1. [ROOTWALKER] GRRREAT Links
2. Good morning everyone, I haven't posted very many Grrreat Links in quite some time, so I thought today would be a good one to do so. I am sure some of you have been to these sites before, but many haven't. Vanessa and I hope you all find something useful and enjoyable in these links. The first site is one where you can go to find a lot more links. Take a close look at the census information links as well as the courthouse information links. Index of /~haas/learningcenter http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~haas/learningcenter/ The second site to link to is the Metro Nashville Archives. The Friends of Metropolitan Archives of Nashville and Davidson County, TN have a site with a search engine and information about such things as Services by mail, Metro Marriages, Davidson County Cemeteries (One of the Rootwalker Cemeteries is shown here), Local History, as well as many other interesting and useful things. Friends of Metro Archives Nashville and Davidson County, TN http://www.geocities.com/metroarchives/# The third link may be extremely helpful if you have ever wondered about the Spanish Influenza outbreak of 1918. The first case was noted on this date in 1918. There is a great map of the spread of the epidemic through the US. The American Experience | Influenza 1918 | Maps http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/amex/influenza/maps/index.html The fourth link is one that I have been waiting to see for quite some time. I had heard that a site was being constructed that supplies a map of Montgomery County and Clarksville that was interactive. The user can zoom in, out, pan, or find a location by using a search. This has been planned for a long time, and today is available for your use. I checked the map, which when zoomed in uses aerial photos, for accuracy by searching for known locations such as my relatives' homes, schools, the courthouse, and some cemeteries. This map is wonderful! It is sometimes a bit slow loading, and the resolution is not so great when you zoom in to the closest levels, but worth the visit if you have any research in Montgomery County, TN. I did notice that the aerial photos were made sometime between 1995 and the tornado of a couple of years ago. I dated this by the addition of a heat pump on my Grandparent's home, and the absence of any tornado damage in downtown Clarksville. Clarksville GIS 3.0 HTML Viewer http://gisweb.apsu.edu/cmcgis.htm Just for fun I added this fifth link. It is for a genealogy quiz to test your knowledge of this endeavor. You won't have to tell anyone your score if you don't want to. Genealogy Test http://www.witsend.org/gen/gentest.htm I have visited all of these sites as I was typing this mail and all are working well this morning. Thanks for being the ROOTWALKER family. Sincerely, Stan Magnesen
