1. [ROOTWALKER] Sumner, Wilson, and Robertson Co. archives.
2. Hi folks, In the past few weeks, I have had the pleasure of visiting several different county archives of counties within the ROOTWALKER region. We visit a lot of archives, but never thought of sharing anything about them. There are a lot of great archives in different counties. Montgomery, for example, is wonderful, but right now I am going to tell you about three other county archives. A number of counties are taking a lot of interest in their archives. I have heard that the state of Tennessee is contributing money to the individual counties to assist them in preserving their court house records and other archival materials. I don't know how much money is given to the counties, or if any is given in every case, but that is what I have been told. No matter where they get the funding, I would like to thank all of the archivists, county employees, and volunteers who have been working so hard to preserve a past for all of us. Sumner County has a great archives. We visit them often. The people there know us by now and are always ready to help in our research. We truly do enjoy visiting the good people in Gallatin at the Sumner County Archives. If you wish to visit the Sumner County Archives, here is the address: Sumner County Archives 155 East Main Street, Gallatin, Tennessee 37066 Phone: (615) 452-0037 Hours: Monday through Friday 8:00 am - 4:30 PM If you wish to visit the Sumner County Archives web site, the address is: Sumner County Archives webpage http://www.sumnertn.org/archives/ Recently, I have had the pleasure of going to the Robertson County, Tennessee archives in Springfield, Tennessee. This is a new location for the Robertson County archives. The people here are very nice and extremely helpful. I had no trouble at all finding some documents I was looking for. The building is sparkling and clean and the temperature is very comfortable. There is a small area for people to use when doing their own research. The Roberson County archives is on Locust Street, only a block down the hill from the court house. If you are on Locust Street, you can't miss the archives. The building is well marked. There is also plenty of parking. If you would like to visit the Robertson County archives web site, here is their address: Welcome to the http://www.rootsweb.com/~tnrobert/archives/welcome.htm Yes, that is all it says, "Welcome to the"..but this will take you there! The address for the Robertson County Archives is: 504 S. Locust Street Springfield, TN 37172 615-382-6928 Last Friday, while Rootsweb was having some down time for hardware upgrades, I went over to the friendly town of Lebanon to the Wilson County archives. WOW! That should sum it up for you. This place is wonderful! They have different types of records in different rooms with work areas for everyone's use. Clean and neat, this archives looks like something you would only see in a movie. You could eat off the floors they are so clean. The Wilson County archives is the first I recall seeing refreshment machines in. Not that they are really needed. You are only a block off the town square with eating places not far away. If you get bored, (now, who would do that?) there are a lot of antique stores just around the corner, and on every corner of the town square, I believe. The people working in the Wilson County archives are friendly and helpful, and have offered their hand whenever needed to help the ROOTWALKER family that is researching folks from Wilson County. If you are in Lebanon and want to go to the archives there, here is their address: 111 S College St. Lebanon, TN 37087-3622 Telephone: 615-443-1993 Hours: 9:00 - 2:00 Monday - Friday I don't know of a web site for the Wilson County archives. If any of you have an address for them, please share it with us. To get there, go to the town square. Look at the Burger King on the NW corner, and turn around 180 degrees. You will see a road going out of the square going toward Carthage. Go out of the square one block on this road and turn right on College Street. The Wilson County archives is the first building on the left. I park in the square and walk around to the archives because the parking in the square is free and I think plentiful. If you are in any of these three counties, please visit the folks in their archives and don't forget to thank them for the great job they are doing. We visit a lot of archives and libraries, and will let you know about them, too, in the future. Sincerely, Stan Magnesen ROOTWALKER site/list coordinator

1. [ROOTWALKER] List coordinator message, Please Read.
2. Hi everyone, We are delighted that most everyone got through the earthquake in the northwestern part of the country in good order. Certainly, we are ecstatic that all of our ROOTWALKER family fared well through those terrible moments. We wish them and everyone else a speedy recovery in everything this natural disaster disrupted in their lives. One thing I would like to ask, though, is that you move the conversation to private emails if you want to discuss the events of yesterday morning in greater detail. There are some folks whose email providers won't allow them a lot of space for emails and they will sometimes experience problems with their ISP as a result. Now, if you have genealogical information to share or questions, assistance, queries, look-up requests or a zillion other things that are genealogically oriented, talk away with everyone's blessings. Thanks a million for understanding. Stan Magnesen ROOTWALKER site/list coordinator

1. [ROOTWALKER] Sarah FREY
2. Good afternoon Jeff, It is no bother at all. According to the book, "Red River Settlers," Sarah B. FREY was born on May 7, 1831 and died on September 10, 1917. There is no more information about her, except that her parents were George W. FREY and Sarah B. (BIDWELL) FREY of Robertson County, Tennessee. There is no reference to Mr. Talton WATSON in the book. We hope this little bit of information is useful to you. Thanks for being part of the ROOTWALKER family. 3. Hi Stan and Joe, I noticed my ancestor's name, Henry Ayres, come up in the conversation and then went online to the Robertson County Archives and found a marriage between John Ayers and Fredonin Frey in 1852 in Robertson County. Henry and Susan Ayres had a son John born about 1810, but I don't know if this is him or a grandson. Maybe this is the connection between the families that explains why Henry Frey signed the pension application for Henry Ayers. 1. [ROOTWALKER] earthquake
2. Melody-- Thanks for asking--am single tho. We have had a few aftershocks (I havent felt them!) Sea-Tac is open on a limited basis. About 300 people injured in Seattle and Olmpia. Only 4 considered serious. One elderly woman died of a heart attack. Aside from some repairs--most of the damage did not destroy buildings--we came thru wonderfully. If the quake had been closer to the surface it would have been a different story. Pat

2. Raymond Millman
3. Patty, See if the ages of the children in 1850 census minus 10 years correlate to the marks under the different age groupings in 1840 census.I would try to locate 1850 census for the other George Washington Bridges and see correlation to his children listed in 1850 to the 1840 marks also. If you're lucky, the marks will correspond to 1850 children. The marks may not match up to either family. I'm sure you know ages can vary for individuals on different censuses. Also check for any land records in 1840. I have the same census problem with two families with men having same first name. The marks matched for some of the children, but not others. Of course some children could die in that 10 year period also. I think census from 1840 back are a nightmare! I've started to gather info on 4 John Wardens in Tn during Civil War, to try and see if I can determine who the parents of my John Warden were. I also have the same problem with mutliple William G. Averitts in same time period. I think a lot of folks end up researching who ever has the same surname in an area to build up a database of info. You might learn on an 1890 will, who individuals on 1850 census are related to. Good luck on your searching, Jeanne

On August 14, 1832, another Henry FREY signed an affidavit to the character of Mr. Henry AYERS, as part of Mr. AYERS' application for a pension for service to the United States in the American Revolution. There is also a reference to a Miss Katherin BINKLEY marrying Henry FREY, but no dates are shown. There are no references to Jacob FREY in the book, "Red River Settlers." Peter FREY is shown marrying Sarah BINKLEY, sister to Katherin BINKLEY. No dates are shown. Jesse FREY is not shown in the book. Johann FREY is not shown in the book. There is a mention of Martin FREY and his marriage to Ursula DOWNLIN, daughter of Harris DOWNLIN, SR. Ursula and Martin reportedly had two children named Wiley and Huldah. No dates are given. There is no John FREY referred to in the book "Red River Settlers." We hope you find this information useful. Thanks for being part of the ROOTWALKER family.
