Hello BRYANT researchers, In trying to fulfill a request to find an obituary or death certificate for Mrs. Mary E. BRYANT, of Baxter, Tennessee, we noticed the death date to be 1953. The State of Tennessee does not allow death certificates on microfilm at that late of a date. I believe the latest date is 1949 at this time. We searched through the Putnam County Herald for the obituary of Mrs. BRYANT, but did not find one. We also searched through the entire paper to see if there was a reference to the death of Mrs. BRYANT in any of the local goings-on. We did find a reference there. This is from the Putnam County Herald dated Thursday, December 24, 1953, Page 8, in the local news for Cedar Hill (Putnam County), Tennessee. "We of this community were sorry to hear of the death of Mrs. Mary Bryant, Baxter. Mrs. Bryant was well known and loved by all in our community. Our sympathy goes to her family." We hope this is at least some of the information you were hoping for. Thanks for being part of the ROOTWALKER family. Sincerely, Stan Magnesen ROOTWALKER site/list coordinator
Good morning BUTRUM researchers, On the recent visit to TSLA, we researched Mrs. Margaret A. STEENBERGEN BUTRUM of Macon County, Tennessee. In the book "Macon County Cemeteries, Vol. 2,"1989, we did not find a listing for Mrs. BUTRUM. In the book "Macon County Cemeteries, Vol 1," 1987, though, we did find a listing for Mrs. BUTRUM. In the Payne Cemetery, near Lafayette, Tennessee, there is a grave for her. The tombstone reads as follows: BUTRUM, Margret A. Steenbergen, Born March 3, 1831, Died May 8, 1911. We searched through the 1900 census of Macon County, Tennessee, on microfilm, and did not find a HALE family that had Mrs. BUTRUM living with them. This could have been missed, though, because of the nature of scanning hundreds of images on a microfilm. This census is indexed using the Soundex system, which meant that about 90 percent of the roll was the same number, H400. We hope that the grave shown above is the information you were looking for. Thanks for being part of the ROOTWALKER family. Sincerely, Stan Magnesen ROOTWALKER site/list coordinator
Hello WALDEN researchers, In researching the name, Reathea (or Rethey) Mary WALDEN, child of Fielder DeWitt WALDEN and Susan Grubbs WALDEN, we did not find a listing of this grave in any of the Robertson County, Tennessee, cemetery books. There are four of these books, published in 1973, 1975, a second one in 1975, and 1987. We did, however, find a reference to Reathey WALDEN in another book. This book is titled "Robertson County, Tennessee Obituaries and Death Records 1802-1930." It looks as if this information was taken off a death certificate. WALDEN, Reathey, female white, 1 year old, died, December 12, 1909. Born in Robertson County, Tennessee. Cause of Death was Croup. Doctor T. L. Johnson attending, Died in the 12th district of Robertson County, Tennessee. We hope this is the information you were needing. Thanks for being part of the ROOTWALKER family. Sincerely, Stan Magnesen ROOTWALKER site/list coordinator

Hello everyone, If you posted anything to the ROOTWALKER mail list yesterday or last night and it did not show up on the list, please re-post. Apparently, there was a problem somewhere that caused a lot of emails to not post to Rootsweb mail lists. Vanessa and I had posted several letters about our recent trip to TSLA, but only three of them showed up on list. Thanks, Stan Magnesen ROOTWALKER site/list coordinator

Stan and Vanessa, Thank you. You have corrected a mistake that was made in transcribing Margaret's birthdate. You have also disproved the roomer that Margaret's last name was Abling and that she had married a Steenbergen before she married James Butrum. It is great that someone thought to put her maiden name on her marker...now to find out who her parents are. Good morning WHITING researchers, Searching for records for Mr. Elijah WHITING, of Robertson County, Tennessee, was a real treat for us. We got to say "Adios" to the retiring librarian in White House, Tennesse, got coffee, punch, cake, cookies, and assorted candies there, then, had the pleasure of a drive in the country (nearly running over some cows in the road), and a morning walk in an old cemetery, then, got to test our skills as researchers to find this man. Based on the information you gave us, we had hoped to find the grave of Mr. WHITING shown in a cemetery listing for the Gidgeon Methodist Church Cemetery in Robertson County, Tennessee. Then, taking that information, finding the obituary for Mr. Whiting in an old Robertson County newspaper. Luck was not with us. Mr. WHITING was not shown in that cemetery listing. Sooooo, we drove to the cemetery, thinking that sometimes, tombstones are missed by transcribers who do not make a second trip to the cemetery to verify their work, as Vanessa insists we do with our own transcriptions. We walked this cemetery twice looking for the grave of Mr. WHITING. Based on the other information you gave us, such as the wife's maiden name, and alternate spellings of the name WHITING, we felt confident that Mr. WHITING was nearby. There are several other graves that match the surnames related to Mr. WHITING, though there was no stone bearing his specific name. We wrote these down for you. Anna WHITEN Oct. 22, 1888 Feb. 20, 1918 There are several fieldstone markers and unmarked graves in this area of the cemetery. William E. WHITING Jan. 25, 1932 May 30, 1963 "In Loving Memory" Mr. William Whiting had a military marker as a footstone which reads" William E. WHITING Tennessee PFC US Army Jan. 25, 1932 May 30, 1963 Other related tombstones are: George W. WHITEN July 26, 1881 June 4, 1955 This is a double-stone: WHITING Wm. Cherry Jan 30, 1884 June 25, 1957 Footstone-"Father" Mollie Flynn Dec. 5, 1889 April 18, 1958 Footstone-"Mother" We did not find the grave we were looking for. So, we went on to TSLA. We researched old newspapers from the Robertson County area, but did not find any reference to Mr. WHITING. We researched anything that could possibly have reference to Mr. WHITING, including other cemetery books. We searched through death records. (Enough that I dreamed of death records last night.) Then, we re-researched the death record index on microfilm, by year, until we found his death certificate. Vanessa will post this on the ROOTWALKER web site in the near future. Thanks for being part of the ROOTWALKER family, Sincerely, Stan Magnesen ROOTWALKER site/list coordinator
