Linda, My g'g'grandparents were William Hedgepeth Nichols and wife Mary (Polly) Claxton Smith Nichols. They lived in the Bellbuckle area of Bedford County. I believe they may have been married there sometime prior to their first child's birth in 1837 but have never found any record. I think the name "Claxton" in Mary's name was probably a family name. Sorry, I couldn't help more.
