Good morning BJ. I have records of some of my family in a Methodist Church in the last half of the 1800's in Indian Mound, Tennessee, which is in Stewart County. I don't know how old that particular church is, though. It isn't possible that your family member was married in Houston County in the 1830's, though. Houston County wasn't formed until 1871. If you would like, I'll research the Methodist Churches in Stewart County and find when they were formed. It may take a little time to get an answer to you, though. Hi Stan, The lady in Wilson County believes Spencer W. TALLEY and his wife Araminta EDDINGS are buried under fieldstones in the Talley cemetery outside of Statesville in Wilson County. The only "will" she could find was an inventory of his estate sale in 1851. The problem of identifying Spencer W. TALLEY's parents or siblings is compounded by finding 4 Spencer TALLEYs in Wilson County. The one that married Elizabeth Webb, had 10 children and died there in 1818 isn't mine. The one born in 1828, married Aceneth H. Williams there in 1850 and moved to Wabash Co., Illinois isn't mine. The one born in 1841 and served as a Lieutenant in the TN 28th Infantry isn't mine. My GG-grandfather was born in VA about 1800 (1850 U.S. census), married Araminta EDDINGS in Wilson County in 1829 and died there in 1851. Good morning BJ, Yes, there is a record in the "Stewart County Marriage Record Book 4, 1838 - 1848" book about a marriage between Mr. SUMMERS and Miss OUTLAW. There isn't a lot of information about this marriage, only the date the marriage license was issued is shown. ~~~~~~~~~~ James F. SUMMERS married Tennessee P. OUTLAW. The marriage license was issued on July 3, 1847. The license was never returned as Solemnized and the name of the person performing the ceremony is not recorded. ~~~~~~~~~~ I have seen incomplete records such as this numerous times. It seems that often, the person conducting the ceremony just neglected to return the license to the courthouse and the record was never completely recorded. Is there anyone else I can look up in this book for you? Thanks for being part of the ROOTWALKER family. God Bless America!
