Good morning Jeanne, The creek you mention sounds like Muddy Branch. I seem to recall my grandfather living on Muddy Branch for a while when he was younger. Just to the southwest of where the road crosses Muddy Branch there was once a huge amount of mistletoe. Every year my grandfather and I used to go there, cross the creek, and shoot mistletoe out of the trees to distribute among our family and friends. On the northeastern side of this creek crossing you can still see the old railroad bed where the local tram once ran. When he was younger, my grandfather plowed all of the bottom land around Mark's Bottom with mules. He worked for the Marks family for a number of years and his young shadow and became his lifelong friend, Dempsey Marks, former judge of Montgomery County. Being that Vanessa and I sometimes fish where my grandfather learned, I think I'll have to keep that location a secret. I learned a long time ago that if you tell of your favorite fishin' holes they soon get a bit overcrowded! The store at Hickory Point is where my grandfather once shot a man, and nothing about it was an accident. The story is a short one and I'll be glad to tell it if anyone wants to hear it. Wouldn't it be neat to find that our ancestors were acquainted with each other, or better yet, friends! Thanks for being part of the ROOTWALKER family. "Stars And Stripes Forever!" Hello everyone, I am happy to see the interest in the Bell Witch that has been shown on the ROOTWALKER mail list. Rather than send many emails to people who are interested in a copy of the book about the Bell Witch that was published in 1894 by M. V. Ingram, I thought I would go ahead and post the information for everyone. The site to find this book is the Robertson County Museum site. This book is available in their gift shop. I have seen copies of this book in Elders Books in Nashville as well as several other book stores. The address for the Robertson County Museum site is: http://www.rchsonline.com/gifts1.html http://www.rchsonline.com/gifts1.html We hope the museum has enough books to fill the orders of everyone that wants one. Please contact the museum before ordering to be sure they aren't out of these books by the time you send your payment. By the way, don't forget to tell them that you heard about the Museum and gift shop from ROOTWALKER. Thanks for being part of the ROOTWALKER family. God Bless America! Hi Stan, I will have to look at my notes from my 2001 trip to Hiscory Pt to verify but I recall Lock B Rd as possibly being where my coakley's lived or intersecting their rd. Our cabin was near where the creek crossed the road. Where did your grandfather learn to fish? That store does sound like the one my family walked to. I wish my aunt was still living so I could mention your grandfather to her. She provided many genealogy clues in my search. Hello again, Jean, Thanks for the compliments. They always brighten a person's day. The location of the Providence School in Sumner County, Tennessee, was at the intersection of Luby Brown Road and Keen Hollow Road, which is just west and slightly north of Westmoreland. The location of the Providence School in Trousdale County, Tennessee was almost due south of Hartsville, But across the Cumberland River and very close to the Wilson County line. The school was located near the southeastern corner of the intersection of Providence Road and Cedar Bluff Road. The addresses to find the location of the Providence School in Sumner and Trousdale Counties of Tennessee are shown below. These are very long addresses, so be sure to include the entire address for each site. In Sumner County, The address is: http://geonames.usgs.gov/pls/gnis/MapServer?f_name=Providence+School+(historica l)&f_state=TN&f_latlong=363522N0861850W&f_ht=.25&server=TIGER http://geonames.usgs.gov/pls/gnis/MapServer?f_name=Providence+School+(historic al)&f_state=TN&f_latlong=363522N0861850W&f_ht=.25&server=TIGER ~~~~~~~~~~ The address for the Providence School in Trousdale County, Tennessee is: http://geonames.usgs.gov/pls/gnis/MapServer?f_name=Providence+School+(historica l)&f_state=TN&f_latlong=362006N0860908W&server=TIGER http://geonames.usgs.gov/pls/gnis/MapServer?f_name=Providence+School+(historic al)&f_state=TN&f_latlong=362006N0860908W&server=TIGER ~~~~~~~~~~ We hope these maps help you locate the place where your grandmother worked. With the close proximity of the Providence School in Trousdale County to the Wilson County line, I would suggest you start looking there. If you find the district of Wilson County she lived in was close to this area, you could possibly have the answer to the questions about the Providence School. Hello Jean, You are certainly very welcome for our part in your receiving this Census information, but our part was very small. All we did was let you know the Census was transcribed. The hard work was done by David Corlew, Maggie Stewart and Teresa Corlew. They deserve all of the credit for their hard work and the contribution they have made to the genealogical community of the area. Hello Susy, I have heard of the Bell Witch all my life, too. The story of this scorned lady was among the scariest stories I heard from my grandparents and parents as a child. The stories of Bloody Bones, Saucer Eyes, and the Headless Horseman, along with legends of ghosts of soldiers and Indians from battles long ago have pretty much faded in my memory, but the tales of the Bell Witch live on. I once did some timber work in the area of Adams, Tennessee, and the property we were working on was reported to have been part of the old Bell plantation. We were told that part of the Bell Witch cave ran under the woodland we were working in. It was very difficult to even see a tree when some of those stories came to mind. I think of that, as well as many of the stories of the Bell Witch whenever we go through Adams. I'm sometimes very glad that Hwy. 41 is, in my opinion, one of the better roads to drive on in Tennessee, just in case. Thanks for being part of the ROOTWALKER family. God Bless America!
