1. [ROOTWALKER] Brooklyn Daily Eagle Newspaper.
2. Hello everyone, Many of us had ancestors that came into this great country by way of New York City. Some of those ancestors may have stayed in the New York area for a while before moving on into Tennessee or other parts of these United States. The Brooklyn Daily Eagle was a major newspaper in the New York area from 1841 to 1902 and we are happy to find that images of this newspaper have been uploaded to the Brooklyn Public Library site. This site is still in the "beta test" mode and should not be entirely ready for the general public before the summer of 2003. (I suppose we could say that you are not the general public, you are part of the ROOTWALKER family!) Although the first page you encounter at this address states that Netscape is not supported on this site, I have been told that some people are using Netscape and are not experiencing any difficulties with it. On the Brooklyn Daily Eagle site you will find a search engine that will search for a keyword. You will also be able to search a particular issue of this newspaper. Some of the information that can be found in these newspapers is" Obituaries Hotel Arrivals Personal News about individuals Society News Unclaimed Letters Civil War Casualty Lists Civil War Deserter Lists Marriage Announcements There are many other features found on this website that I'll let you discover for yourselves. The address for the "Brooklyn Daily Eagle" site is: http://eagle.brooklynpubliclibrary.org/ Brooklyn Daily Eagle Online (1841-1902), The Brooklyn Public Library, Brooklyn Collection I searched this newspaper for information about one of my ancestors and found one of the family mentioned in a passenger list. We hope you find a lot of great information about your family on this site. If you like this "Brooklyn Daily Eagle" site please let us know and we will let you know about more sites like it as we learn about them. Thanks for being part of the ROOTWALKER family.
