Does anyone know what the H stands for in Richard H. Scarbrough? He was born in 1852, I think Tennessee. Father of Lula Grace Scarbrough. Thanks in advance. Jeremy
Hi Jeremy: Drivers here in East TN surely were influenced by you Northerners. <gg> The current fad here is to go through the red light because you were (1) in a hurry and the lights aren't timed right anyway, (2) it turned yellow when you were 100 feet away and that was too close to stop, (3) "it's my turn to go and I'm not waiting through a light", and (4) so, sue me! Saw two wrecks this week already where folks just ran the light. I'm afraid future genealogist will find many early deaths due to traffic accidents when they research this century. Good to see you online and hope you've found some new folks to add to your line. ----- Original Message ----- From: Jeremy Carter To: TNANDERS-L@rootsweb.com Sent: Wednesday, March 09, 2005 5:46 PM Subject: Re: [TNANDERS-L] Re: Cuzn John I agree with the bad Northern drivers statement. Jeremy, Amen!! Now they want Truck Drivers to work 16 hours a day!! I won't drive anywhere near Detroit or Ann Arbor because the trucks mow you down or driver's don't know what 70 miles an hour means!! Carolyn Whaley
I agree with the bad Northern drivers statement. For anyone near Detroit, you know what I mean. Jeremy
Hey Jim, Ain't nothing like the 50's anywhere, anymore. Things have changed so much since 1955. I saw on the News today where one of the States oldest citizens passed away, she was 106 years of age having been born in 1899 just think of all of the changes she saw over her lifetime. Talking about mail getting mixed up between Jacksboro,TX and Jacksboro,TN I still get mail that has been sent to Lake City, SC or Lake City,FL before it arrives to my P O Box in Lake City,TN. I thought that the zip codes was supposed to correct this situation or at least thats what we were told when we had to start adding these numbers to our mail? Hi Shirley, It sure is a mess ain't it. The Politicians are going to have to get another road going through the area. One way in and one way out was okay back in the 50's but with the kind of traffic we have on the roads anymore we need another road through LaFollette, Jacksboro and Caryville. I feel sorry for folks that live in Jellico and have to work in Anderson or Knox County. John __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Hey Carolyn, Speed limit is 70 so that means they run about 90 thats about average speed anymore. Heck its 40 MPH through town here and at times if you just run 55 you have people all over your rear end. And now with I-75 South Bound closed the ride through town can now take about 45 minutes especially if schools are letting out. Also if any of y'all are coming home over the Easter Weekend or this weekend when you get off in Jelico don't come down 25W. Make a right turn and go over to Route 297 this is the old road that takes you down the old mining road thru royal blue and the flat woods you will come out down by Shoney's in Caryville. You will see some pretty country side and save a lot of time. I have heard of it taking folks up to 3 hours to get from Jelico to LaFollette on 25W. The scenery down 25W is also nice but with gas at 2 dollars a gallon you just might want to go the other way. John __________________________________ Celebrate Yahoo!'s 10th Birthday! Yahoo! Hey Jeremy, Folks from Detroit would come over to the Greater Cleveland,OH area back in the 1970's and try to run me over as they went to Seaworld and Geauga Lake Park,LOL! Worse place I ever tried driving at was near Augusta,GA back when I was in the Army. Off post the famous strip known as Tobacco Road was a real feat to drive down without getting sideswiped, rear-ended or someone cutting in front of you to make a right hand turn with their left signal light on. Hi Libby, I was just joking with you. I knew what you meant and yes I had heard that story. Also how about the big truck wreck and a bunch of frozen turkeys and meats were all over everyplace and people were running around grabbing the stuff like kids grabbing up jacks. And yes those NORTHERN DRIVERS can be a pain at times. I always say there is a big difference when all you have to worry about is sliding off the road into a flat yard but its a whole different ballgame when you don't stop until you have dropped about 700 feet straight down from the shoulder of the roadway. Its not the drop off that gets you but the sudden stop at the bottem, John __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! Hi Libby, I know I discussed that story a time or two with him I do believe. That is a traffic cops worst nightmare being ran over by an intoxicated driver, a star-gazer or a sight seer. What makes it bad is when someone hits you then backs over you to see what they did. John __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! John: I really can type the right words, occasionally. I meant to say that when Daddy got hit twice on I-75 in one day, that it was the time we had that huge ice and snow storm, I think back in about 1970. He wasn't up there just trying get people to not use the interstate like it sounded!!! LOL He and the other patrolmen were trying to bring everyone off in one lane, and a couple of "northern" drivers, from two states I won't mention, decided they knew how to drive better in the ice than the officers, and pulled out and passed the whole line, going down Pine Mtn. They were out of control heading down the mountain, went to changing ends, and hit Daddy, who was standing beside his patrol car. Fortunately, Daddy managed to dive into the Patrol car when he saw the idiot coming. It knocked his boots off and broke his foot, and then he got hit again later on that same day, in the same way. Two patrol cars trashed in one day!!! Not to mention poor Daddy. Libby
I purchased my book--Mother's Blood, before Christmas in Lake City at the Big John's Market in town.
That was a bad choice of words on my part, John!!! I know too, Daddy had a few of his Highway Patrol comrades injured in the same way, and he was knocked off I-75 twice in one day, while trying to get everyone off Pine Mtn. safely. The second time, he was standing there in a cast on his foot from the first hit a few hours before!! He was a tough fellow!!
