The baby was was born prematurely on Sept.8. Beside the parents, survivors are grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Silcox and Ed Woods of the Dutch Valley community, Clinton Rt.5, and great-grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. W.F. Baker of Clinton, Rt.1.Services were held at Poplar Creek Cemetery with the Rev.W. D. Barnett officiating.

Clinton Courier Sept. 14, 1972 Death Claims L.D. Ward, 73 L.D. Ward, 73, a retired blacksmith formerly of Anderson County, died Wednesday at Oak Ridge Hospital. Although he was here about a month prior to his death, his home had been at Decatur for some time. He and his wife, the former Sally Patterson, were living there when she died about a year ago. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Indian Bluff Baptist Church with the Rev. Edwin Phillips and the Rev. Guy Lively officiating. Burial will be in Indian Bluff Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday night at Martin Funeral home in Lake City.

Mrs Wallace, a member of First Baptist Church in Clinton, taught Sunday school until 1985. She was an honorary member of Delta Beta chapter of Beta Sigma Phi, a member of Delta Kappa Gamma sorority, and the Anderson County Retired Teachers Association and served as president of the Clinton unit twice and of the Anderson County Council in 1951. She became a life member in 1956. She was named Teacher of the Year in 1962 at Dutch Valley School. A son, Homer Houston Wallace Jr, died Jan 24, 1947. Mrs Kendig is survived by three daughters; Annette Piper and her husband, Charlie, of Concord, NC, Barbara Young and her husband, Larry, of Oak Ridge and Brenda Pickens and her husband, Earle, of Gainesville, FL; her son, Franklin Kendig and his wife, Judy, of Honolulu, Hawaii; one brother, McKinley Braden Jr and his wife. Mildred, of Knoxville; and two sisters, Audrey Livingston and her husband, Bob, of Powell and Jeanette Dake and her husband, Don, of Nashville. She is also survived by six grandchildren; Julie Poole of King, NC, Karen Pearson of Concord, NC, Leigh Monger of Oak Ridge, Keith Young of Knoxville and David Pickens and Dr Brian Pickens, both of Gainesville; seven great-grandchildren, Brian Poole and Taylor Poole, both of King, Katie Pearson, Kelsey Pearson and Kristen Pearson, all of Concord, and Steven Monger and Merritt Monger, both of Oak Ridge; and numerous nieces and nephews, to whom she was known as "Aunt Violet."
