2. Hello Steve, I have my copy of this book with me as we type. 1. [ROOTWALKER] Questions and answers about obituaries
2. Hi Leslie, You have asked some very good questions! I don't know if there is a rock-solid rule as to whether the place listed in the obituary is the place of death or the home, but I think it is usually the place of the home. But then again, I don't know of any rule about this. When we post the names of people listed in the obituaries of the Tennessean, we encourage people to go to the Tennessean web site and copy-and-paste the desired obituary to their own disk, mail, word processing program (Note pad, word pad, etc.) If you or anyone needs directions on how to copy-and-paste, let me know and I will send them to you. Since I often don't have a hard copy of the Tennessean, unless I am at work, I don't have the printed obituary to send to people. Sometimes, though I do have it and will gladly forward it to the person requesting it. But like I said, I often don't have a hard copy of the paper. The entire obituary is posted on-line, just as it is seen in the newspaper, so copying it from the web site is usually the best way to go. Thanks for the great questions, Leslie. And, thanks for being part of the ROOTWALKER family. 1. [ROOTWALKER] Searching for the obituary of Judythe Hurd, Montgomery County, TN
2. Hello John, Sure, this is the place to ask your questions. I did not find an obituary for Judythe Hurd in the Tennessean obituaries. Perhaps you could contact the Clarksville Leaf Chronicle at: The Leaf-Chronicle - theleafchronicle.com http://www.theleafchronicle.com/news/stories/20010216/obituaries/index.html If you cannot find the obituary you are looking for there, you can write the Leaf Chronicle on a form provided off their home page. They may have just what you want! OR, Some other member of the ROOTWALKER family may have a copy of the Leaf Chronicle with that obituary in it and be willing to send it to you off list (to protect the Leaf Chronicle's copyright) We hope this may help you if only just a little. 3. I'm sorry that you thought my message was an advertisement. I didn't put how to access Vartec for that very reason. I certainly appreciated finding out about cheap phone rates from my mom and thought some others might like to save money also. Sorry to have offended you. I hope by finding a living relative I don't know about that they might have pictures and stories to share. My intentions were good, sorry you took them a way I didn't intend. Jeanne

1. [ROOTWALKER] Look for those "living" relatives now
2. Raymond Millman
3. Dear List, Please take the time to try to locate all living relatives of your ancestors. They have wonderful stories to share. If you look at the ages of the people listed in the obits. you will realize that those who could have known Civil War era relatives are reaching the ends of their lives. I met a man several month's ago who was 85, he remembered his grandfather born in 1848!! His grandfather died in 1925, when Jack was 10. Oh, I can't imagine meeting a relative that might have known my gggrandfather b. in 1849! So much of what we find in our genealogy searching is dry facts that we have to try to flesh out with our mind as to what our relatives lives must have been like. I think most folks are like me, we want to "hear" stories of our ancestors lives but have to settle for the bare facts we find. I've branched out in my searching this year to try and locate relations to my grandmother's brothers and her half-sister. I've been searching the SSDI and then looking for obits that might provide a starting point for names of their offspring. I also started sending out letters to folks with the same surnames living in my relatives area. I enclose a list of some of the generations as I don't know if my letter is going to a 65 yr old or an 18 yr old that might not know the name of his/her ggggrandparents. I have had almost a 50% return rate on my SASEs. Plus, I've enjoyed hearing from those that wrote notes back to me. I've also called some people and they have taken the time to call me back. my mom told me about Vartec phone rates. I only pay 5cents a minute with a 50cent minumum. There is no monthly fee. It has saved me much money, as some of my calls to relatives are in the multiple hour range! Only $3 an hour. Good luck on finding your brick walls this year!
