Mrs. McWright was born Dec. 20, 1918, in Harriman to the late Elmer and Rose Dickey Weaver. A member of the West Village Christian Church, Mrs. McWright had been employed at Y-12 as a laboratory technician until her retirement. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, and was a member of the Eastern Star Chapter 390 here in Oak Ridge. Preceded in death by her first husband Woodrow Litton, son Gary W. Litton, and her brother Sam E. Hope, Mrs. McWright is survived by her husband, Cullen P. McWright of Oak Ridge; son, Douglas L. Litton of Marshville, N.C.; stepdaughters, Mary Jane Williams of Oak Ridge and Barbara Pruitt of Newark, Del.; brothers, Charles J. Hope of Oak Ridge and B.F. Hope Jr. of Harriman; sisters, Mildred Eitel of West Palm Beach, Fla., Virginia Graham of Jacksonville, Fla., Clara J. Lucile Nichols, our beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother and friend, died July 8, 2007, on her 89th birthday from injuries received in an automobile accident on June 27, 2007. She was born in McMinn County and grew up in Knox County where she met the love of her life, Ray Nichols. They celebrated 73 years of marriage Oct. 28, 2006, and were recognized as the oldest living married couple in Monroe County. Lucile was preceded in death by infant son, James Richard Nichols; parents, Charles and Grace Webb of Kodak; brothers, Roy, Ray, and Earl Webb of Knoxville; and sister, Viola Webb of Athens. Lucile is survived by husband, Ray Nichols of Sweetwater; daughter and son-in-law, Erb and Frances Mowery of Clinton; sons and daughters-in-law, Bobby and Anita Nichols of Knoxville, and Ted and Ruth Nichols of Sweetwater. Lucile was a member of Fairview Baptist Church for 56 years and dearly loved her church family. One of Lucile's greatest joys was cooking for her family. Lucile was a master quilter who quilted wedding and baby quilts for every child, grandchild, great-grandchild and great-great-grandchild. She enjoyed gardening, both vegetable and flower, but loved her roses. Most of all, she loved her family, and they all knew it. He was born in Anderson County, (Clinton) Tenn., the son of the late Earl Plumley and Ruby Slover Clough. He attended schools in Anderson County. He was employed by the Civil Service in Washington, D.C., and in 1942 he became associated with elevator maintenance and later was in the elevator construction business with Westinghouse, Otis, and Homer Elevator companies. He returned to Memphis in 1976. He later worked for Guardsmark, retiring in 1985, and moving to Erin, Tenn. He moved to Henderson, Tenn., in 1995. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Henderson. He is survived by a son, Michael Earl Clough and his wife, Judy, of Collierville, Tenn.; a daughter, Diane Eulene Manns of Walls, Miss.; a grandson, Brian Manns; and a brother, C.R. He enjoyed fishing, detailing cars, making music and, most of all, cooking and hanging out with his family and friends. Bonnie Clark Dunkel died on July 7, 2007, at her residence in Rancho Viejo. Born April 20, 1932, in Springfield, Tennessee, Bonnie grew up in Oak Ridge. She was a graduate of Oak Ridge High School and attended the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. She remained in Oak Ridge until 1973, when she moved to Columbus, Ohio, as a manufacturers representative with Golan and Sinton Inc. In November 1973, she married John Dunkel of Upper Arlington, Ohio, where they resided until retirement in 1990 to Rancho Viejo, in the Rio Grande Valley near Brownsville. Bonnie loved to travel and had seen most, if not all, of the world. She was a patron of the arts and a long standing supporter of Columbus theater. The family received friends at the home. Mrs. Kiker was born May 14, 1922, in Monticello, Mo. She was the daughter of the late Albin Lawrence Larson and the late Jenny Cooley Larson. She was a floral designer for many years and was a former member of Glenwood Baptist Church in Oak Ridge, Tenn., where she served as Sunday School teacher and superintendent, WMU president, and circle leader. After retiring in 1982, she and her husband moved to Americus, Ga., and joined Central Baptist Church. Survivors include one daughter, Gay Kiker Smith of Americus, Ga.; one son, Jack Kiker of San Francisco, Calif.; a granddaughter, Leslie Smith Reese and husband, Dean, of Leesburg; one sister, Glenice Larson Terry of Americus; a niece, Carol Kiker Townsend of Americus; and two great-grandchildren, Braden and Carley Reese of Leesburg. Also surviving are a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ned Jackson Kiker Sr. in 1983. Melton, age 77, a resident of Oliver Springs, passed away Saturday, July 7, 2007, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. Mr. Melton served his country in the U.S. Army in the 101st Cavalry during the Korean War. During his career, Mr. Melton had worked as a photographer for the Atomic Energy Commission, as a photographer for the ski lodge in Gatlinburg, and as a manager with Service Merchandise in the camera department. He retired from the McCrory Co. after serving as store manager in Jellico, Tenn.; Bluefield, W. Va.; and Boone and Greensboro, N.C. After his retirement he worked part time in the photo lab at the Oak Ridge Wal-Mart. His parents, Roy and Elizabeth Melton of Powell, preceded him in death. Mr. Melton is survived by his wife of 27 years, Becky. Robert served in the U.S. Air Force from 1952 to 1956. He took academic degrees at Gogebic Community College, Ironwood, Mich.; Stephen F. Austin University, Nacogdoches, Texas; and Texas A & M University, College Station, Texas. He joined the Atomic Energy Commission in August 1961 and worked with the Technical Information Group in Washington, D.C., and then OSTI in Oak Ridge, Tenn. Afte r retiring in May 1982, he worked as a consulting nuclear licensing engineer at several nuclear stations in Arizona, Missouri, New York, Illinois, Tennessee and South Carolina. He was born Dec. 29, 1932, in Middletown, Ohio, the son of James Robert Weir Sr., and Kathleen Lawson Weir. He is survived by five sons, James Robert III, David Jeffrey, Joseph Todd, Patrick Allen and Scott Anthony, who love and miss him. He is also survived by two sisters, Judy Weir Goode and Kathy Weir Dickey. Mr. Weir worked at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory for 39 years until his retirement in 1994. The last 20 years, he served as associate director and director of the Metals and Ceramics Division. During his tenure, he was the recipient of the E. O. Lawrence Award. He earned his bachelor's degree in 1955 in Metallurgical Engineering from the University of Cincinnati and his master's from the University of Tennessee in 1962. Mr. Weir was an avid sailor for 40-plus years. He was a member and past Commodore of the Concord Yacht Club and successfully competed in numerous regattas in many classes of boats throughout the southeast region. He was also instrumental in the early development of the sailing education programs at the Club. Mr. Weir enjoyed acting with the Oak Ridge Community Playhouse and he was an avid singer with barbershop quartets in younger years. In keeping with Mr. Weir's wishes, he was cremated. Sheila was born Jan. 22, 1960, in Asheville, North Carolina. She moved to Oliver Springs in 1978. She was a energetic lady who lived life to its fullest. Her hobbies included shopping, shopping, and shopping. She worked as a customer service agent for Whirlpool Inc. In addition, she also was employed as a teacher's assistant at the Norwood school. Sheila was a member of Oliver Springs Community Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Isaac Mayton and Helen Lucille Kimblin Mayton, and by a brother, Danny Mayton. She and her daughter, Sarah Craven, operated Gordon's Disc-0-Tape in French's Plaza from July 1, 1969 until July 3, 1982, where they sold records, 8-track tapes, black lights, and black light posters. Many of her customers became life-long friends. Vivian was a master seamstress and loved to crochet items for all her family and friends. One of her favorite things to do was shop with her daughters. She is survived by her children, Sarah Darnell Craven, Jimmie Darnell Griffin, Judie Gordon Henegar, and John "Buzz" Gordon; sons-in-law and daughter-in-law, Paul Craven, Ted Griffin, Allen Henegar, and Cindi Gordon; sister, Jane Flanders; and brothers, Archie D. She sadly passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, June 30, 2007. Mrs. Kelly was married to Jesse Lee Kelly. She confessed Christ at an early age and united with Oak Valley Baptist Church under the leadership of the Reverends Simms and McKinnon. She was a graduate of Knoxville College and served for over 30 years as a social worker with the state of Tennessee. She left her mark on all of East Tennessee by uniting children with loving families. In addition, she was a volunteer counselor with Contact Helpline, served on the Youth Haven board of directors, and served with numerous other charity and youth organizations. She enjoyed spending time with friends and family, helping those in need, and participating in Church of Christ ladies retreats. Mrs. Kelly was preceded in death by her father, John Blackman; father-in-law, Dave Washington; brothers, Jesse Phillips and James Horton; sister, Mattie Turner; several uncles: Allen, Bill, Tom, and Paul Barnett and James Meadows; and daughter, Cynthia. Mr. Hobgood served our country for 26 years in the U.S. Air Force, including two tours in Vietnam. After retiring from the military, he worked for 20 years in security. He was probably best known for being named All-American when he graduated from Oak Ridge High School in 1952. He was an outstanding full-back. He went on to play at Auburn and Memphis State. No matter where Jim lived or worked he considered Tennessee home and was a true Tennessee fan. He retired from Union Carbide after 35 years of service. Jim was also an entrepreneur. He started up several area businesses over the years. He was an avid sports enthusiast and really enjoyed playing golf and fishing. Jim also loved traveling to Arizona where his daughters and grandchildren lived. He was preceded in death by his father, Carl Shelton; his step-father, Kirby Duke; his mother, Eleanor Duke; and his brother, Tom Shelton. Survivors include his eldest daughter, Jamia Jenkins, and fiance, Scott Renshaw, and granddaughter, Kendall Lowery of Arizona; grandson, Desmond Holt of Florida; youngest daughter, Leslie Webb, and son-in-law, Scott Webb, and grandsons, Garrett and Delaney Harbin of Arizona. Eubank, age 73, of Newport, Tenn., passed away Monday evening, June 25, 2007, at Baptist Hospital of Cocke County. He was a descendant of Frederick and James Swagerty of Cocke County, ancestral members of the first families of Tennessee. George came to Oak Ridge in 1945 with his parents and family. He attended the Oak Ridge Schools, and graduated in 1951 at the newly completed Oak Ridge High School. George was a member of the ORHS "Wildcat" Band. He played trumpet in a local dance band known as the Rhythm-aires. He was a member of the ORHS National Honor Society. He was a member of the ORHS Track Team, competing in the pole vaulting events. George graduated in 1955 from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He was a member of the UT Pride of the Southland Band. During his junior year, George was president of his Delta Sigma Phi fraternity. Completing the ROTC course at UT, upon graduation he was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant and served with the Army Corps of Engineers, stationed at New Rouchelle, France. He was married in 1955 to Miss Beatrice Schilz of Arlington, Va. George worked for Boeing Aircraft in Seattle, Wash., during the late 1950s and early 1960s. From the mid-1960s until his retirement in the 1990s, George was with the Forenta Corporation, and its subsidiary Norco, Inc. located in Morristown, Tenn. During his time with Forenta, he was a member of the Toastmasters Association. He was preceded in death by his son, Jeffrey Arleigh Eubank; parents, William Arleigh and Bonnie K. Eubank; and brother, William Mims Eubank. Powell, age 84, of Clinton and a member of the Clinton Church of God, passed away Monday, July 2, 2007, at Windwood Health Care Center. She was born Sept. 10, 1922, in Owensboro, Ky., and was the daughter of the late Augustine and Minnie Nugent Powell. During Dorothy's life she won first place at the Kentucky State Track Championship in 1935 and her award was a free trip to the White House where she met the 32nd President, Franklin D. Roosevelt. Dorothy was a veteran of the U.S. Navy for five years and spent two years working for the Southern Pacific Railroad in Portland, Ore. She was a lifetime member of the Radio CB Club in Hawaii and Alaska. She also enjoyed motorcycle riding and hunting. In 1978, she became a chartered member of the McGhee Tyson Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol and transferred to the Oak Ridge Squadron in 1988. One of her last accomplishments in life was she attained the rank of Lt. Col. in the Civil Air Patrol in 1992. Dorothy was preceded in death by a sister, Sylvia Champion. Survivors include her special friends, Susan and Kenny Byrd of Clinton, Lt. Col. Rick Grindstaff, CAP of Knoxville; and a host of other cousins and friends. PIGEON, ROBERT FRANCES - age 73, went to be with the Lord on Monday, July 2, 2007 at St. Mary's Hospice in Knoxville, Tennessee, with loving wife Peggy by his side. They had shared 24 years of marriage together. He was born on September 29, 1934 in Oconto, WI. and was raised in Ontonagon, MI. and was the son of the late Francis C. Pigeon and Ilse E. Schluenz. Robert served in the US Air Force from 1952-1956. He took academic degrees at Gogebic Community College, Ironwood, MI., Stephen F. Austin University, Nacogdoches, TX., and Texas A & M University, College Station, TX. He joined the Atomic Energy Commission in August 1961 and worked with the Technical Information Group in Washington, DC. and then OSTI in Oak Ridge, TN. He retired on May 27, 1982. For the next several years, he worked as a consulting Nuclear Licensing Engineer at several nuclear stations in AZ., MO., NY., IL., TN. and SC. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Clinton, the Pellissippi Genealogical and Historical Society and the National Rifle Association. Besides his wife, he is survived by daughters: Elizabeth M. (Darren) Morgan of Walkersville, MD., Shannon B. (Patrick) O'Grady of Colorado Springs, CO., and Heather F. (William) White of Smyrna, TN..; stepchildren: Kimberly A. (Steve) Hatfield of Lewis Center, OH., Ruby D. Faulkner of Oak Ridge, TN., and Samuel D. Angela, My Mama says Dr. Dings was the coal co. doctor. The Co. hired him to be and took a dollar out of the miner's pay. He treated the entire family. He came to Laurel Grove for Mama when I was born. My impression was that he could still treat anyone else, not just miner's. Edna
