    1. [ROOTWALKER] (TSLA) Elijah WHITING, Robertson Co., TN
    2. Good morning WHITING researchers, Searching for records for Mr. Elijah WHITING, of Robertson County, Tennessee, was a real treat for us. We got to say "Adios" to the retiring librarian in White House, Tennesse, got coffee, punch, cake, cookies, and assorted candies there, then, had the pleasure of a drive in the country (nearly running over some cows in the road), and a morning walk in an old cemetery, then, got to test our skills as researchers to find this man. Based on the information you gave us, we had hoped to find the grave of Mr. WHITING shown in a cemetery listing for the Gidgeon Methodist Church Cemetery in Robertson County, Tennessee. Then, taking that information, finding the obituary for Mr. Whiting in an old Robertson County newspaper. Luck was not with us. Mr. WHITING was not shown in that cemetery listing. Sooooo, we drove to the cemetery, thinking that sometimes, tombstones are missed by transcribers who do not make a second trip to the cemetery to verify their work, as Vanessa insists we do with our own transcriptions. We walked this cemetery twice looking for the grave of Mr. WHITING. Based on the other information you gave us, such as the wife's maiden name, and alternate spellings of the name WHITING, we felt confident that Mr. WHITING was nearby. There are several other graves that match the surnames related to Mr. WHITING, though there was no stone bearing his specific name. We wrote these down for you. Anna WHITEN Oct. 22, 1888 Feb. 20, 1918 There are several fieldstone markers and unmarked graves in this area of the cemetery. William E. WHITING Jan. 25, 1932 May 30, 1963 "In Loving Memory" Mr. William Whiting had a military marker as a footstone which reads" William E. WHITING Tennessee PFC US Army Jan. 25, 1932 May 30, 1963 Other related tombstones are: George W. WHITEN July 26, 1881 June 4, 1955 This is a double-stone: WHITING Wm. Cherry Jan 30, 1884 June 25, 1957 Footstone-"Father" Mollie Flynn Dec. 5, 1889 April 18, 1958 Footstone-"Mother" We did not find the grave we were looking for. So, we went on to TSLA. We researched old newspapers from the Robertson County area, but did not find any reference to Mr. WHITING. We researched anything that could possibly have reference to Mr. WHITING, including other cemetery books. We searched through death records. (Enough that I dreamed of death records last night.) Then, we re-researched the death record index on microfilm, by year, until we found his death certificate. Vanessa will post this on the ROOTWALKER web site in the near future. Thanks for being part of the ROOTWALKER family, Sincerely, Stan Magnesen ROOTWALKER site/list coordinator
