Hello Jean, Would you happen to know what county your grandmother was known to live in? If the name of the school was "Providence" rather than "Provident" there were several schools by that name in Tennessee. In the ROOTWALKER region there were four schools that we have reference to that went by the name of Providence. They were in Trousdale, Sumner, Humphreys and Davidson Counties. In the counties of Tennessee that are not part of the ROOTWALKER region there were seven schools that we know of that went by the name of Providence. They were in Lewis, Henry, Henderson, Hancock, Grundy, Giles and Claiborne Counties. There are several communities in Tennessee that are named "New Providence." One of them is in Montgomery County, Tennessee. There is currently a New Providence Middle School located there but I don't know how old it is. There is also a New Providence School in Hamilton County, Tennessee. If your grandmother was in any of the counties mentioned it shouldn't be too hard to find where the school was in that community. Thanks for being part of the ROOTWALKER family. God Bless America!
