    1. [ROOTWALKER] FREY surnames in "Red River Settlers."
    2. Good morning Joe, I don't find any specific dates for entries in the "Red River Settlers" book, but the majority of them are before the civil war, with very few names mentioned after that time, and then as descendants of the original settlers, usually. I think the earliest date I have seen mentioned in the book is 1788, when the General Assembly of North Carolina laid off the three new counties of Davidson, Sumner, and Tennessee. I hope this helps you. Thanks for being part of the ROOTWALKER family. 1. Re: [ROOTWALKER] Wright, Griffith, and Bowers families in "Red River Settlers"
    2. They were in basically Dekalb,Smith,Wilson counties, some moved to Davidson counties. I am looking for the marriage of William Wright. His first marriage would have been before 1824, the year before his oldest son was born. He was originally from North Carolina. Have documented his second marriage in Wilson county in 1849. He is listed as an early settler in Dekalb county. Some of the Griffiths married in Warren county. With a common name like William Wright, info is hard to is easy to find but hard to make a connection. If you happened to run across any info that might pertinent to this William Wright. He was born in 1800 in Rockingham county NC. Thanks geri

    1. [ROOTWALKER] What is the "Red River Settlers" book?
    2. Hi Jeanne! You are right, "Red River Settlers" is a tiny book, compared to most. I have always heard that big things come in small packages, and if this book is any indication, that old saying must have some basis in truth. In all, the book is only 146 pages, not counting the index, table of contents, and introduction, and the pages are only 5 1/2 X 8 1/2 inches. I met a lady a few weeks ago that knew the author of this book, Mrs. Edythe Rucker Whitley. Mrs. Whitley was said to be a delightful lady that found a great deal of joy in helping other people. We need more like her. Thanks, Jeanne, for being part of the ROOTWALKER family. 1. [ROOTWALKER] Polly LAWRENCE
    2. Good morning Shirley, We are delighted that we are allowed the opportunity to help you. Let's see if we can find anything in Sumner, Trousdale, Robertson, or Macon Counties in Tennessee that you can find useful. In the book, "Red River Settlers," there is reference to Polly LAWRENCE. Polly married a man named Robert MURPHEY, who was the son of George MURPHEY, senior, and Elizabeth (?), his wife. Robert passed away in 1826. Robert and Polly had several children as shown below: 1. Elizabeth (Wed a BLANKENSHIP man) 2. Elias (Passed away in 1862) 3. Joseph 4. Carroll 5. Rhoda born in 1824, died in 1862, (Wed a WHITEHEAD man) 6. Robert. born May 20, 1827, died March 17, 1882 I don't know if there were any other children, but these are referred to in this publication. In 1872, J. C. and W. C. MURPHEY, sons of Robert MURPHEY (#6, above,) founded a general store at Adams Station. One year later, J. C. sold his share in order to persue an education. In 1876, J. C. opened another general store in Adams Station. J. C. married a young lady from Robertson County named Mettie FUQUA on December 26, 1876. Mettie was born July 25, 1856 in Robertson County, Tenn., and was the daughter of Samuel and Eliza FUQUA. >From the information shown me in this book, it is a good possibility that J. C. was married prior to his marriage with Ms. FUQUA. There is reference to a J. C. MURPHEY tying the knot with (Mary E.) ENGLAND on Feb. 15, 1855, at the home of J. F. ENGLAND in Robertson Co., TN, by J. F. COOK. There is a line of what I assume are descendants of J. C. Murphey. If you are interested, I will send that list to you. We do hope you find this information useful. Thanks for being part of the ROOTWALKER family. 2. Shirley White
    3. Stan, Thanks for the information on Polly Lawrence. Although, I have nothing on her, I would like to have the rest of the information. My gg grandfather James Lawrence was supposedly born in Va. around 1810 but I have never gotten proof of that he married Matilda Law of Macon Co., Tn. and they had 5 children - Samuel Patrick born in 1835, Susan Matilda born in 1839, Mary Frances born in 1842 in Missouri, John Lewis born in 1844 in Marion Co. Illinois (my gg grandfather) and James Wesley born in 1847. I have found quite a few Lawrences in Monroe Co.,Ky. and feel that my ancesters migrated from Missouri to Monroe Co.Ky. But they must have started from somewhere in Tennessee. I printed a map from Ancestry.Com which shows the migration route from Monroe Co., Ky. to Missouri and Texas which goes up through Illinois, Indiana, Missouri, Arkansas, Oklahoma and Texas. This is why I think they must have taken this route for the children to have been born in different states. Therefore, I may in the future be able to tie Polly into my family. My g grandfather once lived in Sumner and Trousdale counties prior to moving to Macon Co. Tn. and Allen Co., Ky. Thank you for you patience. 2. Hello Deborah! Yes, there was a reference to the Chism family in the book,"Red River Settlers." Here is what we found. While looking at our copy of "Red River Settlers" by Edythe Rucker Whitley c. 1980, tonight, I noticed several references to the CHISM family in Montgomery and Davidson Counties of Tennessee. These given names were John, Sally, and Taylor. There is a reference to John Chisham in Montgomery County, Tenn. 3. Jeanne, I might have something by the end of the day. I am tracing down a Willie Guy Swindle from Lafayette Tn. and Decatur Illinois from a family obit. His middle name is scribbled out and "Web" is written in, which I am finding is incorrect. I am just receiving a connection to a William Swindle, son of Willie Swindle (don't know which one or if completely different).
