Dear Dianna (spelled it right this time!), Below are a couple of my census transcriptions re the Batson's: ************************************************ 1850 Montgomery County, Tennessee, Federal Census ===>> 30 Oct 1850, Asst Marshal - T Ramey, Dw #1176, Fam #1176, Line #'s 12 thru 16: Batson, Z: Age 27, Male, Farmer, b TN Batson, Arabella: Age 27, Fem, b TN Batson, Elisabeth: Age 4, Fem, b TN Batson, Mary: Age 2, Fem b TN Batson, Thomas: Age 6/12, Male, b TN <><><><><> 1880 Montgomery County, Texas, Federal Census ===>> Page 14, Sup Dist #4, Enum Dist #141, Civil District #16, 14 June 1880, Enumerator - Thos T Harper, [Printed 410 B], Dw #9, Fam #9, Line #'s 45 thru 50 & 1 thru 3 on following page: [ADC Images 14 & 15 of 41] Batson, Z: Wh, Male, Age 56[sic], Marr, Farmer, TN, NC, TN Batson, Ophelia: Wh, Fem, Age 36, Wife, Marr, KY, KY, TN Batson, S A: Wh, Male, Age 26, Son, Marr, On Farm, TN, TN, TN Batson, S M: Wh, Fem, Age 15, Dau-in-Law, Marr within yr, Keeping House, TN, TN, TN Batson, Z B: Wh, Male, Age 1, Son, Single, TN, TN, TN Neblett, Edna: Wh, Fem, Age 12, Step-Dau, At Home, TN, TN, TN, Att School Neblett, Wm: Wh, Male, Age 10, Step-Son, Single, KY, TN, TN, Att School Neblett, Elma: Wh, Fem, Age 8, Step-Dau, Single, TN, TN, TN Clark, Thos J: Wh, Male, Age 21, Hired, On Farm, Single, TN, TN, TN ************************************************ The Z B Batson in the 1880 census musta been ole Burney? He is shown as "Z B".... could his first name have been Zachariah? Zachariah O Batson, son of Arabella, was long gone by the time Burney was born, so the reuse of the name Zachariah seems a little more feasible. No sign of a daughter of Ophelia I've spotted in the records (named Mary) who probably died prior to 1880? Here's another census of interest in case you don't have it ... my transcription: ************************************************ 1850 Montgomery County, Tennessee, Federal Census ===>> 19 Nov 1850, Asst Marshal - T Ramey, Dw #1387, Fam #1387, Line #'s 30 thru 37: Cross, James B: Age 40, Male, Carpenter, b TN Cross, Cynthia: Age 38, Fem, b TN Cross, William B: Age 15, Male, b TN Cross, John M: Age 13, Male, b TN Cross, Sarah J: Age 11, Fem, b TN Cross, Belfield: Age 9, Male, b TN Cross, Ophelia: Age 7, Fem, b TN Cross, Victoria: Age 2, Fem, b TN ************************************************ The family finishes up with a British military service award ... Victoria Cross. (Groan) Hope this data doesn't cross you up! (Double Groan). Heres another bit of census data that might also interest you ... my transcription: ************************************************ 1850 Montgomery County, Tennessee, Federal Census ===>> 30 Oct 1850, Asst Marshal - T Ramey, Dw #1175, Fam #1175, Line #'s 1 thru 11: Batson, Thomas H: Age 50, Male, Wh, Farmer, REV $8000, b NC Batson, Nancy: Age 45, Fem, Wh, b TN Batson, Alexander: Age 25, Male, Laborer, b TN Batson, Willie B: Age 23, Male, Farmer, b TN Batson, Smith: Age 21, Male, b TN Batson, Thomas: Age 19, Male, b TN Batson, Susan: Age 15, Fem, b TN Batson, Richard: Age 13, Male, b TN Batson, Nancy: Age 11, Fem, b TN Batson, Elizabeth: Age 7, Fem, b TN Batson, John: Age 3, Male, b TN ************************************************ Of course, this was Zachariah's father and mother's family. He had an army of family living in the same area ....... brothers, sisters, and his mother. If interested you may want to look it up if you haven't already done so. Zachariah's sister, Susan, has her future husband also shown in the census living in the same residence as Zacharaiah's mother (Susan's husband was apparently a half-cousin?). There seems to be some discrepancy regarding Zachariah's DOD.
