Bon Aqua means good water.
Some of these people I can identify from my database. Others are just a guess at best. My particular line went on to Lewis County Tn. and then to Effingham Co. Illinois. Thank you, Stan. I am always glad to add a little tidbit here and there to my records. Looking for any of the Burch family in Dickson County, TN. There was a W. B. Burch that married Mauda Lula (Jezabel) Blackard on 8/25/1891. Looking for their children or descendants. Thanks, Jeff Burton Nashville, TN
Thanks for all the help, Stan and Talmage Murphy. I printed the information out and checked it with a 90+ year old Keeling cousin today and she says it's not one of our Keelings. It's hard to know, though. Especially as my KEELING gggrandfather disappeared somewhere between 1836 and 1840, and we have never found any definite record of him before 1820! Hello Melody, In looking up the name HENSLEY in Hickman County, I found the following things: 1. J. D, HENSLEY was a Confederate soldier that enlisted from Hickman County, TN. Apparently, he survived the War of Yankee Aggression. He enlisted in the 24th Tennessee Infantry. He and other Hickman County men made up two companies of the 24th, which was organized at Camp Anderson, three miles south of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, on August 6th, 1861. 2. E. B. HENSLEY is shown on the Death Roll of Co. H., 3rd. Tennessee Infantry. I find no other reference to him. 3. Dr. L. G. HENSLEY is listed " Among the physicians who have practiced their profession in this district." 4. There are 23 HENSLEY family members shown in "Hickman County, Tennessee, Cemetery Records," Part 2, Fourth Printing, 1992, by the Captain Thomas Stewart Easley Chapter 1814, United Daughters of the Confederacy, Centerville, Tennessee. None of the HENSLEY people you mentioned are shown in this book. They may be shown in Volume 1, but it is out of print and I don't yet have a copy. I hope this bit of information is useful to you. My grandmother is listed by some Freeland chroniclers as Mattie Jennie Freeland born 1889. That is NOT correct. Her name was Mattie Jane Freeland born September 14, 1891, married Samuel H. Parker. I got this information from my aunt her youngest daughter. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Get email at your own domain with Yahoo! Hi Dee, I believe Bon Aqua got its name from Bon Aqua Springs, which is really close by. I have seen the springs and they still put out a lot of water. There is a pipe coming out of the spring where you can fill your water jugs or canteens or whatever will hold water. And....It's ccccold in the heat of summer. It seems that in 1837 a man named William Locke Weems found Bon Aqua Springs, which is a mineral spring and a mineral resort was built there. The stone dam, spring houses and I think one of the old houses built in the 1880's are still there on the site. Vanessa's mother was born not too far away with a Bon Aqua address. Her great-grandfather, Isaac Nathan DeBusk is buried close by, and a lot of the people around there, the DeBusk, Mathis, Adams, Stuart, Reynolds and other families are kin to her. I hope this helps answer your question about the name of Bon Aqua. Thanks for being part of the ROOTWALKER family.
