    3. Hi Angela, I have folks with names of all those listed but not the correct individuals for the story. Maybe someone out there knows who all of these belonged to and will share the information. Same goes for the marriage of Robert M. Lindsay and the Briceville School bus incident. Keep up the Great Work I fully enjoy these old news articles. 1. Robert Lindsay/C.M. Moore
    2. ALL FAIR IN LOVE The Defeated Rival Acts as Best Man at the Wedding, According to Agreement When the morning express arrived from Cincinnati at Briceville, Tenn, the other day, there were as passengers Robert M. Lindsay and bride, nee Miss Nellie Girton of Camp Hageman, O. Mr. Lindsay is one of the largest coal operators of that section of Tennessee, and his arrival with a wife was a very happy surprise to his friends. Around their wedding is woven, a romance rather out of the usual run of such affairs. their wedding is woven, a romance rather out of the usual run of such affairs. About a year ago C. M. Moore, also of Briceville. visited the Normal university at Lebanon, O., and by accident met Miss Girton and fell in love with her. Moore and Lindsay were bosom friends, and when the former returned to this place he confided to Lindsay the details of his Ohio visit. In a joking way Lindsay vowed that he would win Miss Girton away from Moore, and the latter, with true southern chivalry, assured him that the contest should be fraught with none save the kindliest of feelings, and that the unsuccessful suitor should be the best man at the wedding. Soon thereafter Lindsay addressed a letter to the lady in question. A correspondence soon sprang up, and in the fall Lindsay, after an exchange of photographs, begged the privilege of calling upon Miss Girton at her home. The latter referred his request to her father, a G. A. R. veteran, who communicated with Tennessee comrades to ascertain what kind of a man Lindsay was. In due course of time the father was informed that the gentleman was all that could be desired in the way of a son-in law, and when Yuletide was at hand the southerner was pressing his suit with Miss Girton. When he returned at the close of the holidays, he served notice upon Moore that it was the expressed wish of Miss Girton and himself that he should be the best man at their wedding in May. The unsuccessful rival lived up to his bargain. - Cincinnati Commercial Gazette Evening News, Lincoln, Nebraska, June 8, 1895

    1. Peters, Cates, Fox
    2. Speers Young Man and Pretty Tennessee Widow Not to be Married Now Wednesday a marriage license was issued to Samuel Fox, a well known young man of Speers, and Mrs. Ida Peters a widow of 22 summers, formerly of the Speers section, but for some time residing at Briceville, Tenn. Friday the license came back unused, indicating a change of heart somewhere, says the Washington Observer. The wedding it is understood, is off for good, and Mrs. Peters and her mother, Mrs. William Cates have returned to Tennessee. What caused the break between young Fox and Mrs. Peters is not known. The young man seemed much pleased on Wednesday when he secured the license. Friday the license was returned by a man coming over to Washington from Speers it being handed to him by Mr. Fox as the man took the car for Washington. Mrs. Peters, with her mother, went to Tennessee several months ago. It was there that the young woman was married to a man by the name of Peters. He was killed in the Briceville mine disaster several weeks ago. The young widow and her child and her mother came to Speers several weeks ago on a visit. She and Mr. Fox became friends, the friendship developed fast, and an engagement followed. The marriage was arranged for the license was secured, but the proposed voyage over the matrimonial sea was not begun. Charleroi Mail, Charleroi, Pennsylvania; July 27, 1912

    1. Obadiah Wood Family
    2. I am researching the family of Obadiah Wood. He's listed in the 1830 Census of Anderson Co., TN and eventually moved to Marion Co., AR with several of his children. I'm looking for any information on his wife's name as well as who his parents might be. He was a Rev War Soldier serving from Wake Co., NC and moving first to Knox Co., TN, then to Anderson Co., TN where he supposedly owned some land on the Clinch River. If anyone knows anything else about this family, I would appreciate it. I do have info to share about his family once they got to Marion Co., AR, but need to fill in the gaps. I think it's possible that one of his sons, George W Wood, left Anderson Co., TN, went to Pope Co., IL, then on to Marion Co., AR. Thanks! Barb Price

    3. John: Are those pictures of Frank and Emily Queener Cox? I would love to see them. The reason I ask, the Cox family and my family were neighbors side by side on Moore Street in Clinton, before they changed the street to a four lane. My family lived there many years beside them, I would say I was about 18 years, that was long ago, not that young now. Frank and Emily were very nice folks. They moved, but I never did know where they moved until I saw her obituary. Their son-in-law was a coach at Clinton High School when I went there? Would have an obituary for Frank Cox?
