No, I live in FL but I will be in Henry Co. this summer. I subscribe to the Henry Co. mail list. My great great aunt Webb Woods and her husband John Woods were in Henry Co. during the 1850 Census and my gg grandfather was then 20 and was living with them. Two years later he married Susan Adaline Halstead in Henry Co.TN. About 1853/1854 both families migrated to Ballard Co. KY. near the Hickman Co. KY line. This area of Ballard Co. later (1886) became Carlisle Co. KY. and 4 generations of Webbs are buried there. I go back every summer to spend a few months. Paris TN is about 90 miles from my home town of Arlington KY. We will be stopping in Rutherford and Franklin Co.s in May on the 15 and. It was quite a thrill to find my ggg grandmother's grave site a couple of years ago in the Mt Pleasant Cemetery. We went to her home place in Feb this year in Union Co. SC. We found a town in SC named after her nephew John Gill Landrum. We stopped at the local news paper in Landrum SC and met the owner (91) and he spent the day with us showing me a lot of grave sites and even sold me a book he had written about "Who and Why of Landrum SC., 29356". He had written 7 books. The wife and I enjoyed the trip very much. We did some good Genealogy work in Union Co. SC at the local library in the town of Union SC. We found several grave sites at the Padgett's Creek Baptist Church Cemetery for the Ray's. Martha Patsy Landrum's mother was Mary Ray a sister to the famous preacher Tommy Ray. The Landrum family is well documented in the book " The Life and Times of John Gill Landrum" which was written by H. P. Griffith and published by Cooper-Limestone Institute on March 14, 1885. I still am unable to trace down John Webb's family from the first documentation in Williamson Co. TN. when he married Martha Patsy Landrum in 1811. My resent finds on the children will, I hope, lead me to determine where John Webb came from if I can follow their lives to the 1880 census where they tell the birth state of their parents. Rebecca Webb Woods stated in the 1880 Ballard Co.KY Census that her father was born in KY and her mother in SC. Her brother my gg grandfather Lewis E. Webb stated in the same Census for Hickman Co. KY that his mother and father were both born in TN. We now know that Rebecca was right about her mother's birth state. Rebecca was 11 years older than Lewis. Lewis was only 4 or 5 when his father died and only 12 when his mother died. I am betting that Rebecca was right about her father's birth state. Last August I attended a Webb Family Reunion in Jasper TN (their 27th) and found out that 4 brothers from VA. went to KY and then turned south into middle TN. One of the brothers had a John Webb about the right age born between 1781 and 1790 per the 1830 Rutherford Co.TN Census. This family of Webb's settled near Bolingreen, KY. I will do some research there this summer if time permits. It is possible that John followed his uncle's into middle TN around 1806. A John Webb shows up in the Williamson Co. Poll Tax about then. This is also about the time that Merriman Landrum, his wife Delilah Jackson, his sisters and two of his brothers settled in Williamson Co. TN. I did not find where my John Webb bought land until 1811, the year he got married to Martha Patsy Landrum. I am constantly pursuing genealogy. My wife's people were found in Co and Henry Co. Tn during the 1830-1860 time frame. If you can find census data for both Benjamin and James Housden/Houston/Housdon during this time period I would appreciate it. I am sorry for typing so much for you but it is good for me to get so detailed to summarize where I am and what I should do next. Thanks again, Sam and Linda Housden Webb ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Wednesday, April 10, 2002 9:59 PM Subject: Re: [ROOTWALKER] Re John Webb > Do you live in Henry Co. Hi My name is Sam Webb and my ggg grandfather is John Webb. He is also my brickwall. I cannot find where John Webb came from or what his mother's or father's name was. I found John Webb and his wife Martha in the Bedford Co. TN Enon Baptist Church Meeting Minutes in June of 1829. I found where he married Martha Patsy Landrum on Jan 15, 1811 in Williamson Co. TN. John died in 1834/1835 while living in either Bedford, Rutherford or Williamson Cos. TN. An old Family Bible stated John died in Indiana while on a hunting trip? I also found where John Webb gave his brother-in-law Merrimon Landrum. Power of Attorney (POA) on July 1, 1811 in Rutherford Co. TN to settle his wife's inheritanced from her father's Reuben Landrum's estate in Union County SC. I visited that area this year in Feb.and found the Father's Will and John Webb's name was mentioned but no middle initial. I have Martha's family back to Scotland and her mother's family Ray back almost as far, but I can't find John Webb's roots. Martha died on Feb 11, 1842 leaving several minor children. She is buried in Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church near Rockvale TN. I have the marriage records for the Webb's and the Landrums in the Early Middle TN Marriages . I was able to determine that Anjline/Angeline Webb was living with her uncle, Rev. John Landrum in the 1850 Williamson Co. TN Census. I found where an Elizabeth Webb married a Benjamine Halstead in Williamson Co. TN in 1837. My gg grandfather Lewis E. Webb married Susan Adaline Halstead from that same family in Henry Co. TN on Sept 16, 1852. I found a Mary Webb marrying David C. Little in Williamson Co. TN on July 12, 1835. I found RebeccaWebb marrying John Woods on June 29, 1845 in Rutherford Co. TN. I found a John F. Webb married to a Sarah C. Landrom/Landrum Feb 12, 1844 in Rutherford Co. TN. This could possibly be a John F. Webb Jr. I found a Nancy E. Webb married to a William Hailey on Nov. 25, 1853 in Rutherford Co. TN. Rebecca Webb Woods above, later had a daughter she named Nancy Ellen Woods. Nancy Woods' twin brother was named Lewis E. Woods after my gg grandfather Lewis E. Webb. I suspect the Nanch E. Webb that married the Wm Hailey was a d/o my John Webb. I found a Emaline Webb marrying a Simpson Putnam/Putnamn on Jan 22, 1845 in Rutherford Co. TN. There are Putnam's buried in the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery where Martha Webb is buried. I have several other candidate children but not enough info yet to establish a strong tie to the John and Martha Webb's family. I found by working the 1820,1830, 1840, 1850, 1860 Census for Webbs some clues for the subquent children but need more Census Data. Mainly 1870, 1880 and 1890?/1900 for the Webbs in the three counties of Bedford, Rutherford and Williamson and 1850- 1900 Census data for the Landum's in these same three counties. Any help you could give me would be very much appreciated. Please do keep the Hartman name in your files. Thanks. You do good work!!!! Margaret
Good morning Margaret, Minnie HARTMAN is the only member of the HARTMAN family that we have any information on at this time. If you would like me to, I'll put the HARTMAN name on our list of "Names To Keep An Eye Out For" for Houston County, Tennessee. Thanks for being part of the ROOTWALKER family.
