Hello everyone, We have had the "Cumberland County, Tennessee, Journal B, 1856 - 1860" book in the ROOTWALKER library for several years. We last offered it for lookups on June 8, 2001. This is an interesting book containing about 300 entries. These entries include information about grants, deeds, various certifications, gifts, bills of sale and other items. If you would like a lookup from this book please post the names of the person or persons you are looking for. Please limit the names to three per request. Remember that Cumberland County is surrounded by Putnam, Fentress, White, Roane, Rhea, Van Buren, Overton and Morgan Counties. If your family was known to be in one of these counties, you might consider seeing if they had any business in Cumberland County that might have been recorded in this book. If you aren't sure if your family was in or near Cumberland County during the years of 1856 through 1860, don't be shy about requesting a lookup from this book. Thanks for being part of the ROOTWALKER family. God Bless America! Stan Magnesen ROOTWALKER site/list coordinator

Good morning Rose, The "Stewart County, Tennessee, Marriage Record Book #4" covers the years of 1838 through 1848. There are several ADAMS family members mentioned in this book. One of them is a gentleman named James ADAMS. Although the name of James is pretty common I'll give you the marriage information about him, just in case this might be a later marriage of the James ADAMS you are inquiring about. ~~~~~~~~~~ This James ADAMS married a lady by the name of Silva HOUSTON. They applied for their marriage license on July 8, 1841, and their marriage was solemnized on July 8, 1841. Their marriage ceremony was performed by James ROSS, Minister. ~~~~~~~~~~ There are five other members of the ADAMS family mentioned in this book. The name of Catherine THOMAS is not mentioned in this book, but there are five members of the THOMAS family shown in it. Is there anyone else you would like me to look up in this book? Hello June, Once upon a time I saw the name of Gretna Green on an old map of Sumner County. I don't recall exactly where it was but will try to find out for you. Do you recall the names of the people receiving mail at the Gretna Green Post Office? There was a community north of Castalian Springs and southwest of Bethpage named Greenwood. I am wondering if that was the same community. Thanks for being part of the ROOTWALKER family. God Bless America!
