Hi Stan, :) Thanks for the info. :) The pistol is in poor condition; much of the nickel plate is worn away, in the appropriate places, and it's missing half of the grip/handle. The engraving on the gun isn't distinctive... it's more like what I would call filigree. That is, lots and lots of curlicues and such. There are some numbers stamped into it, near the trigger area. Unfortunately, I can't read them all, but I can read a few. If I can come up with a manufacturer name, I agree that I might be able to use those few numbers for a trace. The remaining grip has what looks like a monogram, but it's so worn that it's very difficult to make out. The biggest puzzle that I've encountered is that there is a manufacturers name, stamped on top of the barrel. But, unfortunately, it appears that someone has tried to scratch it out. There are scored lines that appear to be deliberately placed. I have no idea who did that, but I must admit that it provokes my imagination. Given that Ted was a bounty hunter, I'm wondering just where he got this pistol from, or what he did to it after gaining possession. The possibilities are endless and might make for good stories. <grin> But, before I go making up stories... I'll see what facts I can come up with. :) I thank you for you input. :) Be well, Suzanne
