Sheriff Kitts, is a former organizer for District 19 of the UMW, which includes Harlan County, Ky., and Tennessee. Hi Lib, No, I know David Hunter from or use to work for Knox County S.O. and started writing for the Sentinel and doing books so he retired about 1990 from the Knox Co, SO. This book was written long before David ever thought about working at KCSO. It covers a period of time from the 1960's to about 1972. I can't recall the fictitious names he used for Wally and Pat Joyce who was Chief Detective. Richard Faschino from Lake City PD who use to work for Anderson County S.O. has two books out and he took real life stories, all of the people in them he gave fictitious names. Only problem with doing stuff like that is years down the road you can't separate whats real and whats fantasy and you will have them mixed in together if you can even think about them to mix them up,LOL! She married Robert Minnafe Yarnell, probable grandson of Joel Yarnell and Jemima Conner. Jerry Bryan
Hi Gerald, This is very true nothing should be judged by the actions of a few but the majority of us HUMANS still do! Yahoo! Thanks for that about the snakes. You said it a lot better than me. I would have made a door real fast by my body making one. This year and the first time since I've lived in Idaho 24 years we had spiders all over this house and this one spider was so fast by the time I would have something in my hand to kill it it would be gone. I guess I killed 10 or more. They were gutting out the house next door and I thought the spiders wanted a new home. come to find out & thanks to Jane Altum Wilson, I learned they were recluse & hobo spiders. I was so mad I was stepping on them during the night (bare feet). I learned they were moving in from Oregon & Washington so look out Tennessee you might be next. Wonder if I will sleep tonight ( smile) Nite, Phyllis
>>Descendant List of Edward Payne Bray >>------------------------------------------------------------------------------- >>1-Edward Payne Bray (1812-aft 1880) >>+Anna F.
