Melody, would you believe it? It's called the EAST Cementary! 9th district map 41 parcel 1.01 rt #5 Lafayette on Long Fork Creek.. A good contact person in Lafayette would be Randy EAST. I believe he is president of macon co historical society. wanda
Hey y'all :) I'm fairly new to the list and have to thank my newly discovered cousin Jeanne for telling me about it. It's a great list and my hat is off to Stan and Vanessa for all their hard work. :)) Both of my fathers parents lines are centered in the Cheatham, Robertson, Sumner and Montgomery county areas, but with a few other Rootwalker counties thrown in just for variety. <grin> The primary surnames that I'm working on now, through his mother are: AVERETT, PARDUE and GUPTON. (Although I must say, I don't have to work too hard on the AVERETT name because Jeanne is ! <grin>). Through my daddys father, the surnames I'm working on are PITT, BAGGETT, PORTER, JONES and COOK . There are lots of others that I plan on concentrating on a little later, but you know how it goes... so many names, so little time. I have some info on all of the names, but I can always use more input. I'll be posting some separate messages with my specific appeals for help. :) I do have a few family artifacts and pics, escpecially for the PARDUE line, and I'd be happy to scan and share them. I live in East TN and if any of y'alls roots extend back that way, I'd be happy to do a few lookups in the McMinn, Polk, Meigs county area. Thanks again and be well, Suzanne Pitt P.S. Stan, you're right. The BAGGETTs are everywhere and they're ALL related !!! AAARRGGGHHHHH !!! <grin>
Is anyone researching the early WARDS of Overton and surrounding counties? I am trying to determine the parents of Hannah Thatcher WARD b. abt 1790 in TN married Joseph (Big Joe) COPELAND 15 Jan 1806 in Overton county, TN. Joseph Copeland was b.1774 in Jefferson county, TN and moved into Overton abt 1800 with his father Stephen Copeland. Thanks in advance. Gether D. Russell
Asbury may be in the old District 4--where Fort Campbell sits now. Probably within a mile of the corner near STewart/Trigg/Mont Co line. It is on some maps that I have. Ida
<< Do you know where your family lived on what is now Fort Campbell? >> I have some deeds so I know the descriptions. They were mostly in the Jordan Springs area. I have some old maps showing the PAYNE, HESTER and BRYANT families living in those parts. I have been to the cemeteries there where family members are buried. We just left Fort Campbell in August. We lived on post, making me the 6th generation of my family to live there!! And, the best thing was meeting some cousins from Stewart Co and Mont. Co. Thanks. Ida
Hi, Wanda, I think it was Jimmie who was looking for this information. I want to thank you for it, also. Jimmie's husband's and my husband's lines touch a number of times, and I often save back information for later use. Did your cemetery book happen to say which cemetery this family was buried in? Our husbands have a common cousin who plans on visiting Macon County this summer. We are "Macon" lists for things for him to do while he's there. Taking cemetery pictures is one of them. Hi List, Suzanne is one of my success stories this year thanks to K Murphy who gave me the lead I needed and Suzanne's posting on the Tn gen web queries. My research plan in Jan was to locate living relatives to my grandmother's brothers and 1/2 sister. My purpose in that research goal was twofold: to reconnect the family's current folks and to locate pictures of the brothers and 1/2 sister. I had talked to all the living relatives I knew, but I knew there were others unknown to me that would have pictures and info. I found: a nephew to grandma, a separate nephew's widow. (by mailing out letters to AVERITT s I found in white pages) I now have picture of one of the brothers to share at our Tn reunion in May. Suzanne who is a greatgrandaughter to 1/2 sister and a grandson to the 1/2 sister by a different child. Suzanne has a photo of him with his father that she is sending him in TX. In a short time we connected in CA, TN and TX. Within 30 minutes of Suzanne and I emailing each other, she scanned a photo of 1/2 sister from 1894! (of course I had to wait for 2 days for her to read my original msg. as she was ill at the time, it was like waiting for a baby.) So, spread that genealogy fertilizer around by mailings and inquires so your family tree can grow!!! Thanks to alll the helpful folks on this list!!! It's a great list and my hat is off to Stan > and Vanessa for all their hard work. :))

Good morning! I have been contacted by a person that is not a member of the ROOTWALKER family who asked if I know where the community of Asbury, in Montgomery County, TN was. Their great-great grandfather had been the postmaster of that small community in the 1840-1850 era. I have checked all the records we have and found nothing about Asbury. The Montgomery County site shows Asbury as an old post office, but I cannot find where it was in the county. There is a community of Asbury in Stewart County on Leatherwood Creek, but that is not the same place. Does anyone have this information that I can pass on to this other person? If you do, I am sure this other person would appreciate it, and so would I. Thanks for being the ROOTWALKER family. Sincerely, Stan Magnesen
Hello Ida, Yes, Bryant Hollow is on the southern side of Montgomery County. I had been told by one of the BRYANT family a year or so ago that most of the BRYANTs in the county were kin, sort of like all of the BAGGETTs being kin. Even before the bridges were put in over the Cumberland it would have been a fairly easy trip for a person going from Bryant Hollow to go to, say, Woodlawn. They would simply have to travel to Palmyra, which is an easy trip, and cross on the ferry there, and go up Palmyra Road and they would be in Woodlawn in no time at all. Or, they could have crossed the river at New York, until the mid-1850's, when the ferry sank and two people drowned. I don't know if they ever put another ferry there or not. This is now called York's Landing. Palmyra road still goes on up into Fort Campbell. Do you know where your family lived on what is now Fort Campbell? Thanks for being part of the ROOTWALKER family. Good morning, Thanks for letting me know that you don't know of those people. When I was in that cemetery, I only wrote down the names of those three people. I often do this to help identify a cemetery, if it has been previously transcribed. Sometimes one or two stones can be missed in a transcription, if the transcriber does not go back and double-check their work, like Vanessa insists we do. This is why I record 3 or more names. The chances of a transcriber missing three are very slim. Thanks for being part of the ROOTWALKER family. Raymond, My William Sutton is the one you mention in the 1880 census. He is listed as widowed. His wife died in 1875. One of his daughters and 3 granddaughters are listed in his household. I have no idea how old Mary Barnes was when they married in 1893. I don't have a membership with Ancestry.com so I can't access the census info that's listed there. Thanks for the names you forwarded. I'll look into them further. Could be also that's a married name for her and she was a widow also. Who knows? Thanks again.
