He was a member of Main Street Baptist Church, Lake City. Mr. Viles retired from Ford Motor Co., Chicago and was a member of UAW Local No.551. Born Nov.22, 1919, in Anderson County. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.Preceded in death by parents, John Ross and Amanda Massengill Viles, brothers, Bill Viles, Clyde David Viles and Millard Viles. Survivors: wife of 48 years, Barbara L. Reed Viles of Lake City, son and daughter-in-law, Larrie Franklin and Pat Viles of Chicago., granddaughter, Charline Lynn Gattardo of Chicago, and a sister, Lillie Butcher. Family received friends 6-9 p.m. Monday, Sept.2, in Cox Funeral Home, Lake City. Graveside service was 2 p.m. Tuesday Sept.3, in Oak Grove Cemetery, Lake City.

    3. Clinton Courier March 12, 1970 Bolton Son Of Former Sheriff Dies Claude Bolton, 46, of 120 Lancing Rd, Oak Ridge, son of the late L.W. Bolton, Anderson County Sheriff from 1944 to 1946, died at 9:45 p.m. Friday at Oak Ridge Hospital. He had been in the hospital only one day. Bolton went to school in Knoxville before the family moved to Campbell County and then Anderson County and he was still a member of Black Oak Heights Baptist Church in Knoxville. At the time of this death he had been for 25 years a member of Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 102 in Knoxville. Services were held at 2 p.m. Monday at Martin's Chapel in Clinton with the Rev. Jimmy Riner officiating. Burial was in Foust Cemetery. He leaves his wife, Mrs. Daphine Vowell Bolton, three daughters, Mrs. Beverly Brown of Atlanta, Mrs. Kay Ashe of Knoxville, and Miss. Judy Bolton of Oak Ridge, mother, Mrs. L.W. Bolton of South Clinton on Ridgeview Drive, six brothers, Warren Bolton of Knoxville, John Bolton, L.W. Bolton Jr., Farnk, Jimmy Bolton and David Bolton, all of Manassas,Va., two sisters, Mrs. Alleen Wise and Mrs. Betty Chihocky, both of Manassas,Va.

Clinton Courier March 12, 1970 Oliver Springs Mother Of Eight Daughters Dies The mother of eight daughters, Mrs. Nina Edith Dagley, of Oliver Springs died at 3:45 a.m Wednesday at Oak Ridge Hospital after a long illness. She was 78 years old. Mrs. Dagley lived with one of her daughters, Miss. Sue Dagley, and a granddaughter.She was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church at Coalfield. The family will receive friends Friday night at Sharp's Funeral Home in Oliver Springs.Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Petros Baptist Church with the Rev. Larry E. Duke and the Rev.Harold Ellis officiating. The body will lie in state one hour at the church before the services begin. In addition to Miss.Dagley, she leaves seven other daughters, Mrs. Velma Daugherty, Mrs. Imogene Russell and Mrs. Betty Delozier, all of Oliver Springs,Mrs. Ethelyn Daugherty and Mrs. Kathleen Colston, both of Dayton,O.,Mrs. Georgia Eastridge of Coalfield, and Mrs. Nila Brown of Harriman, 32 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren.

Clinton Courier Oct.13, 1988 Lester Boyd Smith Lester Boyd Smith, 51, of 194 Hillside Road, Oak Ridge, died at 11:05 a.m. Oct. 3 at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge after a long battle with lung cancer. Smith had been retired for seven years from the Air Force after 22 years. He had three daughters, Cindy McKamey of Clinton Rt.3, Sharom Smith of Lake City, and Lori Smith of Florida, two grandchildren, Trish and Joshua Mckamey. The Funeral was held Oct. 5 in the chapel of Weatherford Mortuary with David Schonhoff, minister of Highland View Church of Christ officiating. Burial was in the Church of Christ Cemetery in Blue Ridge, Ga.

Clinton Courier Oct.13, 1988 Nora Posey Phillips Nora Posey Phillips, 87, an Anderson County school teacher for many years, died Friday, Oct. 7 at Methodist Medical Center.An Oneida native, she was the daughter of the late, Farrell and Eliza Posey. She had lived on Old Clear Branch Road since 1946 and had also lived in Campbell County. Phillips taught at Medford Elementary for 15 years and retired 1965. She had taught for 35 years with part of this time spent in Scott County schools. She received her education at Johnson City State Teachers College. She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association and was a charter member of East Jacksboro Baptist Church. Phillips was married to the Rev. D.L. Phillips in 1923 in Oneida. He died in 1975. A daughter said she enjoyed flower gardening, making quilts and needlework and that her reading was very important to her. Two brother, Amos and Ben Posey also preceded her in death. Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Gladys Carden of Lake City, Fleda and Donald Lovely of Warren, Mich. , Beulah and Scotty Gray of Redford, Mich., sons and daughters-in-law, Lemuel Edison and Beulah Phillips of Mt. Clemens,Mich., Glenn E. and Loretta Phillips of Lake City, sisters, Gertrude Bridges, Bronston, Ky., Ollie Babb of Oneida,Opal Chitwood of Huntsville, and a brother, Kermit Posey of Huntsville, 15 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren. Funeral serviceswere held Monday at Helenwood Baptist Church with the Rev. Everett Gaylor and the Rev. Roger Cecil officiating. Burial was in Daniel Memorial Cemetery. Clinton Courier March 12, 1970 Leaves Infant Daughter 16-Year-Old Night Club Singer Killed In Wreck Near Clinton A young nightclub singer was killed instantly at 1 a.m Saturday when her friend's car left Oak Ridge Highway (State 61) a tenth of a mile east of Clinton city limits and crashed into a rock embankment. Mrs. Teresa Ann Huckaby Bracken, 16, of 814 Hill St. in Clinton, was crushed to death when the 1965 Corvair slammed against the rocks. The driver, Blair Echnoz, 22, of 315 West Board St. in Clinton, suffered a fractured right leg and punctured lungs. He was in fair condition in the intensive care unit at Oak Ridge Hospital. Mrs. Bracken was the mother of a 6 month-old daughter, Stephanie Lynn Bracken. The young mother had sung Friday night with the Playmates at the Amvets Post No.2 in Oak Ridge and was enroute home to Clinton, relatives said. Mrs. Bracken was living apart from her husband, Daniel E. Bracken of Oak Ridge, and a divorce suit had been filed in Anderson County but had not been heard, court records show. She was married at 14. In addition to night club singing Mrs. Bracken was a clerk for Clinton Roofers in South Clinton.She also was preparing to cut a record with another band. The Details, on a Consolidated Artists label. Friends said she had sung county blues since she was a child. Echnoz had just returned from the Army in Vietnam and works with John Cole Construction Co. in Clinton. He lives with his mother, Mrs. Clara Echnoz, at 315 Broad St. State Trooper David E. Davenport said Echnoz was driving east toward Clinton when he lost control of his car, struck a guard rail on the right, traveled 238 feet, crossed the highway and crashed into the rock enbankment on the left side of the highway.The car was demolished. The trooper said Echnoz was traveling at a high rate of speed. Mrs. Bracken was killed at the same location at which four person, three of whom were Morgan County sisters, were killed Aug. 5, 1969. The Clinch River is on one side of the Highway 61 and the steep rock enbankment is on the other. The trooper said Mrs. Bracken and Echnoz were alone. The accident was witnessed by Ronnie Hensley of Norris who was behind the Echnoz car, the officer said. Mrs. Bracken attended Clinton Senior High until she dropped out in late 1968 to get married, relatives said. She was born in Lake City and was adopted and raised by her grandmother, Mrs. Sylvia Huckaby. Since she left her husband, Mrs. Bracken had been living with her mother, grandmother and great-grandmother in Clinton. Mrs. Bracken is survived by her mother, Mrs. Shirley Braden Willis Parton, grandmother, Mrs. Huckaby and great-grandmother, Mrs. Margaret Stocks, all of Clinton, father, Floyd Braden Jr. of Lake City, and several half- sisters and brothers. Mrs. Bracken was a member of Big Creek Baptist Church at Lafollette but attended North Clinton Baptist Church. Services were held at 3:30 p.m. Monday in the chapel of Martin Funeral Home in Clinton with the Rev. R.L. Lovette officiating.The Playmates and The Details served as pallbearers. Burial was in Anderson Memorial Gardens on Highway 61 west of Clinton.
