    1. Re: [ROOTWALKER] ROARK family.
    2. Charles and Jimmie
    3. Stan, Both William Roark and Benjamin Poe of Puncheon Camp Creek Church were Revolutionary War soldiers. William Roark served as a musician in Rolston's Company, 1st North Carolina Regiment, Orange County, NC. If he ever filed for a pension, the National Archives didn't find it when I inquired. William died in 1832. Benjamin Poe said in his application for pension filed at Allen County, KY that he served from both Chatham and Randolph Counties, NC. Benjamin also said that he was born 17 Aug 1749 in Culpepper, VA. The Asa Roarks get confusing. Asa, Sr. (son of William) had a son, Asa, Jr. Asa, Sr. also had a son named Simeon who named a son Asa Walter. (There could be other's that I don't know about.) Asa Walter Roark is the Asa who is buried at Stinson Roark Cemtery in Allen County, KY. Both mine and Melody's husbands are descended from William Roark and Benjamin Poe. Thanks for all your help. Jimmie ----- Original Message ----- From: Yelowstone@aol.com To: TN-ROOTWALKER-L@rootsweb.com Sent: Wednesday, April 25, 2001 9:54 AM Subject: [ROOTWALKER] ROARK family. Hello again, Jimmie, I have, in fact, been to the cemetery in question. It seems that some of the ROARK family were part of the group of people that signed the constitution for the Puncheon Camp Baptist Church. ********** The following is taken from the minutes of the Barren River Association meeting of 1905. "This church, located in the southeastern part of Allen County, Ky., near the state line, on the waters of Puncheon Camp Creek, was organized in the year 1804. The history of the church is very meager. The minutes do not give the date of its constitution. It seems to have been gathered through the labors of Elder Wm. Roark, who came from North Carolina in an early day and entered a large tract of land on Puncheon Camp Creek. There were nine members entered in the constitution of this church. Namely: Elder Wm. Roark, Lewis Pipkins, Dea. Benj. Poe, Lovel Stinson, (?) Taylor, Clerk; Comfort Poe, Clemency Pipkins, Sarah Taylor and Sarah Roark. Elder Wm. Roark gave two acres of land to the church and assisted in building the first house or worship for the church. Elder Asa Roark gave the church two acres of land, making it four in all. A portion of the lands has been set apart as a burying ground..." *********** I have been over this land a number of times and always seem to lose track of exactly where the state line is. Even the road, which often changes at state lines, lies to me. The asphalt changes about 100 yards from the state line. There is a cemetery that is so close to the state line that the local citizens can't make up their mind which state it is in. Consequently, I have found no transcription of it, yet. Also, I don't know the name of it and the graves are very, very old. I think this was possibly near the location of the Puncheon Camp Church. Another of the members of the ROOTWALKER family is researching the Benjamin POE that is listed above. Perhaps the two of you can compare notes and help each other. When I find the time, I will go back to that old cemetery, which is not found on a map, and see if any of the ROARK or POE names are found in it. I have the exact location on our maps of the area, so the location will not be lost. Thanks for being part of the ROOTWALKER family. 2. Good morning Melody! It's a beautiful day! I hope yours is as great. I didn't mention your name, but thought you would see the ROARK posting and speak up. I didn't know if you and Jimmie were in contact or not, but hoped you would make contact with each other. I am strongly suspicious that the old cemetery we found was the cemetery for the Puncheon Camp Baptist Church. If it is, we know the whereabouts of the ROARK homes, as William and Asa both donated land for the church. Also, it appears as if their landholdings possibly straddled the state line. This would explain the confusion about which state a child would be born in. I know of one case where a farm house straddled a county line and the children got to go to either county to school. 1. [ROOTWALKER] Digest and List mode.
    2. Good morning Lea, The digest is a collection of all the mail that has been posted on the ROOTWALKER mail list for a particular span of time. Usually, the Digest will be sent out one time per day, unless the mail volume exceeds the limit that Vanessa has designated as the cut-off. Then, the digest will come out more than one time per day. The digest mail will always duplicate the list mail, but put several of those postings in one email to the recipient. If you are subscribed in both "L" (list) mode and "D" (digest) mode you will receive duplicates of the postings. I hope I have answered your question, which was a good question by the way, to your satisfaction. Thanks for being part of the ROOTWALKER family. 3. Yes, the Roark's did live near the county line of Macon TN/Allen KY. I don't know exactly where the Stinson-Roark Cemetery is located, but believe it's somewhere near Puncheon Creek in Allen County near the Macon County line. I don't know exactly where Asa Walter Roark and wife Sina East Roark lived, but in statements found in Civil War pension application their post office addresses were given variously as: Akersville, KY, Fountain Run, KY and Salt Lick, TN. It could be their post office addresses were changed and they never actually moved. 3. That's the right ones only the first five belong to the James Eddings from a first marriage to Parthenia Brown, The "T" in Octavia's name stands for Tennessee. Elizabeth had 4 sons from her marriage to Thomas Hawkins Harris,I have have info on them the fourth one Sam being my G-father.Martha J. married George Gibbs and they are both buried at Beechland at Logan Co., Harriet Anna married a Robinson (all I know) both of the girls were alive when Sam died in 1947,they were listed as survivors in his obit. Benjamin evidently ended up in Rutherford Co. Tenn. probably on a county work farm, that's about all I can find on him right now, are you connected to this family because I need some help.Debbi Harris Loney Ernest Howell wrote: > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "Ernest Howell" <Eehowell@adelphia.net> > To: <TN-ROOTWALKER-L@rootsweb.com> > Sent: Tuesday, April 24, 2001 1:50 PM > Subject: Re: [ROOTWALKER] FILSON and EDEN > > > I have the following information on a Benjamin Eddinngs born in Logan Co., > > KY in 1876.
