    1. [ROOTWALKER] Our Earthquake
    2. Hi Melody and all-- I live in Vancouver, WA about 150 miles south of the epicenter of the quake. I felt it here--got a good shake--but there is no major damage in my neck of the woods. Our State Capitol Building in Olympia has some major restoration that will need repair--cracks in the dome and some of the granite pillars. Some of the buildings in that area are going to need repairing--the governmental offices are all in a complex. There were a few landslides that have closed a major road or two. All of the overpasses, bridges, train tracks etc. will have to be checked and some minor damage has been reported. When I turned the tv off a couple of hours ago, about a dozen people had been injured in the Seattle area, most minor, 3 from "crushing" and one from burns are in serious condition. At that time tho, no deaths had been reported. All the windows at the control tower at Sea-Tac airport were blown out so the airport is closed and planes are being diverted. Until the tracks and bridges are all checked, Amtrack is not running. The governor says repairs will be in the billions, but most I have heard about so far are decorative as opposed to structurial building repairs--facades, ceiling tiles, etc. Some cars were crushed when debris fell. This should be a good wake up call or so "they" say. Buildings need to be earth quake compliant and people need to learn how to care for themselves for a short while if major damage happens. This quake was 30+ miles underground so they don't think there will be aftershocks and damage is relatively minor. Had it been in the earth's crust things would be totally different. Thank you for caring about this side of our country! Pat in WA state
