Stan, Again, thank you. Jackson Co TN ancestors Dicus/Dycus, Sweazea and McCarver. Hannah & McMillen . Edward Dicus/Dycus, Larkin Sweazea & Logan McCarver , married the daughters of Samuel and Mary (McMillen) Hannah in Jackson Co. TN. It is believed that all of these families lived in or near Morgan District Rutherford Co., NC before moving to Montgomery and Jackson Co., TN, arriving in Jackson by the years between 1800 and 1810. Samuel Hannah is found in a Jackson County Tax list either in 1810 or 1812. Samuel Hannah's Will was destroyed in a courthouse fire , but it was litigated for several years and was found in : Book : "Jackson County Tennessee Chancery Court Minutes 1840-1861" Abstracted, Transcribed, annotated, and indexed by Betty Huff." A Bible record was found in the book: "Tennessee Records" "Bible Records and Marriage Bonds" compiled by Jeannette Tillotson Acklen, Clearfield Publishing. Page 61, Bible Record: Samuel Hannah Bible in possession of great -grand-daughter, Jennie Charlton Foster ( Mrs. John Stephen Foster), Lebanon, Tennessee. My Query to Tennessee State Library & Archives on Samuel Hannah's Estate and Will & reply from them quote: "The big problem here is that almost all of the pre-1872 Jackson County records have been destroyed. The following URLs will give you an idea of the types of records in our collection, and what we have available for Jackson County: " I checked the book "Tennessee Wills and Administrations", which lists all pre-1861 wills on record in Tennessee. I checked the index for HANNAH and its alternate spellings and did find the following listings: HANNA, Samuel 1834 Maury County, wb-x-255 HANNA, Samuel W. 1846 Rutherford County, rb-13-465" Also to TSLA: Subject: Re: search TN marriages before 1861: I did not find the marriage of these two people in "Early Middle Tennessee Marriages," "Early East Tennessee Marriages," or "Early West Tennessee Marriages." Please keep in mind that the earliest marriage records to survive from Jackson County are from 1872 due to a court house fire in that year. Yours truly, Kassie Hassler, Librarian III This was found on Jackson Co., Genweb: Petitioners for Reduction of Constitutional Limits of Jackson County, TN-1806 The Prayer of your Humble petitioners showeth that they Labour under many inconveniences by not having their County (to Wit Jackson) reduced to its Constitutional limits and their seat of Justice permanently fixed, relying on your clemency we hope your Honorable body will pass a Law to that affect and fix our seat of Justice at Fort Blount. And your Petitioners in duty bound will ever pray on. Jackson County, 8th July 1806. Among others signers was: Sam'l Hannah. Descendants of Samuel Hannah Generation No. 1 1. Hi Denise, Those letters could mean any number of things from counties other than Wilson Co. in TN to who knows--even initials of the one who married them. The only one who could tell you that for sure would be the folks you got the marriage dates from, because they know what book or original papers they gave you the information from. Hope this helps! : ) Vanessa Slea ROOTWALKER Site/List Owner In a message dated 8/2/2002 9:38:09 PM Central Daylight Time, [email protected] writes: > I am assuming the initials in parentheses are the counties? Does anyone have the names of the spouse and children of Martin TALLEY of Wilson Co. who died in Cannon Co. at the age of 106? Bill Allen <[email protected]>
In reply to Jan about the Ryves. I have the history on some Rives that came from NC about 8 generations ago. They were French and migrated to England and there the name changed from rYven to rIves. all the other variations are from the original spelling of RYVES. If I can help let me know.
