Just my 2 cents & for what it's worth; my belief Samuel Taylor & Rachel Phillips only had 6 children but there are 7 depicted in 1870? They were married Jan 01, 1850 Anderson Co, TN. 1870 Anderson Co, TN Census Records Rachel Taylor 41 TN *** Sallie 18 John 17 Betsy J 15 Mary F 14 Samuel 12 William J 9 Henry C 3 (possible son of Sallie's) ??? ***** Uncertain if the following marriage is Sallie Taylor? Anderson Co, TN Marriage Records W W Walker to Sarah Taylor Dec 6, 1870 Didn't locate a divorce for W W Walker & Sarah Sallie Taylor? Maybe she was deceased by 1880? Didn't locate a Sarah Taylor in 1880? 1870 Anderson Co, TN Census Records James E Walker 67 VA Mary A 56 TN Amey F 24 William W 20 *** Thomas M 17 Nancy M 3 1880 Anderson Co, TN Marriage Census Records James Butler 29 Laura 30 m/1/yr William Walker 28 bro/law *** ***** I'm really confused here; Sam Taylor or whoever gave the information depicted Nancy J Daugherty as his sister in the 1900 Census Records? Sam was born Feb 1859 & Nancy J wasn't born until Feb 1871, 12 years after his birth. His mother Rachel Phillips Taylor was born 1828? It appears to me it would be more likely Nancy J Daugherty (married to Elijah Daugherty Feb 10, 1890) would be the dau of John Taylor, Sam's brother??? If she indeed is Sam's sister Rachel would have been abt 43 years old & Nancy would be illegitimate? DEPENDING ON WHO GAVE THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION in 1880 RACHEL OR HER SON JOHN?? Sam in 1870 can't be the same Sam appearing in 1880? John Taylor m Mary C Braden Mar 21, 1879 Anderson Co, TN. Some of these children (4) were probably born prior to their marriage? I don't believe John was ever married to an Elizabeth or a Rachel??? Someone has given incorrect information. Rachel was the g/m of these children & I can account for her being named as a mother but Elizabeth Braden I believed was confused w/ Mary C Braden? 1880 Anderson Co, TN Census Records Rachiel Taylor 50 wd TN John 28 son Mary C 26 dau *** She's depicted as dau but I believe it should be dau/law*** ? Jack 19 son (Rachel's son depicted as William J in 1870) 1)Sarah B 2 dau (Maybe a dau of Mary C Braden prior to marriage to John Taylor) ??? Sallie Belle Braden Taylor 2)Mary E 5 g/dau (John & Mary C Braden's dau) 3)Henry B 6 son (Maybe a son of Mary C Braden prior to marriage to John Taylor) ??? 4)Samuel W 3 son (John & Mary C Braden's son) He was prob named for John's bro Samuel) 5)Nancy 7 dau (Maybe a dau of Mary C Braden prior to marriage to John Taylor) ??? IN THE FOLLOWING CENSUS 1900 RACHEL IS DEPICTED AS HAVING 6 CHILDREN 2 LIVING. IN MY OPINION JOHN & SAM ARE THE ONLY 2 CHILDREN SHE HAS LIVING? SO NANCY LIVING W/ SAM CAN'T BE RACHEL'S DAU??? 1900 Anderson Co, TN Census Records RACHEL TAYLOR 72 Mar 1828 wid 6/chi/2/liv TN TN TN *** Elizabeth 20 June 1879 g/dau Nellie C 14 May 1886 g/dau *** 1900 Anderson Co, TN Census Records Sam Taylor 41 Feb 1859 m/20/yrs Nancy 54 Sept 1845 m/20/yrs 6/chi/4/liv William J 18 May 1882 son Almira Duncan 4 July 1895 g/dau Nancy J Daugherty 29 Feb 1871 wid 5/chi/3/liv (I DON'T BELIEVE SHE IS RACHEL'S DAU)??? ***** Anderson Co, TN Marriage Records Samuel Taylor to Nancy Byrge Mar 18, 1876 Samuel Taylor to Nancy Bray April 8, 1880 (That's all I know folks & John Taylor is a whole different theory.) Don't even wish to go there! Hope this helps. Fay Gloria Fay (Harmon) Burris [email protected]

Greetings: Does anyone know anything about the Anderson County Poor Farm? Was this a place that people went to voluntarily? If so, what was the criteria for acceptance? Or was it a place where people were sent that owed bills they couldn't pay? A debtors prison? Was it a real working farm where the inmates were expected to work for their room and board? Did the inmates live in separate houses or was there a dormitory? When was the Poor Farm discontinued? Many thanks. Ron
