Hello Kymm, I believe I have discovered some information for you on Mr. Dewey BIRDWELL. Thanks for being part of the ROOTWALKER family. I have that Dewey was born 30 Mar 1899 but I don't have a death date on him...he'd be 102 if still living... I myself don't know how, but I've heard that the CHERRY's tie into my CARNEY's somehow....I'll see if I can get more info on that.. Kymm
yep I feel like a big dork now....driven through there many times going to Chattanooga! I'm just east of Huntsville off of 72... Kymm
Just went to the KY page and I feel I found my great-grandfather in the 1870 Census in Clinton CO, KY. I did know he had been married before and he is listed with a wife and son. The son's name is George and that fits with what I had been told by my Grandmother. There is also a Granville Savage age 7 living with a James Owen family in the 1860 Census. That would make his age off by five years. So not sure about that one. Raymond, In the Overton County Roll Call there is a Robert Henderson SAVAGE born Mar 10, 1896 died July 26, 1968 s/o George and Sarah GORE SAVAGE husband of Pearl MILLER buried in Walnut Grove Cemetery. There are two other Robert's listed: Robert Cato and Robert Jesse SAVAGE. Hope this is who you were looking for. Kymm in Huntsville
Raymond and all, Have you checked out Gary Norris' Overton County Roll Call? I purchased his newest version at the Fentress County Roundup last week. There are three pages of Savage burials. Let me know if I can look anyone up for you.... Also if anyone else needs a look up, I am willing to do these as time permits...just make sure you put Overton Co. I have further info on William Jefferson Hodges if anyone wants it. Just contact me personally. Elsie
I'm sorry to say, Dee, that I don't have any Thomas in my data on the Savages. Good luck and maybe another list member can help you out. Kymm, most of my Savages lived in Overton County. However, you may have run across Claiborn Savage in Clay County. He was my great-grandfather. You are right about descendants of Levin, two-thirds of the Savages in that area seem to be his descendants. Hi Stan, I had a chance to look at a Jackson County Ranger Book Saturday while at TSLA, the index has a Barnes listed on page 37 but in the book at TSLA I couldn't find a page 37. Could you have a look for me and make sure I'm not losing my mind... Thanks, Kymm in Huntsville, AL
Thanks Jeanne, I'll have a look! Kymm in Huntsville

Dee, Were you able to locate Thomas Granville Savage on any census records in KY or Tn? What about 1850 -1860 census indexes for surrounding states? I was told my grandfather was an orphan, fortunately I found he and his brother with their mother on 1880 census. Probably the only record I will find of her, so it is my genealogy "treasure". Good luck in your search, Jeanne
I have quite a few SAVAGE's in Clay County. I have seen these other SAVAGE people in my searching. My cousin Julia (who is a Savage) suspects that these others are descendants of old Levin Savage from Surry County, North Carolina. Might be worth checking out... Kymm in Huntsville
My greatgrandfather was a Thomas Granville Savage born 1849 Albany, KY died 11 Nov 1900. My grandmother and great grandmother said he was an orphan and knew nothing of his family. Would any you searching the name Savage have him in your records.
