Stan, I would also like a map. If you will send me your snail mail address I will be glad to send you postage money + extra for the envelope along with a printed label with my address. If everyone would send you their printed snail mail label it would save you a lot of time, not having to address the envelopes. Just a thought. Everyone gets these printed labels from all kinds of charities. They do come in handy. Dot P.
Stan They do not come blue lined to me and I have aol. Wonder why? Patsy p.s. Thanks for all your efforts
There are benches outside that you can use. Take a cooler and get your drink from the cooler and a sandwich. Enjoy the weather. Patsy
Don't forget that you can eat at the State Capitol just next door. They have a fairly good variety of veggies as well as burgers and hot-dogs. Hope you have a good visit. The manuscripts are not open on Saturday (I believe I am correct). You might write the archives and ask, then you can plan your time. Happy hunting Patsy
I would like a map....Here is my sanil mail address and just let me know how much and where to send the money. Thanks and this IS the best list. Cheryl Davis-Holman 9239 Wagner Heights Court Stockton, CA 95209 Cis1052@aol.com
Margaret, That's excellent advice to give. We park, get our parking permit, and then walk everywhere also. I have walked all over the place taking care of other things while Vanessa has been researching in the TSLA. Also, one should remember to park only on the left side of the street and in front of or to the right side of the library. If you park in a restricted parking place, you will surely get towed. Thanks for being part of the ROOTWALKER family. Hi Jeanne, No, I haven't had the opportunity to spend a lot of time on the manuscripts. Most of the work we have done involve public records. Let us all know what kinds of goodies you find, so we can all be jealous of you and the time you get to spend browsing. Lots of luck in your research, too! Hi List, History Channel had a mountain man program on today. There was mention of Joseph WALKER b in Tn in 1798 of Scotch Irish descent. He was a trapper in the west, starting in his teens. In 1833, he traveled the route to west that became known as the Humbolt River Route. Excerpts were read from the 1833 trip. Joseph Walker also was a guide and prospected for gold in CA. He died in 1876, 78 years of age at his ranch in Manzanita CA. He was 6'4'' tall, lean and muscular. Thought this might connect with someone on the list. Jeanne
Hi Stan and List, The manuscripts of Montogomery Co are also available on interlibrary loan according to the TSLA website. The list is online, access through TNgenweb site and also TSLA website, I can't remember exactly which one I used to pull up the list. Jeanne P. S. Maybe they have many other manuscripts from other TN rootwalker counties also.
Be sure to go early to get a good parking place at the Archives. The spaces are limited. You can park and then go in and get your placard to go in the window. I never move once I get there. I just walk to wherever I go to eat. Margaret

It has several small ethnic restaurants, particularly a Greek one that we have enjoyed. There is no seating inside most of these restaurants but rather tables outside. Try to eat lunch there early or late to avoid the rush of business people at noon. Sara Binkley Tarpley
Hello everyone, We have a number of new members of the ROOTWALKER family that may not know how to copy-and-paste. This is a very important, timesaving function that is used a lot by many people involved in genealogical research. I have posted this before, but for the benefit of the newer kids on the block, here it is again. ********** If you don't know how to copy-and-paste, here is the way to do it; 1. Click on one side of the item to be copied. Be sure to not include commas, periods, brackets, or quotes that may have been sent to define the beginning and end of the address. 2. While holding your left-clicker down, drag the cursor across the area to be copied. This will highlight the address. (If you are wanting to copy a paragraph, obituary, or a large segment of a page, simply drag your cursor across the page until the top line is highlighted, then while still holding the clicker down, drag the cursor toward the bottom of the area you want to copy-and-paste.) 3. After highlighting the address, press down your "control" (Ctrl) key and hold it down. While holding down the control key, press the letter C. 4. Move your arrow with your mouse to the place you want to put the address and click with the left clicker. (To you AOL users, in this case, would be the white line at the top of the page directly below the icons that say "Print," "My Files," "My AOL," and so on.) 5. After clicking in the space to put what you wish to search for, press down your "Control" key again and hold it down. Then, while holding down the control key, press the letter V. This will copy the address for you. Then, after copying the address, simply click on "Go," or whatever command your ISP provides to allow you to conduct a search. I hope this helps some of you. Sincerely, Stan Magnesen Yelowstone@aol.com
Hello Margaret, Click on the blue letters on the previous email I sent to you and the ROOTWALKER family. That is an AOL hyperlink and should work. I went to the mail after it returned to me from the Rootsweb server, clicked on the hyperlink, and the link did work. If you need to know how to copy-and-paste, I will post that information again for everyone to see. Thanks for being part of the ROOTWALKER family. Hi Jeanne, The Days Inn is a block and a half away from the TSLA on the same street. On the corner by the Days Inn is a sandwich shop that we frequent. They are a little bit pricey, but the food is very good and the people are extremely nice. I have seen some people bring coolers in their cars, then when they want a soda or coffee or snack, they have a tailgate picnic. There aren't any outside tables, but there are a couple of benches to sit on outside the TSLA. You will be in downtown Nashville. There are zillions of places to eat. Try walking around downtown and you will be surprised at what you find. There is no shortage of places to eat or spend a little break time in while doing your research. I find that most people's eyes tire out at about 4 or 5 hours of research. This happens faster when using microfilms. I suggest you have a contingency plan for those days when you find yourself tiring out. Only one block and a half from where you are staying is the TPAC, where you may take in a good play one evening, or go down to 2nd Avenue for a little bit of evening entertainment. I hope this helps answer some of your questions. Thanks for being part of the ROOTWALKER family. Stan, Thanks for the eating tips! I was hoping there would be benches outside. Have you by chance perused the Montogmery Co manuscripts in the TSLA? There are a number from 1894 (I think) on farming, etc. I was hoping they might contain genealogy tidbits also. Lots to find in my 9 days of research. Hope I can keep my wits about me. Maybe I'll put a dent in my COAKLEY brick wall! Jeanne
Hi Sara, Thanks for the Greek restaurant mention. I will try it. Do you have information on an Andy BINKLEY m. to a PARDUE in 1920-30's years? Trying to locate relatives to my grandmother's 1/2 sister. Jeanne
