    1. [ROOTWALKER] CHISM Bible
    2. Hello CHISM researchers, A gentleman named Phil Rhoton posted this information about a CHISM Bible. If you wish more information, you can contact Phil at: prhoton@bellsouth.net This was forwarded to me off the Monroe Co. Ky. list and Phil has given me his blessing in posting it for the ROOTWALKER family. Thanks, all of you, for being the ROOTWALKER family. Sincerely, Stan Magnesen ROOTWALKER site/list coordinator ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ All, THe following is a copy of transcript located in the Chism Family File at the Filson Club in Louisville. I have reproduced it here exactly as it was typed with the exception of items appearing in brackets which were determined from examining the Old Mulkey Cemetery records or are my own comments. 1. [ROOTWALKER] Where is Portland, TN?
    2. Hello Leslie, If you find Nashville on a map, look due north to the Kentucky state line. Portland touches the Kentucky State line at Hwy.31W and Hwy. 109 Portland is in Sumner County. Gallatin is the county seat for Sumner. Sumner County shares a boundary with Davidson, Rutherford, Wilson, Macon and Trousdale. If you go to the ROOTWALKER web site at: www.rootwalker.com you will find Sumner County on the map of the ROOTWALKER region. It is county number 83. Thanks for being part of the ROOTWALKER family. 1. [ROOTWALKER] Local Libraries
    2. Hello everyone, I visit a lot of libraries. A whole lot of them. One small town library that stands out above most is the Elmer Hinton Memorial Library in Portland, Tennessee. Portland is a small town, as most of you know. But Portland has a library that surpasses many larger towns in the region. No, it doesn't have acres of books that no one uses, but it does have a great staff that is always anxious and able to help whenever I have had questions or difficulties in my research. I am most impressed with the Bailey Room, which is where genealogical information is kept, and the lady that works in there is a delight, even if you don't have any genealogical questions. The library is getting a new microfilm printer, which has already been paid for at a cost of nearly $8,000. After using the worn out printers I have seen in many places, I am more than eager to help break this one in! There are several computers available for your use. I accessed the ROOTWALKER web site on one of them yesterday in about 2 seconds, which is pretty fast. Interlibrary loans are available. Some of the other things useful to researchers are; A fax machine Copier, Computer diskettes for sale, Computer printers, Microfilm, Overhead projector, Newspapers, Tennessee History, Typewriter, Plus lots of other goodies! Now get this.....There is also a Genealogy Club! The address for the Elmer Hinton Memorial Library is: 301 Portland Boulevard, Portland, Tennessee, 37148. You can also reach the library by telephone at: (615) 325-2279 By Fax at: (615-325-7061 By email at: brussel@tsla.lib.tn.us Visit their home page at: www.portlandtn.com/library.htm I hope you get a chance to visit the Portland library, but if you don't get the chance, don't forget to look a little closer at your local library. It may prove to be a gold mine of the information you are looking for. Thanks, everyone, for being the ROOTWALKER family. Sincerely, Stan Magnesen ROOTWALKER site/list coordinator

That's all I remember about them -- never met them -- I just remember they lived out in the country near Greenbrier. Joyce

    1. [ROOTWALKER] Pool/Poole family of Tennessee
    2. Good morning! Just this past Sunday, I was discussing the Poole family of Sumner County with one of that clan. He had discovered that the family first settled in Robertson County, then moved into Sumner County as the family spread out from the original homeplace. With the close proximity to the county line, I think this is a real possibility. Remember, Halltown and New Deal are only about 4-5 miles from the Robertson County line. We hope this is a useful bit of information you can use. Thanks for being part of the ROOTWALKER family. 1. [ROOTWALKER] CURTIS CEMETERY - DEKALB CO., TN
    2. Good morning, I am having lunch today with one of the Melton's from Smithville in DeKalb County. I am going to present this question about the cemetery to him and see if he can answer you on it. Also, I think the state of Tennessee would relocate the graves if they moved a known cemetery. Currently, there are three cemeteries just east of Smithville on Hwy 70. The farthest of the three is the Adcock Cemetery. All three are farther east of Smithville than Curtis Road, which may be the location the cemetery was in. Thanks for being part of the ROOTWALKER family.
