A couple of you mentioned the name "Mahala"--I've run across it in my family too and have fallen in love with it. But I always say "MaHAYla...uh...MaHALLa" because I've never heard it pronounced by a reliable source. How has it been pronounced in your families? Joy

I attended high school with a Mahala, pronounced "MaHAYla" Locality may make a difference in how it is pronounced. This was in early 1940's in Houston, TX.
